CHAPTER 20

SAPPHIRE.

Today was the day.

I walked out of the servants quarters with Menah and Bujok, some other servants trailing behind, some ahead.

The day of the full blood moon.

Everyone had woken up far earlier than usual. The sun was yet to rise as we walked along the pathway, the trees swaying slightly in the early morning chill.

I wrapped my arms tighter round myself as I looked ahead, our feet scrunching in the quiet. Even from here, I could see the castle, it seemed to glow in contrast to the dew heavy fields of grass, the dark blue sky.

All the Alphas and royals had arrived. The past two days had been a grueling time. I was sorely wrong when I thought we were cautious before. Now no one spoke at all within the palace walls, only the masters were permitted to give instructions as we worked.

The only exception to the rule was if we were in a secluded room, far from the royals.
