Chapter Eighteen

THE SILVER WOLF AWAKENS (2)

Before I could explain to him, the royal army blew a horn and their soldiers started attacking again.

Magnus stood up immediately, “I’ll deal with them”.

“No”, I stood up too and held his hand back.

He withdrew his hand and held my shoulder “I’m strong enough to still fight them. You don’t know how to control your power yet”.

“Then teach me”, I muttered while my gaze still lingered on him.

We stared at each other for a minute without uttering a word and he whispered “stay behind me”.

I shook my head, “not anymore”.

He clenched his jaw tightly and yelled, “Lyra, I said stay behind me”.

I responded immediately, “I won’t, Magnus. All my entire life I’ve been hiding behind everyone and I won’t do that anymore”.

He exhaled deeply and walked close to me “it’s fine, stay close to me”.

The soldiers rushed towards us and one of them even threw his sword at me. I raised my hand instinctively and the sword broke into pieces before it could get to me.

The soldier was startled and he froze, while he stared at his broken sword. Another soldier tried to attack and I moved without even thinking as my body became very fast.

I grabbed the soldier’s wrist and flung him across the battlefield. Another one came to attack me from behind, but Magnus killed him before he even reached me.

We stood back to back on the battlefield, and for the first time I wasn’t scared of anything because the battlefield felt different.

I could see and hear every movement the soldier made, even where they hid to attack from.

“You’re sensing them right?” Magnus asked.

I nodded “I can even hear them”.

Magnus turned to look at me and his brows furrowed “that’s not possible”.

“I’m full of surprises apparently”, I smiled weakly, and he faked a smile too.

“She’s the heir”, one of the royal soldiers shouted.

The small smile on my lips vanished instantly, and another soldier asked “the heir to what?”

“The old Moonfang bloodline”, the soldier yelled.

My breath hitched immediately and Magnus turned towards him “how do you know about that?”

The soldier looked so frightened and he tried to run, but Magnus caught him. 

He held him by the throat and lifted him from the ground, his legs were swinging in the air.

“Answer me now”, Magnus commanded.

The soldier struggled to release Magnus' grip from his neck but he couldn’t and he started coughing.

“I said speak up”, Magnus tightened his grip around his neck the more.

“Her mother”, he struggled to speak.

My heart dropped and I narrowed my eyes towards the soldier Magnus held.

“What about her mother?” Magnus pressed further while he still held his neck tightly.

The soldier started coughing “her mother was the true queen”.

Magnus' eyes darkened and I walked closer to him, “what did you just say?”

The soldier looked at me and repeated, “your mother was the true heir of the Moonfang kingdom”.

A chill creeped into my body and I froze for a moment before I whispered “no, that’s impossible”.

He continued, “I know you won’t believe me. The king killed her family”.

I turned to look at Magnus, and his expression was dreadful “why?”

He coughed again before he continued “because of the prophecy”.

“What prophecy?” I demanded.

The soldier’s eyes met with the royal commander’s own and fears flickered in them, but he continued explaining “the prophecy was: it’s either the silver wolf save the kingdom or destroy it”.

My heart beat faster the more, and I turned to look at Magnus. Our eyes met, and I noticed the way he stared at me now. He didn’t stare at me like a weak and fragile omega, but as someone greater.

The royal commander suddenly shouted, “don’t let her live”.

Magnus threw the soldier he gripped his neck towards the other soldiers that ran towards us to attack. Before Magnus could step forward, I moved before him already and a powerful roar sounded from my body.

The battlefield shook tremendously, the soldiers stopped halfway and my eyes glowed the most. I raised my hands and silver energy spread across the snow.

One of the soldiers screamed, another dropped his weapon and all the soldiers suddenly fell to their knees. 

All the Blackthorne warriors stared at me with shock, I lowered my hands slowly and the whole battlefield fell completely silent.

Suddenly, all the Blackthorne warriors dropped to one knee and chorused “my Luna”.

The words echoed loudly across the mountains, and my eyes widened in disbelief because people didn’t see my weaknesses anymore.

I looked at Magnus, he struggled to stand up gently and he walked towards me slowly with his face still dark but his eyes were gentle.

He stopped right in front of me and said "you heard them right?”

I nodded with a hint of a smile on my face “yes, they called me their Luna”.

His fingers gently moved around my face and it landed on my cheeks “you deserve it”.

My heart pounded heavily because I had a feeling that may be sarcastic. “But I’m not strong enough to be a Luna” I whispered softly.

His fingers slowly brushed through my cheeks, “remember, you saved one of my warriors that was injured from dying”.

“That was because you protected me”, I interrupted immediately.

His eyes still lingered on my face, then he went on, “you still stood by me to fight against the army, you’re stronger than what you think”.

Tears filled my eyes immediately and I sobbed, “but I sincerely don’t know what I’m becoming”.

“We’ll find out together”, he pulled me close to himself and my heart skipped because of his response.

I rested my forehead on his strong chest, and I felt safe instead of being regarded as worthless. A sharp feminine voice suddenly interrupted us.

“Lyra!”

I snapped out of my thoughts and turned towards the direction the voice echoed from, only to find out that it’s Seraphina.

She stood close to the fortress gate with two warriors holding her hands, her face became so pale and she looked at me with hatred and fear.

“I want you to listen to me”, Seraphina yelled and her voice echoed across the mountain.

I turned to look at Magnus, and his expression became dreadful instantly.

“Take her inside”, he commanded.

The warriors that held her began dragging her away, and I walked almost towards her.

“Wait, let her speak” I ordered and the warriors obeyed without questioning me again.

“Lyra, do you realize she’s dangerous?” Magnus questioned.

“Yes I know, but I still need answers” I answered while my gaze was still on her.

The warriors brought her closer and she kept staring at Magnus with hatred. I was frightened by the stern look she gave Magnus, then she finally opened and said “you don’t know what you’ve done”.

“What are you talking about?” Magnus frowned.

Seraphina’s gaze shifted to me, then she snapped “I mean your marriage”.

My stomach twisted instantly and my breathing became unsteady. 

“What about it? Magnus demanded and she chuckled bitterly.

“Do you really think that the council of elders forced you to marry Magnus because Rowan rejected you?” She chuckled again.

I froze for a few seconds staring at Magnus and her, then I gathered the strength to ask “wasn’t that the reason?”

“No,” she answered immediately.

Magnus' expression darkened and he took a few steps close to her “then tell me the reason”.

Fear flickered across her face and she became silent after he spoke.

Her eyes moved between us, then she cleared her throat to start explaining, “the elders knew that Lyra is the silver wolf, and they didn’t send her to Blackthorne fortress to punish her, but they sent her so Magnus can protect you”.

My legs began shaking seriously and my lips parted several times, but no sound came out from my mouth.

“Protect her from what?” Magnus demanded.

I kept staring at her, and I noticed that her lips were trembling like she was scared of what she’s about to say, then she lowered her gaze slowly to the ground.

“The king,” she answered in a barely audible voice.

My jaw dropped, and my pulse hitched for a second. I stared at her without being able to utter a word, and my hands started shaking uncontrollably.

“Why would a king want to kill the future Luna of his kingdom?” Magnus demanded lividly.

Seraphina walked close to me and added, “because her existence threatens the throne and the prophecy has already begun”.

A few seconds later, a loud horn sounded from beyond the mountains and Magnus turned towards the direction the sound came from.

Karl’s face was full of fear when he ran towards him and bowed “Alpha, another set of army is approaching Blackthorne fortress”.

“What?” I gasped and covered my mouth with my palm, because of shock.

Magnus' eyes widened and he inquired “how many are they?”
