Azalea's Pov My knees are aching badly. My toes are probably red too. But I can't stop pacing from end to end of my secret roost with Alpha Klein, waiting anxiously for him, hoping he'll honour my note. Not only did he support Aurelia when she said she was becoming Luna, he also ordered that the news be spread throughout the pack. He looked me in the eyes and announced that he will be choosing a mate, since the moon goddess hasn't blessed him with one. Tears spill from my eyes as I remember the coldness in his eyes when he said that. I may be wolfless, but I still exist. I'm not dead or nowhere. I'm the mate the moon goddess has blessed him with…. Or maybe just a curse he's refusing to accept. After what feels like forever, I finally hear footsteps approching the door from outside. But something about it feels strange. Like Alpha Klein is bringing along escorts. I don't get the chance to think over it before the door bursts open. To my greatest shock, Luna Emily is standing by the door, glaring at me like an insufferable pest. How is she here? Where's Alpha Klein? As if hearing my thoughts, she shows me my note, guiding another round of cruel shock through my body. “Why did you want to see my son?’’ She demands, taking slow steps towards me. It doesn't need telling that I'm retreating back as well, dreading her anger. “What does a dirty traitor like you have to do with the Alpha!” She yells, and I instinctively guide my stomach with a hand. That catches her attention. One of the qualities of Luna is thoroughness, and Luna Emily has never failed with that. Her eyes darkens with an emotion I can't quite place, but it disappears as quickly as it came. ‘‘What is this? Not what I'm thinking right?’’ She says then smirks. “You wouldn't dare be pregnant for my son. And even if you are, I'll destroy that bastard before anyone even hears of him.’’ “No…’’ “Guards!!’’ She fires, and two hefty looking men rushes into the room at once. “Deal with this rag. And lock her in the store basement.’’ “No, please my Luna’’ I struggle as the men grab me. Luna Emily doesn't spare another glance back and walks out, leaving me for the guards to devour. They weren't gentle as they drag me against the floor to the storeroom, far from the main house where anybody can hear my screams. They fling me down the stairs to the basement, and I land hard on my waist. A painful scream leaves my lips, and I feel warm liquid spill between my inner thighs. What I fear will be blood. I don't mind the guards coming predatory at me, smirking like devils ready to attack after permission from the almighty. I push a hand under my dress, and when I pull it out there's crimson stain. “She's bleeding.’’ One of the guards says with fear crossing his eyes. “Just imagine it's a virgin while fucking her then.’’ The second guard shrug. By now I can feel consciousness slipping rapidly from my face. “Don't be silly. We weren't ordered to kill her yet.” “She's still going to die anyway. Does it matter when?’’ The second guard’s strong opposition is the last thing I note before darkness swallows me. *** ALPHA KLEIN'S POV I'm trying to listen to Aurelia telling me stories of every picture as we look through a photo album, but it's impossible with Xaia flipping restlessly in my head, thinking about that omega. “This.’’ Aurelia points at a picture, her beautiful blue eyes growing soft and nearly misty. “You remember this?’’ How can I ever forget? It's a picture of us under the meteor shower three years ago. The moment before I left to get more wine for us, only to find my mate packing out the wine in batches. A wretched traitor blood who has served in my packhouse for as long as I can remember. Choosing to ignore Aurelia, I flip over the page, hoping we won't have to talk about that miserable memory. But Aurelia stops my hand, with a sad smile crossing her face. ‘‘Do you love her?’’ She asks the most ridiculous question I expect to hear from her. “Are you serious right now?’’ I frown, expressing my displeasure and disappointment in her. She knows she's the one I love. She used to be my crush as children, and as we grew older I realised she possessed all I want in a mate. Slender, not too busty, very beautiful and fragile, yet quite brave. She's my dream woman. “I'm sorry for leaving the way I did.’’ Aurelia says, pinching her perfect nails with so much sadness in her eyes that my heart breaks. “I was just too heartbroken when you told me she was your mate.’’ I know that. She doesn't have to apologise for the moon goddess’ own mistake. I pull her into my chest, ignoring Xaia's rigid opposition inside me. “I should be the one sorry. I broke our promise of being together, but I'm just about to fix that now.’’ Aurelia pulls away to look at me, and I'm shocked to see a pool of tears in her pretty eyes. “Why’re you crying?’’ I try to hold her but she flinches back, glaring at me. “Why didn't you reject her immediately? You claim not to want her, yet you marked her that same night.’’ I'm speechless now, with a painful lump blocking my throat. It wasn't me that night, it was all Xaia. He's such a stubborn wolf that sometimes I can't control him. He couldn't resist the omega after six years of hoping for our fated without success, even though we'd agreed to choose Aurelia. Aurelia smiles bitterly at me and stands up, heading back towards the bedroom. I rush after her, calling her back even if she won't listen. “Aurelia please.’’ I finally get a hold of her arm, but she yanks my grip away, her eyes red with rage now. “You don't truly want me, or you won't still be keeping her in the packhouse!’’ “I want you, Aurelia. And I don't care about that fucking omega.’’ I'm frustrated by her accusations. “Then reject her, Klein.’’ She fires. “Reject her tonight and make love to me.’’°° AZALEA °°A bitter lump rolls down my throat. My heart is racing like it would blow out of my chest. But I can't even move an inch right now. Not with Héctor's hardness pressing against my ass. I haven't even gotten over the kiss this evening. But here he is pulling another stunt. “I don't think this is the right place. The walls are barely soundproofed. I-I could hear noise from the next suite while I had my bath.’’ I shudder as his lips presses the back of my neck again.I've never had him this close. Because he's never tried to get too close. What has come over him today? He pauses to stare at me in the mirror. I can hear my own heartbeat pulsating against my ears as I meet his sensual gaze. He releases my body to hold my arms instead, caressing succulently. ‘‘Do you care about me, Xendaya?’’I swallow hard. He wasn't calling me Xen. Meaning he was about to make a dead serious move that I fear I might not be ready for. ‘‘I do… care about you.’’‘‘Do you trust me then?’’“
°° HÉCTOR °°Nothing ever felt as satisfying as the amount of silence that sleeps in after my voice. Meaning everyone is listening with rapt attention so the speech I'm about to share would sink deeply in their heads. You're just about to go completely crazy, Klein. Whatever piece of stability is left in that derailed mind of his, I'll make sure every last bit of it is ruined. “This announcement is basically to formally introduce my Luna to all of you.’’ I say, tightening my grip around Xendaya's waist, which Klein’s gaze has refused to break off of since we got here. Obviously he still doesn't get it. He won't bring himself to digest the thought that Xendaya is now my Luna except someone tells him. So I'm just about to do that. “Meet Xendaya Delrico. The woman the moon goddess decided to bless my fate with. My mate. My Luna. And the one behind ShadowFang’s unmatchable success these past years as you all already know.’’ Every line I said, I laced it with heavy emotions that carr
°° AZALEA °°Something doesn't seem right. Not with Lea. Or with the Alpha, Klein. I know things were bound to blow out between him and Héctor like this; their hatred for each other seethes so deep that both can't stand the sight and thoughts of each other. But I never expected to be the center of their clash. Klein though. The way he stares at me. Like he knew better than just the woman standing in front of him for the first time. Like he knew more than just this figure cladded in matching magenta dresses. And most scarily, like he knew what it looked like behind those clothes on my skin. That last part isn't my thought. It's Lea. She's drawn to Klein in an uncanny manner that even she refers to as dangerous. She thinks we must steer clear of him, and I fear that resolution stems from the fact that she doesn't trust her instincts around him. Yes he is attractive. The devilish villains always are. But his lust? Not very commendable. Héctor leans in to whisper something in his
°° KLEIN °°“Hey? Are you there?’’ Saxon kept calling on the phone. “She's here.’’ I said near whisper, my eyes fixed on my mate as she approached quietly. Unbotheted.“Who is? Aurelia?”“I'll call you again.’’ I end the call, focusing completely on Azalea now. She has also recognised me from afar off, but again that nonchalant look sat on her face. She stops inches away, her gaze moving up behind me. What I suppose would be the sign where is was boldly written ‘Ladies Restroom’ in italics. Her gaze travels back down at me, and Xaia skips against my ribs. She smiles. A smile that didn't reach her eyes. “I understand you may have walked your Luna here, but this is the ladies restroom. It is not very convenient to have a male supervising the entrance.’’ That knocked me off whatever dreamy imaginations were going on in my head. ‘‘W-what?’’Her face didn't move. “Anyone could mistake you for a pervert and clearly you're not one. Right?’’I step back. What was that? A perverted sec
°° KLEIN °°It was her. Gracefully alighting from the black escalade.“A.. Azalea.’’ The word rolls off my lips in a shaky whisper, and my legs acts on their own, pushing me up from my seat. In the last four years… despite how hard I tried to convince myself she was alive, somewhere at the back of my mind still believed she was dead. That I'd lost her forever, and was now on the journey of losing my own self. Seeing her right now— with her hair flowing gracefully over her shoulders, dressed in an elegant magenta blouse, embroidered to perfection, hanging over her belly, to reveal just enough skin around her waist. Paired with baggy magenta pants, pure silk material that complimented the blouse brilliantly— a wave of genuine hope hit me. I hadn't noticed Héctor holding the door out for her, until he shuts it behind her and offers his hand. My heart skips beats as Azalea places her hand over his, smiling like he was the most amazing thing in her life. He walks her into the ceremon
°° KLEIN °°By the time we crossed into Black Fur Pack, the celebration was already underway.Late. Prolly half way gone by now maybe? But it was never my thing to arrive early at these meetings. I always ruled the place, gracing the gathering with my presence. And I backed that by arriving last after every other guest should have arrived. Anyone who comes in after me then becomes the object of lateness. It is an outdoor marquee ceremony at the square of the pack. Just enough space to contain the nuisance. The beta notices me first, and he immediately rushes over to welcome us, unable to hide his surprise. He leads us to the Alphas seating, a separated section from the multitude with rounded tables. Each for two Alphas and their mates; that's a total of four persons a table. I don't miss the stares from the other Alphas as we walked through. No hard feelings but I had my nerves strung tight, observing for the worst. I can barely meet their gazes or try to socialize, and I just kn
Chapter 5ALPHA KLEIN'S POV‘‘Are you even listening to me, Klein?’’ Aurelia snaps at me with visible irritation on her face, jolting me back to present. “I-I'm sorry.” I let out a raspy breath, once again trying to focus on the ongoing ceremony before me. “What is wrong with you? You’ve been zon
Chapter 4Azalea's PovI slip out of the bed, surprising not only Alpha Klein but even myself at my strange readiness to defend his unprecedented attack. He tugs my arm angrily. “You won't speak of rejection to my face.’’ “Why not?’’ I fire back, yanking my hand from him. But his grip is too firm.
Chapter 3ALPHA KLEIN'S POVI step back, unarmed by her demand. My phone rings from the table behind, and Aurelia rolls her eyes, exiting into the bedroom. I don't go after her now. I return for my phone instead, swallowing the lump in my throat as the call connects. ‘‘Saxon.’’ My beta. “Alpha,
Chapter 1Azalea's PovThe rain patters are gentle on the roof. Not the kind that feels relaxing, but the type that makes your skin crawl in annoyance. It has been showering since last night and probably hindered Alpha Klein from coming out to our secret roost. Or so I choose to believe. I had sn
