Pregnancy Test Strip

ผู้เขียน: Emma
Evelyn’s POV

As I drove home, my thoughts ravaged chaotically in my mind.

It had been almost half a month. Half a month and two more days if I counted correctly. Half a month and two days since that night with the mystery man. Just thinking about the night made my pulse quicken.

I had been expecting anything, a sign maybe, something to show that I had been impregnated. Biologically, by now I should have started to experience the initial symptoms.

I stopped outside a pharmacy, impatience driving me. I didn’t even think about it; I just went in, bought the test, and drove again.

Back at my apartment, I locked the door, tossed my bag on the couch, and went to the bathroom. My hands trembled as I opened the packet.

For the first time in a while, I felt nervous. A feeling I had already grown unaccustomed to.

Minutes stretched like hours.

When the result showed—a single pale line, negative—I stared until my eyes burned.

“Unbelievable,” I whispered, throwing the stick into the bin. My heart clenched—not with disappointment, but with frustration, like something had failed me.

I grabbed my phone, scrolled to Alex’s name, and called.

He picked up quickly. “Miss Evelyn?”

“Tell me,” I snapped, not bothering with greetings. “That man—” I almost spat the word—“the one you arranged. Is he incapable? Because it’s been over half a month and I’m still not pregnant.”

On the other end, silence lingered too long. I imagined Alex speechless searching for answers.

Finally, he said carefully, “Miss, conception doesn’t usually happen from a single encounter. It’s… a matter of chance and probability. Timing, cycles, many factors. It’s not abnormal that there’s no result yet.”

I pressed my palm against my forehead, pacing. His voice was rational, calm, but it only made my irritation spike.

“So what?” I bit out. “I wait? I try again and again, hoping chance favors me?” My laugh came out. “Isn’t that too risky?”

I stopped pacing, then relaxed.

“If once isn’t enough, then he comes again,” I said firmly. “Every day, if necessary. Do you hear me, Alex? Every single day, until I get pregnant.

I pressed my forehead against the cool glass. Every day, until I get pregnant. I’d make it happen. But wouldn’t it give rise to feelings? Especially if it's with the same person?

Alex’s POV

Her words surprised even me. Every day. Until she got pregnant.

Evelyn had always been decisive, smart but this… this was something else entirely. I knew she wanted control over her future, and a child with Ben would give it.

But what she asked for—what she demanded—every day?

From the corner of the office, Ben shifted. He had been silent during the call, listening in to what Rue had to say.  The weight of his stare intense.

I forced myself to meet his eyes. “She wants… daily meetings,” I said cautiously, avoiding the rawer words. “What should I tell her?”

Ben’s expression didn’t change. He leaned back, hands folded loosely, as he thought hard.

I hesitated, then asked, “Can you even… manage that? You’re already—busy. Every day is—”

He cut me off with the smallest motion: a nod. Steady.

Before I could react, he extended a hand for the phone. His voice was low, almost hollow when he spoke: “Give it to me.”

I handed it over.

Ben held the phone to his ear…

It took only a second before his voice slipped into something ghostlike, deliberately so.

“Then what about tonight?” he asked, each word slow, dragging. “Will you be back home?”

The silence that followed was heavy. I imagined her biting her lip, calculating, the way she always did.

Finally, her voice came—soft, tired. “No. Not tonight. I’m exhausted.”

She hung up before getting Ben's reaction.

The room fell silent except for the faint buzz of the disconnected line. He stared at the dark screen, unmoving. A minute passed. Then two. The air grew heavier with every heartbeat.

At last, he placed the phone down.

“ Maybe she is still with her ex-husband, yesterday they were together too.” the words came out of my mouth before they registered in my brain.

“Ex-husband?” Ben asked, his voice a bit surprised, anger lacing it.

“Yeah,” I nodded with a whisper. I couldnt help but notice how his face had turned drastically after I mentioned that she was with the ex-husband.Infuriated, hurt…I wasn’t sure.

“But…” he paused as if words were lost on him

He stood up and said, almost to himself, “I’ll go to her residence.”

My blood went cold.

“You will?” I stammered, leaning forward. “Isn’t just the opposite of what she just said—”

But he wasn’t listening. He had already stood, adjusting his coat like a man preparing for battle.

Then he paused, his gaze sharpening as if some thought had struck him. He turned to me, voice quiet but firm:

“Do everything you can to prevent her from remembering that night. She must not recall it.”

That night. The night I had arranged, the one I had been the middleman for. If Evelyn pieced it together—if she realized the truth—everything would collapse.

I nodded. “Yes, sir. I’ll make sure of it.”

He left without another word, the sound of the door shutting echoing through the office. The silence that followed pressed against my chest.

But even as I sat back down, my greatest fear clawed at me. My contract was with Miss Evelyn, not him. If she discovered what I really was, who I really answered to… there’d be no mercy. She’d ruin me in ways a termination letter never could.

Fear. That was all that threaded through me now.

  • Secret affair with my alpha’s brother   Its him

Evelyn’s POVI walked up from the underground garage. My phone buzzed twice — the doorbell from the house. Indicating that someone was at my door. I wasn’t expecting anyone this morning so I was curious who it could be.But as I stepped out into the conjoining corridor, the ringing came again. Whoever it was, they weren’t planning on leaving anytime soon.I pressed the intercom. “Yes?”Static crackled on the other end. I frowned and took a step forward, reaching for the handle. And just as I was opening the door, all of a sudden, a throbbing ache shot up my thigh. My leg buckled before I could stop it. The world tilted, my vision blurring as my foot slipped on the floor.I braced for the fall.It never came.A firm arm caught me around the waist, steadying me before I could hit the ground. The warmth that pressed against me was unmistakable. Its firm hold somehow familiar.“Careful,” a deep voice murmured beside my ear. “ the floor can get slippery some times.”My breath caught. I tur

  • Secret affair with my alpha’s brother   I couldn’t face him

Evelyn’s POVThe moment the curtains opened, the room was devoured by light.I recoiled instinctively, the blaze of morning light striking me like a physical blow. My eyes stung as though red hot knives had pierced them. I shut them tight, covering my face with trembling hands. The darkness had been my cocoon, a shield. There, wrapped in shadows, I could pretend and forget my problems. I could tell myself it wasn’t real—that it was just another night, another fleeting escape I would erase come morning. But in the light— In the light there was no escape. The brightness stripped me bare, dragged me mercilessly back to reality. For the first time, it would be possible to see him. Really see him. The face of the man who had kissed me, touched me, consumed me—all while remaining hidden behind the curtain of darkness.I had thought I wanted this. For so long, I’d longed to peel back the mystery, to know the truth. But now, with the sun spilling over his body, with the weight of all my proble

Evelyn’s POVA few moments later, just as I had dismissed Wyatt’s phone, my escort’s phone rang. My body stiffened, my lips parting to tell him to just answer it, to end the ringtone’s distraction that was beginning to annoy me. “Answer it,” I whispered hoarsely, my voice cracking, breath shallow. “Just… answer."But today, he didn’t listen. His palm pressed me back down with a maddening patience, his breath searing against my skin. It wasn’t just desire—it was something heavier, darker.“Not now,” he murmured, tone deep.I wanted to protest, to push him away and force him to pick up the phone, but the words died in my throat as his body shifted, coaxing me into a new position. My breath faltered when I realized what he intended. His mouth on me, my lips parting around him—our bodies aligned in the raw intimacy of a 69.The taste of him filled my mouth, salty and intoxicating, while the heat of his tongue against me sent a shiver through my core. • Secret affair with my alpha’s brother   The dangerous truth

Evelyn’s POVMy phone’s ringtone echoed through the darkened room, cutting through the haze of heat and silence. I stiffened, my hand twitching instinctively toward the nightstand, but before I could reach it, the body beside me pressed against me.His warm and naked skin clung to me, the scent of him from the night before flooding my nose. My breath hitched as I realized what he was getting at.“Now?” I whispered, my voice frayed, almost pleading, but it was too late. He stirred, burying himself deeper against my chest, his breath hot against my collarbone. A subtle shift of his hips and I felt it—the undeniable proof of his arousal pressing against me again, insistent, demanding. My heart lurched in panic. No light filtered in—the heavy curtains had been drawn tight, leaving the room drowned in darkness. There was no escape, no way to pretend this hadn’t happened, no way to dismiss him.The phone rang again, louder, urgent. My pulse thundered in my ears.“You can just answer it,” Ben

  • Secret affair with my alpha’s brother   A night spent together

Evelyn’s POVThe steam from the bathroom still clung to my skin when the hand covered my mouth, and the voice whispered, “Shh…”My whole body tensed—until I caught his scent. Familiar. Intimate. My escort.Relief tangled with something far hotter as he spun me toward him, the towel slipping dangerously from my frame. Intelligently, he had turned the lights off so I didn’t get a good look at him.As expected.“Where were you today?” he demanded, his voice low, laced with suspicion.I blinked, startled. “What?”He leaned closer, his nose brushing against my neck, inhaling deeply. My skin prickled where his breath touched me. “You reek of another wolf.”Heat surged up my throat, equal parts indignation and arousal. His grip tightened, as if the accusation gave him the right to claim. “It’s none of your business,” I replied, forcing seriousness into my tone even as my pulse betrayed me. “I have my own affairs to attend to.”His gaze darkened, and then without another word, he pressed me b

  • Secret affair with my alpha’s brother   To win her back

Evelyn’s POVFor a long while, neither of us spoke. The silence between Wyatt and me felt thick enough to choke on. He stood there, broad-shouldered and impossibly composed, his gaze heavy. I’d seen that look before—years ago—just before he’d chosen his pride over me.So when I finally broke the silence, my voice came out harsher than I intended.“What is it you want to talk about, Wyatt?”He took a breath, the tension in his jaw softening just slightly. “The pack,” he said at last. “I know it still matters to you.”I blinked. “The pack? You came all this way to talk about the pack?” I crossed my arms, my tone cool. “If you must know then it's doing just fine without you.”He winced at that, though he tried to hide it. “I know you don’t want to hear this,” he said, lowering his voice. “But I understand now. I understand that I was wrong.”“Wrong?” I repeated, incredulous. “ Wrong about what?”He stepped closer, and I instinctively took a step back. “I was a fool. I admit it. I let prid
