CHAPTER 51

Spencer’s POV

The phone rang twice before she picked up.

“Hello?” Clara’s voice came through the line, soft and tired.

Just hearing her made my chest feel lighter.

“Hey,” I said, leaning back in my chair. “Are you alive over there? You just left.”

I tried to sound normal, casual, like I wasn’t thinking about her way more than I should be.

There was a small pause.

“Yeah… I’m fine,” she replied, but something about her tone felt off.

I frowned.

“You don’t sound fine.”

“I just finished

CHAPTER 60Clara’s POVLin Woo and I talked more, catching up on everything we had missed out on.It still didn’t feel real that he was sitting in front of me after all these years. There was a time I thought I would never see him again, that he had just disappeared from my life completely. But now he was here, right in front of me, drinking coffee as if nothing had changed. He told me he went back to South Korea, his home country, because of several family issues. He said he didn’t tell me back then because he didn’t want to bother me, that he thought it would only make things harder. He stayed there for a long time helping out his family, and he said he had no way to contact me because he lost all my information. He didn’t remember my number, and we had no mutual friends there. He said he tried searching for me online once, but nothing came up. Then, after a while, he began seeing the rumors. I listened as he spoke, nodding slowly, but if I was being honest, I couldn’t fully concen

CHAPTER 59Clara’s POVI didn’t plan on coming here.I just… ended up here.My body moved on its own, my feet carrying me down familiar streets until I was standing in front of the café I hadn’t visited in years. I stared at the glass for a few seconds, watching strangers inside laugh and talk like nothing in the world could touch them.It felt weird.Like I was standing outside of a life that used to belong to me.I pushed the door open, and the small bell rang above my head, the sound instantly pulling memories out of places I had buried deep. The smell of coffee hit me next, warm and comforting, and for a moment, my chest tightened so much it almost hurt.Nothing had changed. The same chairs. The same counter. The same calm atmosphere that made you forget everything outside existed.I walked up to the counter and ordered quietly, not really paying attention to the words coming out of my mouth.“One latte, please.”The barista nodded, and I stepped aside to wait, my fingers loosely

CHAPTER 58Esteban’s POVThe man didn’t know I was coming. That was the best part.I stood across the street inside the parked car, watching the warehouse entrance. My fingers tapped slowly against the steering wheel as I stared at the entrance, my face calm, my breathing steady. I wasn’t nervous. I wasn’t angry.I was focused. He thought he could double-cross Spencer and get away with it. Thought he could take money and deliver fewer products. Thought he could lie.People like him always thought they were smarter than they were. They weren’t.They were just desperate. And desperate people made mistakes.I reached over and grabbed my gun from the passenger seat, checking it out of habit. Loaded. Ready.Good.I stepped out of the car and closed the door quietly, my shoes hitting the pavement without a sound. The night air was cool, but I didn’t feel it. I never felt anything when I was working.I walked toward the warehouse slowly, my eyes scanning everything. As I got closer, I coul

CHAPTER 57Spencer's POV Esteban didn’t try to stop me again, and that alone told me he understood there was no changing my mind. He simply followed behind me as I walked out of the office, his presence steady and familiar, as it had always been since we were boys. The hallway felt longer than usual, quieter too, the kind of quiet that comes before something irreversible happens. My shoes clicked against the polished floor, each step deliberate, each second bringing me closer to the storm waiting outside. When we reached the elevator, I pressed the button and waited. The doors opened, and we stepped inside without speaking. I could feel Esteban watching me, studying, when he was trying to figure out whether I was about to do something reckless or something necessary. “You don’t have to do this,” he said finally, his voice calm but cautious.I kept my eyes forward. “Yes, I do.”The elevator descended, and when the doors opened to the lobby, the noise outside was already audible. E

CHAPTER 56Spencer’s POVI was at my office, going through some paperwork, when there was a knock on the door.I didn’t look up immediately. My eyes stayed on the document in front of me, though my mind was no longer focused on the words. The past few weeks had drained me in ways I didn’t expect. Every paper I signed, every decision I made, every move I planned—it was all for one thing.Clara.Everything was for her.“Come in,” I said flatly. The door opened, and I looked up, immediately recognizing the man who stepped inside. It was my personal bodyguard. It was also my childhood friend.Esteban.He closed the door behind him quietly, his movements calm and precise. He had always moved like that, like someone who was constantly aware of his surroundings. He was tall, even taller than I was, his broad shoulders stretching the fabric of his black suit. His dark hair was slicked back neatly, and the scar that ran through his eye and down to his cheek gave him a permanently dangerous lo

CHAPTER 55Florida’s POVThe bathwater was still warm, scented with eucalyptus and something expensive I couldn’t pronounce but loved anyway. Steam clung to the marble walls, softening the edges of the room, turning everything hazy and indulgent. I leaned back against the porcelain curve of the tub, one leg bent, my phone balanced carefully above the water. The screen glowed against the dim lighting.Notifications kept climbing.Shares. Comments. News alerts. Interview requests. My lips curved slowly. It was almost too easy.I refreshed the page again, watching the numbers tick upward in real time. My statement had crossed a million views in under an hour. The sympathy was pouring in exactly the way I knew it would. I had simply looked scared. That was the key.I looked through the comments.“You’re so strong for speaking up.Protect your family at all costs.”“That woman needs serious help.”“We stand with you, Florida.”I exhaled slowly, sinking deeper into the water.Predictable.
