Celeste stood in the dark hallway under the villa. Her heart beat fast. In front of her was a door with no handle. Only a keypad and a strange symbol carved into the wall — a snake wrapped around a sword.

She had seen that symbol before. It was on the file called Project Callisto.

She typed her mother’s birthday.

Nothing.

She tried her own.

Still nothing.

She stepped back, feeling nervous. Then her fingers touched the bracelet on her wrist. It had once belonged to her mother.

She stared at it. Maybe…

She held the bracelet near the keypad.

A beep.

Then a soft click.

The wall started to slip open.

Behind it turned into a staircase going down into darkness.

Celeste hesitated. Her feet felt heavy. However she couldn’t stop right now. She had to understand what was down there.

She took one step.

Then another step.

The air grew chillier as she went deeper. It smelt like dust and old stone.

Finally, she reached a wide room. It was quiet. A table stood in the middle, covered in papers, photos

"You should've stayed far away from him."Marcus sat across from her inside the deserted warehouse. His face became way too calm. Like he'd been planning this conversation for years.Celeste kept her hand near her gun. "What're you talking about?""Damien De Argent." Marcus leaned lower back in his chair. "You believe he's kind of exceptional. I think he loves you. But he's similar to mom….. just like some of these bastards.""You don't know him.""I recognise him better than you do." Marcus pulled out this thick folder filled with papers. "Been tracking him down since we were kids. Every shady deal. every lie. all of us he screwed over to protect his own family."He drove the folder throughout the table. Celeste simply looked at it."Open it," Marcus stated. "except you're scared of what you'll locate."She grabbed the folder and yanked it open. snap shots scattered anywhere. documents. Financial institution statements. Damien's name was on every single one.Her belly dropped."What

"You should have come alone."Celeste spun around. Marcus stood in the doorway of the abandoned factory. Three guys with guns behind him."I did come alone.""Then what's this?" Marcus nodded at one of his men. "Check her."Hands grabbed her. Yanked off her jacket. Found the tracker Damien had sewn into the lining.Marcus crushed it under his boot. "You disappoint me, sister.""I am not your sister." but saying it out loud felt wrong. The resemblance was too much. The way he moved. The manner he tilted his head while he talked. It was all familiar in a manner that made her chest hurt."Deny it if you want." He got nearer. "We each know what's true. Mom tried to erase me. However, I am nonetheless here. And I'm gonna finish what she began.""What are you talking about?""Destroying all of them." His eyes looked useless. "Each family. Every alliance. Anyone who ever had strength over us."Celeste's heart turned into pounding in her ears. "it really is not justice. That's just revenge."

"Don't scream."The voice got here from her back. Celeste froze in the hallway, her hand halfway to her gun."I'm no longer right here to harm you. I'm right here due to the fact we share blood."She spun around. A man stood inside the shadows by using the window. Tall. dark hair. Eyes that looked much like her father's."Who're you?" He stepped into the light. The resemblance knocked the air out of her lungs. Same jawline. Same nose. But his eyes were different. Cold. Like something had died in them a long time in the past."You don't remember me. But I remember you. You were five. I was twelve."Her mind went blank for a while. Her mom said she was an only child. There were no brothers. No siblings."You are lying.""Am I?" He pulled something from his pocket. An old picture, creased and dwindled. Two kids on a bench. A small girl with darkish curls. A boy along with his arm around her.She grabbed it from him. The girl was definitely her. She knew that dress. The garden in the bac

"Celeste, wake up."The voice pulled her from darkness. She opened her eyes. White ceiling. White walls. Smell of antiseptic. Not the lab. A hospital room.Damien sat beside her bed. His hand held hers. His eyes were red like he'd been crying."You're okay," he breathed. "Thank god.""What happened?" Her throat hurt when she talked."We got you out. Me and James. We blew half the facility getting to you."Memory crashed back. Dr. Kavanagh. The electrodes. The programming. That hallucination of Damien speaking in his father's voice. She jerked her hand away."Don't."Damien's face crumpled. "Celeste—""I saw you. In my head. After he drugged me." She pushed herself up even though it hurt. "You were there. Speaking like him.""That wasn't real. You know that.""Do I?" She looked at him. Really looked. "How do I know what's real anymore? They programmed me to trust you. Showed me pictures when I was just a kid. Your father used you without you even knowing.""I didn't know." His voice br

"Don't touch me."Celeste backed against the wall, shaking. Damien iced up in the doorway."Celeste, it's me.""I know who you're. That's the problem."Two hours since finding out Damien's father was alive. Two hours since everything fell apart. Now the memories were coming. Fast and brutal."Talk to me," Damien said softly."I can't. There's too much."He stepped closer. She flinched hard."Please. Just give me space."Pain flashed across his face. He backed away and left.Celeste buried her face in her knees. The memories kept flooding in.A white room. Bright lights. Cold metal table."Subject Twelve, please remain still."Dr. Marcus Kavanagh. Damien's father."This won't hurt. Just a small injection."But it did hurt. Everything hurts.Another memory. Different rooms.A boy sat across from her. Dark hair. Serious eyes. Young James."Subject Four, you will complete the task."The boy stared at a puzzle, hands shaking."I can't.""You will. Or Subject Twelve suffers the consequences

"His father?"Celeste's voice came out barely above a whisper. The photograph shook in her hands. She stared at the man in the lab coat. The face was younger but unmistakable.Damien's father. The woman in red nodded. "Dr. Marcus Kavanagh. He created Project Avalon. He designed every test. Every manipulation. Every memory we lost.""No." Celeste backed away. "That's impossible. Damien would've told me.""Would he?" The woman's eyes held pity. "Or does he not know either?"Footsteps echoed from outside. Heavy boots. Multiple people."They're here," the woman said quickly. "We don't have much time.""Who's here?""The ones who want this buried forever." She shoved the file into Celeste's hands. "Take it. Learn the truth. But be careful who you trust.""Wait—" Celeste grabbed her arm. "What's your real name?""Victoria." The woman smiled sadly. "We used to play together. Before they erased you."The front door exploded inward.men in tactical equipment poured into the constructing. Celes
