Chapter 51 - A Painful Goodbye

My mind was struggling to comprehend what was happening in front of me.

I kneel on the floor, my hands flat out before me on the ground. I had no recollection of how I managed to break free of my cuffs. I could only assume that the fiery blast had freed me from their confines.

A gentle drizzle had began to fall from the dark sky, clouds gathering in, and a sense of mourning filled the quite courtyard.

Smoke danced all around us like a mist that wouldn’t dissipate, the smell of burnt flesh and fat stung my eyes and nose as charred bodies and piles of ash lay littered about the floor like some horrific horror movie scene. The only body which remained untouched was that of Lucas. I wasn’t sure how he had managed to survive the blast unscathed, yet he had. I assume our bond had protected him.

I crawl towards his lifeless body on my hands and knees. Tears still streaming down my face.
