She has served the country to great extents. When she returns home from Vietnam with medals and valors of honor, she’s taken in by Homeland Security. With the elections coming up for the Presidency of the USA, Alyssa Pope is assigned the position of Director of U.S. Secret Service and a seat in the Oval room. She is to become the president’s shadow and trails. Richard Davis is the head of the Democratic Party and the US President. Married and with his wife expecting a child, Mr. President has to secure a United front to the press even though, his thoughts are occupied by the woman standing outside his door. A secret affair with the President… Alyssa is not ready to face the consequences of their encounters in the oval room when the surveillance cameras are off.

Her hair was pulled back in a sleeker back ponytail and she was dressed in a black tight knee dress with heels. Her eyes were framed behind glasses. But not just regular glasses. The E23 model was the latest development of Homeland Security with face recognition software. She paced down the corridor towards the central hall of the House where the Secretary of Homeland Security expected her to drive to the U.S. Capitol where the inauguration would take place.“I’m ready to go.” She said to the tall grown man in a tuxedo in front of her. He nodded and moved to the exit. She followed and slithered into the limo. Her eyes raked through the paperwork that accompanied her new position. Fortunately, Alyssa had a photographic memory. She could easily memorize most information. The circumstances under which the President was to live the White House were the thing that intrigued her the most and confirmed the statement of him being the most powerful man in the world. When they reached the Capitol, Alyssa jumped out of the car and headed straight for the room where she had been informed the President was getting ready in. She’d thought it was better to introduce herself before the inauguration. Four more men escorted her inside. More were scattered around the platform outside. All at the disposal of the man behind that door. She knocked. A deep and stern voice echoed through the door. “Come in.”Richard Davis was about 6’3 and 47 years old, graduated Harvard Law on a student loan and completed his master in Columbia University where he studied Global Politics. There he met his wife, the First Lady, Katherine Davis, to whom he has been married for almost 8 years. He had served as Senator for the State of California before he decided to run for President. And he won. He stood before a long mirror with his exceptional suit on adjusting the tie around his neck. He had the perfect smile that earned him his office and the confidence of power.“Mr. President, my name is Alyssa Pope as you may already know, Director of U.S. Secret Service.” She extended her hand and he shook it with no hesitation. For a second their eyes met and something clicked in his brain that made the smile falter.“Always a pleasure to meet you Ms Pope but I’m not yet President, not for about…” The watch dangled on his wrist as he shook his hand, “19 minutes.” He exhaled returning to the mirror to fix his tie. Alyssa could see him struggle but yet she stood there unmoving like a ghost, observing the wall across. “Can you help me, please? My hands got sweaty.” He chuckled nervously. He was an attractive man. A powerful man. Alyssa was the babysitter of the most powerful man in the world. She nodded and approached him running her fingers through his tie. She had learnt how to make the perfect tie knot in the navy. She could do it with her eyes closed. In two seconds, she was done. She felt eyes prying on her face and when she raised her eyes, his brown warm gaze pinned her. He cleared his throat and took a step back, “Thank you. You can go.” He blurted out but then not his lip realizing, “You can’t go. Ever. Right?”Alyssa nodded. “I just came here so that we could set off in a more peaceful start. The first few days will be packed with press meetings and inaugural balls, where you will always have to be escorted by me and four other agents. Twenty more will follow in the cars behind us. At all times.”“Ok.” He put on his blazer and closed the two buttons. “Will the Secret Service structure of my personal escort be adaptable?” Richard sleeked his hair back with his fingers.“Depends on what adaptable is defined as, Mr. President.” The title rolling off her tongue made him feel a weird kind way. He enjoyed it. His eyes scanned her. She had the posture of a soldier and the coldness of a marine. And her green eyes looked focused on him behind her glasses. “Most likely not. The number of agents is set. Sometimes, an ambulance will need to follow on our tracks but that is purely up to the individual situation.” Her phone dinged. It was almost time. Five minutes to get him to the platform for his oath.“Honey!” Katherine Davis entered the room heading to hug her husband. He hesitated but returned the hug. “It’s time! Can you believe it?!” Her eyes settled on Alyssa and the smile grew wider. The weapon of every First Lady. “Katherine Davis! Nice to meet you!”“Alyssa Pope. She is the Director of the Secret Service.” Richard interrupted before she could answer. She simply smiled and shook Katherine’s hand.Alyssa was tall. Standing at 5’8 and 37 years old, she was an intimidating figure. Her pulled back dark brown hair cascaded down her back in the ponytail accentuating the sharp angles of her face. Her cheekbones and jawline were sharply carved. She had but one simple on the left side of her smile. She was not conventionally attractive, yet she had something intriguing about herself.“We better go.” Alyssa checked the digital watch on her wrist. “Jayson, is everything in place?” She talked to the earpiece waiting for a reply. ‘Positive.’ His voice came in and she nodded. She looked at the couple and motioned them towards the door. She claimed her seat on the side of the platforms, on the fringes of the party just enough so that she wouldn’t be in the TV picture. Inauguration lasted for about 47 minutes. With poets and intellectuals paying their respects to the new President and reciting some of their work for his honor. It was still pretty early. 10.45 AM and the President with his wife were followed by swarms of press as they were led to the parking where they boarded the presidential limousine. Alyssa was behind them. Jason was their driver. She followed in a black SUV with six other same cars flanking her side. She spoke in the earpiece, “Vehicle 2 stick behind the limousine. I will get in front of the limousine to pave the way for the White House. Vehicle 3 and 4 drive around. The rest of you fill every remaining gap.” She pushed her led against the pedal accelerating and rushed before the limousine. She raced vehicle 1 for the position and reached the place.Shortly, they were in the main entrance of the White House before it’s grandiose column arch. Richard and Katherine Davis walked inside. Their suitcases had already been delivered as with every other asset they may need. Katherine Davis ventured towards the East Wing where the chambers were. She wanted to make the House look ‘warm and cozy’ as she’d said to Richard. The Counselor to the President arrived and escorted him to the Oval Room. Alyssa short on their trails. She closed the door behind them and stood outside the room with her hands evened behind her back. When the counselor exited, he turned to her and told her that he’d ask for her.Her eyebrows furrowed. When she realized, her eyes fell to the ground but her hand moved to the door handle and she entered the room, knowing it would be a mistake.“Ms Pope can you stay behind?” Richard asked of Alyssa as Merlin exited and she was about to follow in his footsteps. She sighed and turned back into the Oval, eyeing Richard and his posture. He looked sad. But not as devastated as a man on the verge of loosing his wife was.“What can I do for you Mr President?” Alyssa questioned remaining glued in her position across from the couches, four feet away from him. She wouldn’t approach. She knew better than to close the distance between them. “I’m sorry I shouted.” He apologized exhaling sharply. “You’re not just my security director. And Merlin was right to call for you.” Richard ran a hand down his face wiping away the anger. His voice was calm and soothing like always.“It’s okay.” Alyssa reassured as he locked eyes with her. “Richard you need Katherine by your side.” Alyssa added to make sure he realized that he should end the fighting as soon as possible. Richard nodded and rounded his desk taking a seat behind it. “I know. I know.”
Alyssa was never a fan of scheming and manipulating but the city of Washington and its notorious residents made her engage in a world of deception and drama. She remembered the days when she served her country in Iran. When life was simple because there were no dilemmas. You simply had to survive, eat and return. There were no second thoughts because war stripped the reason of society away. As she walked down the corridor of the White House, she was just about to enter Merlin’s office when he heard him whispering on the phone. Alyssa stalled and leaned against the wall trying to overhear the conversation. “I do not believe the President has suspected anything. Alyssa wouldn’t dare tell him. She would protect him until the end…” she held her breath before pulling away and rushing towards Erik’s office. If Merlin was the mole, which circumstantial evidence pointed to then, she’d have to inform the rest so they could plan his demise. Erik’s secretary informed her that he had visited the
The day for the family interview had arrived and Katherine, Richard and little William were getting ready for the press. Katherine looked stunning as always in her royal blue tight fitted Chanel dress and Louboutin heels. She was studying the script with the difficult possible questions that may arise in the interview concerning the family’s private life or her husband’s work as a President and her conflict of interest when it comes to supporting something that goes against his policy. Alyssa was walking down the corridor ready to talk with the Press Secretary and inform them that Danielle, their interviewer and the channel, were ready for the Fist Family. “Alyssa, can I have a minute?” Katherine called her from the room she was sitting in. Papers in hands. Alyssa smiled and dismissed the Press Secretary as she entered the room.“Of course madame. What is it?” Alyssa approached her on the couch. She saw her expression turn into one of concern and doubt. “Is there a question you wish
Alyssa and Richard put their clothes on as they looked at each other with a small smile playing on their lips. Alyssa chuckled shaking her head in disbelief. Richard bit his lower lip to contain the wide smile that formed on his face hearing her chuckle. “You’re enjoying this?!” Alyssa playfully asked him as she put on her heels. One heel on, she bent on her side to put the other on. Richard took a step towards her and wrapped his arm around her waist. “I missed that smile.” He said to her warmly and Alyssa averted her eyes from his.“You’re giving me hope.” Alyssa exhaled sharply running her hands through her hair. “That’s because you’re trying so desperately to deny it.” Richard smirked and pulled her closer hugging her tightly. Her head rested against his chest as he stroked her hair, “there is hope Aly. I haven’t given up on us. I will never give up.” He whispered and it felt as if for a second the glimpse of this dream was true. That they could be together in the real world.“Yo
ALYSSA’s POV:The dinner with the Secretary of Defense went well. The man is very kind and actually has a plan to make the US a safer country. He’s very informed on the matter of the Second Amendment and the right to gun ownership whilst also acknowledging his responsibility as a public servant to protect the citizens and the children. I was pleasantly surprised by his responses to my questions and his knowledgeability. I paid for dinner to which he fought me restlessly but I insisted since he paid for our pre dinner drinks we had at the bar as our table was prepared. “See you in the White House.” I saluted him jokingly and exited the restaurant to head towards my car. I settled into the driver’s seat and took out my phone. It had dinged multiple times during dinner and I put it on silent mode. There were messages from Richard. He was expecting me. My reason told me to cancel. To let him wait there until he was too tired to wait more. But my hands gripped the steering wheel and I pr
Alyssa drove alone to the Pentagon without her agents. She was the last to arrive. Her connections there had informed her that the three men were already there and expecting. She smirked and entered the building. Her heart was pacing. They hadn’t been all four of them in the same room for quite some time. They didn’t think they would be. But tables turn and it seems that fate had come for their heads. She took the elevator down to the underground bankers where they’d decide to meet. The location was untraceable. These bankers would hide and protect the Cabinet and the President in case of an emergency. “Hello gentlemen.” Alyssa greeted them entering the banker. Their heads turned as she walked in and all eyes were on the tall slim woman rounding the long table where they sat. She sat on the head of the table and smiled faintly.“It is unfortunate that we meet again.” Alyssa says and Merlin chuckled locking eyes with her. Erik is sitting across from Merlin on her left and Theodore is n
