POV Ruby

"I can do this. I can do this. I HAVE to do this." I mumbled to myself as I wobbled out of my room. It was late or early, depending on your point of view. I had managed to send them all home a few minutes ago. Mom, Slivia and Cassy all wanted to spend the night but I had argued and Varg drove them home with promises that they would be back in a few hours. I knew that I had to be quick but I needed to see it. To be sure.

I had overheard the doctor telling Mom where it was right before she left. He asked if she wanted a moment with the body but she refused. He explained that it would be moved to the morgue in an hour or so. I had quickly and quietly unhooked everything from me and slid out of the bed. My leg was in unrelenting pain but I had one thing left to do. I limped down the empty hallway. Luckily, the room was close to my own. I struggled to open the door when I heard the voice and froze. I closed my eyes. Of course, HE didn't leave. I should have known.
