Chapter 3

POV Wolf

I couldn't believe it when Scarlett introduced her. Suddenly I knew who Foxy had seen at The Spot last night. Why didn't she call me to let me know? I fumed for a moment. Of course, I don't know if she even could if she wanted to and why would she want to? I had ghosted her years ago. She had gotten even more beautiful in those years. I smiled when I finally saw her on the stage. She was breathtaking. I grinned as she scanned the crowd, knowing that she was looking for me. I saw her pause and look at Sam but was relieved when she rolled her eyes and kept looking.

When she saw me, I remembered everything and the smile dropped from my face. This was the girl that left me. She destroyed me. Made me the shell of a person I am today. I stared into her eyes as I thought.

"Ruby, your first mistake was leaving and destroying me, your second was coming back." I thought. Her eyes looked confused and then sad for a moment but then her friend took her attention. I glared at her and then smirked. This was going to be fun.

POV Sam

I stared back at Ruby in shock. She smiled and finally I realized how sexy she was now. I winked and she rolled her eyes and looked away. I continued to look at her as she locked eyes with Wolf and then as she and her friend talked. I grinned. Ruby was my first crush and I wasnt going to let her get away now that she was back. I loved a challenge and fucking my old friend was going to be the challenge of the year.

"Dibs" Pete called but Chad and I argued.

"Nope. She's mine" I stated and the guys groaned. This was going to be fun.

POV Ruby

When I looked back at Wolf, I was disappointed. He was looking at me the way a predator looks at prey. Could he really be as heartless and cruel as Scar described him? And why is he looking at me like that? I've done nothing to him.

I looked over at Sam as was even more disappointed. He and his friends were obviously talking about me while staring at me. I felt dirty just by their eyes and Sam was the worst one.

I took a deep breath and looked over at Scarlett.

"Do you believe me now?" she asked and I nodded.

"I'm so sorry Ruby but you should stay away from them. They are gunning for you. I can see it in their eyes" Scar added and I nodded as we walked off the stage. Scarlett led Cassy and I toward the bar.

"I can see that but why?" I asked and she shrugged.

"Who knows? Because you're new? Because you left them before? Because you're hot? Who knows with them. I swear, when you left, both those boys lost all morality and kindness." Scar explained. We ordered a round of shots as Don came over to us. We drank them quickly.

"Another round, please?" I requested. Scar and Don exchanged a look but Cass just nodded.

"Are you sure, Ruby?" Scar asked. I smiled and nodded.

"Don't worry. She can handle her liquor." Cassy replied. The bartender put four shots down in front of us.

"I'm good" Don said. Scar waved it off too. I shrugged and looked around.

"Hell, Ruby. I'll drink with you!" Sam yelled as he and Pete sauntered over. They each took a glass and the four of us drank. After we drank, Sam turned to me and hugged me.

"I can't believe that you're actually here." he said as he let me go. I laughed but looked over at Scar who was rolling her eyes.

"So why are you back? How was New York?" He asked

"And who is this lovely Cassy? Where did you find her?" Pete added. I quickly told him about our moms and that my mom got a job at the Rose Hills newspaper so we decided to move back.

"What about you? What's going on?" I asked as I got a mixed drink from the bartender. I smiled my thanks to him and he winked back. Sam and Pete began to drone on and on about all their football triumphs. Cassy and I faked interest as we sipped our drinks and I checked out both the bartenders. One of them was perking my interest. I was standing at the end of the bar, leaning forward on it slightly. Suddenly I felt someone step close behind me and lean in. He put his hands on either side of me, trapping me against the bar. I was about to spin around and slap someone when a dark voice whispered in my ear.

"Hey, baby. Did you miss me?" Wolf whispered. I turned my head to find his face just inches from my own. I took a steading breath and turned all the way around so I was facing him. He left his arms and continued to lean so I was stuck being extremely close to him. I faked a smile and looked at him

"Hi Wolf! It's good to see you" I said brightly. He smirked and leaned even closer. Sam, Pete and Cassy all froze and watched us.

"Is that right?" he growled. I knew that he expected me to be all weak kneed and doe eyed at him and his behavior but actually, I was just annoyed and kind of bored. I've dealt with his kind before. Guys that think that they're dark and dangerous. I was disappointed at his lack of originality.

"Nah. I'm lying. I'm actually bored with this whole 'bad boy' thing you've got going on. It's almost as bad as Sam's jock player cliché." I replied loudly.

"Damn!" Pete yelled. Sam looked hurt and I smirked at the moment of confusion that passed over Wolfs face. He quickly recovered though.

"You've changed." Wolf stated. I shrugged.

"So have both of you, unfortunately not for the better." I pushed him away but he held his ground.

"Move." I commanded and he smirked.

"No. You've been gone for years. I'm not letting you get away that easily." Wolf replied.

"Fine." I said and went to knee him in the junk but he saw it coming and blocked.

"Now is that anyway to treat your first kiss?" he snarled. Shit. He was better than I thought. I sighed.

"This is ridiculous. What are you going to do? Pin me against the bar all night? Fine. I was in the mood to drink anyway." I snapped. I turned around and caught the bartenders eye.

"Can I get another shot?" I asked.

"Make that two." he ordered and I shook my head. Don, Cassy and Scar all caught my eye and motioned to ask if they should intervene but I shook my head and waved them away. Sam and Pete took off as well. Cowards. As the bartender set down our shots, two black haired boys and the girl I had spotted in The Spots parking lot last night came over and sat down.

"Hey, boss. Who's the redhead to you?" The tallest boy asked.

"This here is Ruby. We go way back. Ruby, this is Jackal, Foxy and Hound." Wolf replied. I turned around to nod to each of them and then turned back to take my shot.

"Ruby here was my first kiss." Wolf explained as he leaned his hips into me.

"I was hers too." he added.

"Are you going to drink this with me or not?" I asked and he nodded. As he grabbed his shot, I took the chance to try to slip out the opening his missing arm created but I wasn't fast enough and he grabbed me by the waist.

"Did you really think that was going to work?" he snarled. He had both his arms around me now. I shrugged.

"Worth a shot." I replied with a bored look.

"And where do you want to run off to now? To Sam? Pete? Your girls?" he asked.

"Actually, I had my eye on one of the bartenders if you must know." I smirked. I saw the rage pass over Wolf's face and I took that moment to push him away. He almost fell and I hurried over to Cassy and Scarlett. I heard Wolf's dark chuckle after me

"You ok?" Scar asked and I nodded.

"Yeah. Wolf is just having dominance issues." I said loudly so he could hear me.

POV Wolf

Crap. Ruby is not who she used to be. She sassy and strong and a bit dark and I love all of it. She's a huge turn on and I knew that I was going to have to have her. When she slipped away from me I knew that I was going to have to destroy her. When I heard her talk shit about me to her friends, I saw red but I calmed myself and took a deep breath. I walked over with a smirk.

"You just can't help but talk about me can you, baby?" I teased as Cassy, Don and Scarlett glared at me.

"Am I on your mind that much?" I added and she laughed. I stared at her as she giggled at me.

"Oh, honey. Trust me. I haven't thought about you in years." she shot back. I glared at her as she walked back to the bar and leaned in to talk to one of the bartenders. He nodded quickly and called to the other bartender.

"I'm going on my break." he announced and hurried around the bar after grabbing a bottle of Jack. Ruby giggled as he reached her and she put her arm around him and walked away. I turned back to see the surprise on Scar and Don's face but Cassy just nodded and chuckled.

"She's bluffing." I muttered.

"No." Cassy laughed, "She's not. I guarantee that she's making out with him already." I clenched my jaw and she smiled at me.

"What's wrong, tough guy? Not used to women with a backbone?" She asked as she walked by me.

I glared after both of them. This was not going to end well for Ruby. I would make sure of that.
