Chapter Seventeen

THE SILVER WOLF AWAKENS 

“The silver wolf has awakened”, the order echoed in the battlefield, and no one could move or even utter a word for a few seconds.

I walked towards the center of the battlefield, then I stopped to stare at my glowing hands as my entire body began shaking. 

My breathing became very heavy and unsteady, then I suddenly felt something powerful that I have never felt before move inside me.

All of a sudden, a deep growl escaped from my throat and the soldier that stood almost close to me stumbled backwards.

“What is happening to her?” The soldier asked but no one gave a response immediately.

“She’s not just an omega”, another soldier responded from a distance reluctantly while his sword fell from his hand to the snowy ground covered with blood.

I turned towards his direction, and he froze the moment our eyes met.

I began hearing voices from different directions the soldiers were and I didn’t even pay attention to what they were saying because all my focus was on Magnus.

I turned towards him, and I saw blood dripping from his side. Meanwhile, he held his broken sword loosely in his hand and my heart shattered for a second.

“Magnus!”

I yelled as I rushed towards him, and he looked at me then he muttered in a groggy voice “stay where you are, Lyra”. 

I shook my head “you’re bleeding seriously”.

“Don’t worry, I’m fine” he tried to fake a smile for me to believe that he’s fine.

I responded almost immediately “that’s a lie”.

Even in the battlefield where he’s hurt, he tried to protect me before one of the soldiers rushed towards him “I’ll kill you, black Alpha”.

Before the soldier could come close to him, my body begged to react before my mind could comprehend what was happening. I raised my hand and a strong silver wave exploded from my palm.

Boom!

That force threw the soldier far away across the mountain, he got injured and he couldn’t move again.

“What?” Everyone in the battlefield gasped and they covered their mouth with their palm.

I stared at my hand in shock for a few seconds, because I didn’t believe that I could do that.

Magnus looked at me weakly, his eyes were filled with shock and fear.

“L…Lyra” he stuttered weakly and my pulse stiffened for a second as fear gripped me.

“Did I hurt you?” My face became so pale and I hurried towards him immediately.

“No”, he shook his head.

I grabbed his arm gently and his body was burning. I tried to carry him and I noticed that blood soaked the side of his armor.

“You need to sit erect”, I whispered.

He didn’t even respond to me or even act like I just spoke to him and I was startled. I tried to carry him up again, then he muttered firmly “I told you that I’m fine”.

“No, you’re not Magnus”, I answered immediately.

He looked at me for a few seconds then he sighed “stubborn little wolf”.

My heart skipped a bit because that was the first time I heard him call me that. Before I could respond to him, a royal commander suddenly yelled from across the battlefield “kill her!”

My blood froze instantly, then all the soldiers raised their weapons. Magnus jerked up from the ground immediately and he stood in front of me, “no one dares to touch her”.

The commander let out a dry chuckle “you’re already wounded, black Alpha and you can’t protect her that way”.

Magnus' expression darkened and his eyes became so dreadful “then watch and see”.

The commander raised his weapon “attack!”

My heart started pounding very fast the moment hundreds of soldiers rushed towards us. Magnus walked forward but I grabbed his hand “don’t go, you’re already hurt”.

“I know but I can still fight,” he muttered.

I looked at my hand and whispered “maybe I can fight too”.

His eyes widened “no, you can’t”.

“Why do you think so?” I asked carefully.

A thick silence settled between us for a few seconds before he said “because I don’t know what that power will do to you”.

I gulped and answered in a low voice “neither do I too”.

The ground beneath our feet shook instantly, Magnus looked down before he turned to look at me. A deep growl echoed from inside my chest and my bones began to ache seriously.

“Ahhh!”

I screamed the moment my knees gave out beneath me and he dropped to his knees immediately.

My fingers hovered around the snowy ground as pain spread through my body, my back arched and my breath became very wild. 

I knew that something was changing inside me and I whispered weakly “Magnus”.

He held my shoulders “look at me, I’m right here with you”.

I managed to open my eyes to look at him “I’m scared of what is happening”.

His expression changed immediately “you don’t have to because you’re not alone”.

The warmth in his voice kept me calm and I grabbed his arm tightly.

“Don’t worry, you’ll be fine” he held my hand to affirm.

Suddenly the pain grew intense and silver light exploded from my body. Everyone that was around us was thrown backwards and I screamed because of the searing pain.

I was still on my knees when the light disappeared, but I noticed that something had changed because I could hear a voice inside me that made me pause to inquire “who are you?”

“Your wolf,” the voice responded.

I was startled and I closed my eyes slowly to interrogate the more “I thought I was an omega?”

The voice growled “you were never weak”.

Tears welled up in my eyes immediately and pressed further “but why did everyone treat me like I was?”

The voice didn’t respond for a few seconds and I thought it had disappeared before its growl startled me.

The voice whispered “because they were scared of what you’ll become”.

My eyes widened instantly and I stared at him, while he was still holding my hand.

“What’s wrong?” He panicked.

My heart pounded heavily that I thought Magnus could hear it, and I snapped “I think I know the reason why everyone was scared of me”.

His expression became so serious that he didn’t even pay attention to what was happening around us.

“Tell me the reason”, he said.
