The Moon hung high in the night sky, putting a silver glow on the huge property of the palace. Cassie raced the marble floor, her heart. It was about a week when Daisy started going more often, and tension between them was clear.

Daisy had gotten jealous of the trio's friendship. She secretly wished that was her instead of Cassie.

She had seen Lark becoming more free with Cassie which angered her more especially how he doesn't speak more than three words to her

Daisy's laughter echoed in the hall, a sound that once brought Joy, now felt like a taunt.

"Is it not cute tonight?" Daisy had earlier said, her long hair was flickering like silk, turning his voice into the courtyard. "The stars are almost beautiful like the palace!"

Cassie looked at the shadow, cutting her lips. The way Daisy bowed into twins, Lark and Mark ignited an acquaintance of jealousy within her.

"Beware of Daisy," Lark warned her, his eyebrows were surrounded with anxiety. "She is not just here for you. I can feel it."

Cassie rolled her eyes, brushing off Lark's warning.

"Oh, let's, Lark. She is just a friend. Also, I can handle myself."

"Can you do it?" Mark snatched his voice low and severely. "She is very keen to be around you recently. It's uncertain."

"Maybe she just likes my company,” Cassie replied.

The twins exchanged a look, and how it felt that a wave of negligence was washing it on her.

"Look, I'm fine," she said, crossing his arms.

"There is something more important I wanted to discuss with you two," her tone had gotten real serious.

"What if your parents' deaths were not natural? Probably still, what if they are still alive?"

Cassie had been looking into their family after the story Mark told her.

It wasn't easy to kill werewolves, talk more of the twins father who was a skilled and wise wolf.

The expression of Lark moved to anxiety. "You can't believe this seriously. What are the proofs you have?"

Cassie stepped closer, his voice fell to a whisper. "Their bodies were never found, wolves don't just disappear,"

Mark and Lark were silent for a while. She was right. But would it be possible to find their parents or their killer after 13 years

“So…,” Lark hinted for her to continue.

"Is there a person or a place you had a suspicion, we should start from there,”

"I had a bad feeling about Greyer Forest. There is something about it." Mark mentioned.

He remembered his relatives forbidding him and his brother from going there.

Cassie felt that there was a cold under her spine. "What do you mean?"

"Just ... the feeling of eternal," Lark replied, his eyes getting dark. "It seems that the forest is hiding something."

As soon as the words left his mouth, he felt a wave washing over him. He pressed one hand on his forehead, the world bowed down a bit.

“Let's take a stroll to the Greyer forest," Cassie announced, her paws moving swiftly.

“Hold on," Lark called out but she was already far gone.

The twins Alpha raced towards her. They all collided at a big oak tree that signified the beginning of the forest.

They moved round the forest, their furs brushing through the rustling leaves.

Cassie felt a kick in her stomach, she was feeling really nauseous and weak.

Her paws gripped to the back of a tree to avoid falling.

"Cass, are you okay?" Mark's voice broke through the mist.

"Yes, just feel a little weak," she said, waving them.

"I will go to see the Wolf doctor tomorrow on the outskirts of the pack. This is nothing."

"Take your health seriously," Mark insisted, saying, his voice is with anxiety. "We can go with you."

"No," she responded strongly, shaking his head. "I can handle it alone. Both of you should return to the palace. It is not good to stay out for a very long time."

Lortlessly, they nodded, his eyes still filled with anxiety.

The next day, the direction to the wolf doctor changed into covered with timber that whispered secrets within the wind. Cassie walked quickly, each step a reminder of her vulnerability. She ought to sense the load of the wooded area’s shadows pressing in, igniting an experience of dread that gnawed at her insides.

She had a cloak covering her up. Her face was barely visible. She had left the palace before the sun broke dawn.

The wolf doctor’s cottage seemed like a beacon of wish, the old fashioned construction surrounded by wildflowers that danced within the breeze. Cassie pushed the door open, the bell above tinkling softly.

“Ah, What brings you here?” the doctor requested, her voice heat and alluring.

“Just feeling unwell,” Cassie spoke back, forcing a grin. “Thought I ought to get checked out.”

The doctor nodded, motioning for her to take a seat. “Let’s see what’s taking place.”

Hours later, after a series of exams and questions, the physician came back, her forehead furrowed.

“Ma'am,” she began, her tone moving. “I even have some news.”

Cassie’s coronary heart raced. “What is it?”

“You’re pregnant.”

The word hung in the air, a heavy weight that crashed down on her. “What? That can’t be right.”

The physician gestured for Cassie to sit down once more, her expression serious. “I’m afraid it is. I can run greater checks in case you’d like, however the consequences are clean.”

Cassie’s thoughts raced, thoughts colliding in a chaotic hurricane. How could this happen?

“It couldn't be him right?"

She knew deep down who the father was but she rejected the idea.

Her cruel fate had caught up with her again.

How would Mark and Lark reacted to the news

Their Luna was carrying some other Alpha's baby.

“No…no,” she shook her head violently. Her world was collapsing.

“Ma'am," the wolf doctor’s voice called out, reaching her spiraling mind. “Are you okay?”

“No,” she whispered, her palms trembling. “I need to run”

The health practitioner’s eyes widened. “ Ma'am Wait—”

But Cassie came out the door, panic fueling her steps as she fled into the forest. The timber loomed over her like silent sentinels, their branches clawing on the sky. She stumbled, breathless, the load of the revelation pressing down on her.

She was running, to nowhere in particular. Maybe out of her cruel fate.

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 100

Lark's POVMy hand was shaking when I woke up.Not violently. Just enough to be noticed when I reached for the water jug on the bedside table and I had to use both hands to keep it steady. I set it down carefully and sat on the edge of the bed for a moment in the grey morning light, willing it to stop.It stopped eventually. It always stopped eventually. That was the part I held onto. It always passed. The shaking, the dizziness, the pressure that gathered behind my eyes some mornings was like something pushing from the inside out. It came, and it went, and I functioned in between and nobody had to know.Cassie was still sleeping. I watched her for a moment before I stood up. She looked younger when she slept. She'd been watching me since we left Vale Pack. I knew she had. I could feel it, those small sideways glances she thought I didn't catch. .I got dressed quietly and left before she woke up.Mark found me in the courtyard before I'd even had a chance to settle back into the

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 99

Cassie's POVWe left Vale Pack just after sunrise.Jamie stood at the gates to see us off. He looked better than he had when we arrived. Still not fully himself, but the fog was gone from his eyes. He stood straight for the first time since we'd gotten there. He looked at me for a long moment before I mounted the horse. There was so much sitting in that appearance. Years of it. Things that probably deserved to be said out loud and never would be.A lot is better left unsaid."Thank you," he said finally."Take care of yourself," I told him. That was all.I took the reins, steadying myself. A gentle squeeze of my legs set it moving.I didn't look back. The ride home was quiet.Lark set the pace. Steady and unhurried, moving through the tree line where the morning light came through in broken pieces. I rode beside him without talking. I didn't have much to say, and he seemed to feel the same way.I was too busy watching him when he wasn't looking. It started with his hand. The one hold

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 98

Cassie's POVI didn't sit.Neither did she, after a moment. She had realized that sitting across from me like two people having tea wasn't going to work. She stood by the window instead, arms loose at her sides, looking out at the Vale Pack grounds like she owned them.Maybe she thought she did.I stayed near the door. Not blocking it. Just close enough that I knew exactly how many steps it would take to reach it if I needed to move fast. Old habit. The kind you develop when you've had to run before. The silence stretched.I wasn't going to fill it. That was her job. She called this meeting. She turned from the window eventually. Looked at me the way you look at something you've been thinking about for a long time and are finally seeing up close."You look like her," she said. "Our mother. Around the eyes."Our mother? What on heck is she trying to do? I said nothing. She smiled slightly. Like my silence was the answer she expected. "You didn't know her long enough to remember t

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 97

Cassie's POVI literally froze to the spot. My expression must have given her pleasure. The smile on her face was evident as she strode.Nobody moved. The shock rooted our feet to the floor. The room had gone the kind of still that happens when something impossible walks through a door and everyone present has to decide at the same time whether their eyes are lying to them.Jamie saw her first.Or maybe he'd heard her voice before I turned around. Either way when I looked at him his face had gone completely white. The cup in his hands tilted without him noticing. The warm liquid spilled over his fingers and he didn't feel it."Alexa." Her name came out of him like something he'd been carrying for a long time and had no idea how to put down. She looked at him briefly. Something moved across her face. Quick and complicated and gone before I could name it."Jamie," she said simply. That was all. Just his name. Like an acknowledgment. Like checking a box.He stared at her. His newly cle

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 96

Cassie's PovCord shifted the linen in his arms.He had the look of a man who wasn't sure if he was in trouble or not. That careful stillness people get when a Luna stops them in a corridor and looks at them the way I was looking at him."Is everything alright?" he asked."I just need to ask you something," I said. "Walk with me."He fell into step beside us without arguing. That was the thing about betas. Obedience was built into them the same way loyalty was. He didn't ask where we were going or why. He just followed me.I kept my pace easy. Unhurried. I didn't want him defensive."How long have you been Jamie's beta?" I asked."Six years," he said."So you were here when Alexa was."A slight pause. "Yes.""Were you close to her?"Another pause. Longer this time. "She was my Alpha's mate. I respected her the way you respect someone in that position." He chose his words carefully. "We weren't close."I nodded like that was all I needed. Let a few seconds pass."Jamie asked you to h

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 95

Cassie's POVI didn't sleep well that night.Vale Pack gave us quarters in the east wing. Clean rooms, good beds, everything a visiting Luna and her Alphas were entitled to. The staff assigned to us was quiet and careful not to look at me too long.A young lowly omega. Our room was guarded by two guards, plus the ones that followed us from our pack.Their hospitality was amicable.I lay on my back in the dark staring at the ceiling. The ring was out there somewhere in this pack. I could feel it the way you feel a storm coming before the clouds arrive. Lark's voice came quietly from beside me. "You're thinking aloud.""Ohh, I'm sorry.""Don't be." He paused and then sat erect. "What is it?"I breathe out."The curse feels too alive," I said. "Too fresh. Someone is still feeding it from somewhere inside this pack,” I turned to look at him in the dark. “Which curse?” He looked utterly confused. He wasn't a healer , so he was oblivious of what I was talking about, as well as everyone

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 25

The aroma of pine and smoke interwove the air as Cassie moved beyond the border stones, her heart beating to each step in a slow, fearful rhythm. She'd worn a hooded cloak dyed the shade of twilight storm, the fabric hugging her like a second skin. Underneath, the beat of her pulse had been louder

The war room, once a sanctuary of peace, had become a battlefield.Mark stood behind the great oak table, its surface littered with maps, scout reports, and half-empty mugs of bitterroot tea. Lark stood by the stone hearth, arms folded, eyes blazing with pent-up rage.Neither one of them spoke. The

The wind howled at the cabin, crashing its eaves with grasping fingers. The fire spat and hissed upon the hearth, casting weak shadows on the wood walls. It was a hunter's cabin, abandoned to age and overgrown in the upper pines of the Northern Ridge. Now it was Cassie's captivity.Kael strode like

  • Rejected But Elevated    Chapter 22

The whispers began in the morning haze. Whispered, uncertain. By noon, there was thunder.Luna was lost. She had disappeared from the palace.By evening, the whole world churned with it.Cassie leapt upon a mossy rock outcropping high in the mountains, gazing out across the world she had known. Smo
