LOGINCassie Jones POV
I didn’t expect to be surrounded by a bunch of rogue wolves, I carefully shifted backwards trying to make a run without them knowing. My wolf was badly wounded last week after fighting with the last set of rogue wolves so attempting to fight with this group would be a death sentence. I turned around sharply running as fast as I could but I was already starved for a long time and didn’t have the strength. I stepped on a tree twig making me trip and fall, twisting my ankle. I winced out in pain, my wolf was numb, it wasn’t responding to me so I couldn’t shift. I looked up and met with a pair of two red eyes staring at me, it was ready to pounce and devour me. As I closed my eyes in anticipation, I didn’t feel anything and opened it back to see two big black wolves fighting with it. The rogue wolf dropped dead and the two wolves shifted back into their human form. I was stunned, staring at them. One has short dark hair with a strand that fell towards his eyes making him look seductive with his blue eyes plum lips. The other with long dark hair, he packed half up and left the rest down and his eyes were deep green. I couldn’t take my eyes off them and didn’t realize I was drooling over them. “Are you done drooling?” The first asked, I looked down in embarrassment but soon stared back at them. “Sorry, my bad.” I cleared my throat. “Thanks for saving me.” I said softly as I tried to stand up, I balanced myself barely standing as my twisted ankle hurt but they seemed to care less about it. “Do you know how to get to the Greyer pack?” The other guy asked, ignoring my words just now. He was unusually cold and didn't look homecoming. “Yea, just… hold on a sec.” I took out the map with me, that was the only thing I was able to keep with me after all the ruffles. I showed them the description to the pack and after a while, they got it right. Just as I bade them goodbye and was about turning back. I felt the same electric pull from earlier come back, this time stronger as a strawberry scent smells in my nose, I closed my eyes loving the scent. My wolf, Gina, who has been quiet for a long time, woke up. I could feel the joy in her as she proclaimed, “They are ours.” I looked up to the two wolf men in shock. They seemed to have felt the pull as they came closer, each fanning over me looking like they’ll mark me immediately. “She’s the one, Mark.” The first guy said again to the second guy that I assumed to be Mark, he sniffed in my scent. I felt myself dripping wet just from their scent. Shit! I need to control myself. I almost had another night stand with two strangers I barely knew. I drew back from them with all my strength and after realizing what was happening, they also calmed themselves down. “It isn’t possible.” We all said at the same time, I raised my brow at them confused at their words, they both walked a bit far away from me. I noticed my ankle had healed up, “Nice showing up after finding our mate.” I said in my mind. I didn’t want to believe it was possible I could find another mate after getting rejected by Jamie. And this fast, even more ridiculous to be mated to two guys. They both walked back to me, “We were thinking, if you had nowhere to go, would you like to follow us back to our pack.” The first guy said. “You guys are alphas?” I was surprised, I originally thought maybe their wolves were just big but I couldn’t have thought they might be alphas. “Yes. Alphas of Emerald pack.” My jaw dropped in shock. At first I fell into silence. Being their mate; if I follow them back to their pack, they would possibly crown me as their Luna and I could carry out my revenge on Jamie for betraying me. It wasn’t such a bad idea to follow them back to their pack. “We aren’t going to force you.” “You are our mate, we accept your bond, and you are ours now. Following us is ensuring you have the life you are supposed to have.” The second guy, Mark said. “I’m Lark, and he’s Mark, we are the twin alphas of the Emerald pack.” Thinking down at their pack name, it felt familiar to me. Yes, I remember. A strong and powerful pack led by two mysterious twin alpha, everyone fears them and if you have them as an ally then your pack would be one of the strongest packs. “Of course I’ll be delighted to follow you both, I’m Cassie. Cassie Jones.” I greeted them cheerfully. “Grab your belongings so we can be one our way now.” Mark replied back yet again ignoring my words and he walked ahead. Since I had nothing to take, I just followed behind him with Lark who was walking slowly to meet up with my pace. “Thanks.” I smiled at him. “You are welcome.” “You know Mark isn’t always all cold or acting tough like he does but he’s soft. He just needed someone to control his emotions.” I think I saw that already, maybe he wasn’t as bad as I’m viewing him. “Maybe you are right, time will tell that.” ***** It’s been a while we’ve been walking and now I can feel the presence of wolves, like we are now in another pack territory. Finally I am out of the forest. Just as we got to the border, the bodyguards there bowed for the two to enter but when they saw me. They hesitated. “Let her in.” Lark said. They bowed and cleared the way for me. Gossips were flowing as we walked deeper into the pack as each person we passed by were whispering. “Am I sure it’s okay or I’m just the one feeling insecure right now.” I thought. There were some people who had the look of disgust due to my rough appearance, I felt uncomfortable seeing how they were staring at me. As if they noticed my inconvenience, Lark stopped while Mark howled a bit. Thus called the attention of everyone in the pack. I noticed we were already at the middle of the pack square, their statue was there stating their positions. I noticed everyone was staring at me like I had done something, I stared up at Lark and noticed they just said something which made the people stare at me. “Everyone should treat her well and care for her like she is a member of our pack which she already is.” I wasn’t expecting them to go this far so immediately we entered the pack which made me smile gently. “For she’ll be your next Luna.” Mark said, breaking the silence as everywhere erupted with noises and cheers. The ones staring at me with the look of disgust had already been replaced with joys. “She’s our mate, and anyone who disrespect her or insult her stand would be beheaded. It’s a crime punished by law.” I gasped. I gently whispered to Lark, “Wouldn’t that be too much?” I said, nodding his head negatively. “No way.” “You can’t just make her Luna.” I heard a voice from behind. It was a displeasure from the person. Everyone gasped, I turned back to look at the person who said that and my eyes widened in shock. How come she is here? Daisy?Lark's POVMy hand was shaking when I woke up.Not violently. Just enough to be noticed when I reached for the water jug on the bedside table and I had to use both hands to keep it steady. I set it down carefully and sat on the edge of the bed for a moment in the grey morning light, willing it to stop.It stopped eventually. It always stopped eventually. That was the part I held onto. It always passed. The shaking, the dizziness, the pressure that gathered behind my eyes some mornings was like something pushing from the inside out. It came, and it went, and I functioned in between and nobody had to know.Cassie was still sleeping. I watched her for a moment before I stood up. She looked younger when she slept. She'd been watching me since we left Vale Pack. I knew she had. I could feel it, those small sideways glances she thought I didn't catch. .I got dressed quietly and left before she woke up.Mark found me in the courtyard before I'd even had a chance to settle back into the
Cassie's POVWe left Vale Pack just after sunrise.Jamie stood at the gates to see us off. He looked better than he had when we arrived. Still not fully himself, but the fog was gone from his eyes. He stood straight for the first time since we'd gotten there. He looked at me for a long moment before I mounted the horse. There was so much sitting in that appearance. Years of it. Things that probably deserved to be said out loud and never would be.A lot is better left unsaid."Thank you," he said finally."Take care of yourself," I told him. That was all.I took the reins, steadying myself. A gentle squeeze of my legs set it moving.I didn't look back. The ride home was quiet.Lark set the pace. Steady and unhurried, moving through the tree line where the morning light came through in broken pieces. I rode beside him without talking. I didn't have much to say, and he seemed to feel the same way.I was too busy watching him when he wasn't looking. It started with his hand. The one hold
Cassie's POVI didn't sit.Neither did she, after a moment. She had realized that sitting across from me like two people having tea wasn't going to work. She stood by the window instead, arms loose at her sides, looking out at the Vale Pack grounds like she owned them.Maybe she thought she did.I stayed near the door. Not blocking it. Just close enough that I knew exactly how many steps it would take to reach it if I needed to move fast. Old habit. The kind you develop when you've had to run before. The silence stretched.I wasn't going to fill it. That was her job. She called this meeting. She turned from the window eventually. Looked at me the way you look at something you've been thinking about for a long time and are finally seeing up close."You look like her," she said. "Our mother. Around the eyes."Our mother? What on heck is she trying to do? I said nothing. She smiled slightly. Like my silence was the answer she expected. "You didn't know her long enough to remember t
Cassie's POVI literally froze to the spot. My expression must have given her pleasure. The smile on her face was evident as she strode.Nobody moved. The shock rooted our feet to the floor. The room had gone the kind of still that happens when something impossible walks through a door and everyone present has to decide at the same time whether their eyes are lying to them.Jamie saw her first.Or maybe he'd heard her voice before I turned around. Either way when I looked at him his face had gone completely white. The cup in his hands tilted without him noticing. The warm liquid spilled over his fingers and he didn't feel it."Alexa." Her name came out of him like something he'd been carrying for a long time and had no idea how to put down. She looked at him briefly. Something moved across her face. Quick and complicated and gone before I could name it."Jamie," she said simply. That was all. Just his name. Like an acknowledgment. Like checking a box.He stared at her. His newly cle
Cassie's PovCord shifted the linen in his arms.He had the look of a man who wasn't sure if he was in trouble or not. That careful stillness people get when a Luna stops them in a corridor and looks at them the way I was looking at him."Is everything alright?" he asked."I just need to ask you something," I said. "Walk with me."He fell into step beside us without arguing. That was the thing about betas. Obedience was built into them the same way loyalty was. He didn't ask where we were going or why. He just followed me.I kept my pace easy. Unhurried. I didn't want him defensive."How long have you been Jamie's beta?" I asked."Six years," he said."So you were here when Alexa was."A slight pause. "Yes.""Were you close to her?"Another pause. Longer this time. "She was my Alpha's mate. I respected her the way you respect someone in that position." He chose his words carefully. "We weren't close."I nodded like that was all I needed. Let a few seconds pass."Jamie asked you to h
Cassie's POVI didn't sleep well that night.Vale Pack gave us quarters in the east wing. Clean rooms, good beds, everything a visiting Luna and her Alphas were entitled to. The staff assigned to us was quiet and careful not to look at me too long.A young lowly omega. Our room was guarded by two guards, plus the ones that followed us from our pack.Their hospitality was amicable.I lay on my back in the dark staring at the ceiling. The ring was out there somewhere in this pack. I could feel it the way you feel a storm coming before the clouds arrive. Lark's voice came quietly from beside me. "You're thinking aloud.""Ohh, I'm sorry.""Don't be." He paused and then sat erect. "What is it?"I breathe out."The curse feels too alive," I said. "Too fresh. Someone is still feeding it from somewhere inside this pack,” I turned to look at him in the dark. “Which curse?” He looked utterly confused. He wasn't a healer , so he was oblivious of what I was talking about, as well as everyone
Cassie stood outside the council hall, her arms crossed tightly over her chest, the early morning mist clinging to her cloak. Behind the heavy oak doors, the council waited. Mark, Lark, Elder Rami were discussing in hushed tones. The rest of the half the palace with ears pressed to the walls. The
The wolves were howling again. Daisy ran. Rain lashed her face as she tore through the frost-coated forest, heart pounding in her chest. Twigs snapped under her boots, and somewhere in the distance, a horn sounded low and haunting. They were questioning Mira again. She didn’t need confirmation.
Lark’s POV The scent was off. I had only meant to pass through the hall, but the moment I neared the tray on the table outside Mark’s chambers, something stopped me. The tea was still steaming, untouched. A single porcelain cup, dark liquid swirling faintly inside. I leaned in. It wasn’t the us
Lark’s POV The council room reeked of tension. I hadn’t even sat down before Mark slammed his palm against the old oak table. “She deserves to be crowned,” The words cracked through the room like thunder. Conversations died mid-sentence. Every elder turned to him as if he’d just suggested crown
