Chapter Nineteen

Reiner's pov

Listening to Barrett gave me an understanding of why Myla was so strong and so independent. She hadn't been given a choice.

"Barrett, I would love to meet your father some time."

"I wish I could let you, but he died a few years ago," Barrett explained.

"I'm sorry for your loss, you must have been devastated." How much loss had they dealt with?

"Yes, I was devastated, but Myla was lost." Barrett looked down sadly. "She made us all do laps from sun up to sun down until I finally told her everyone was going to run away if she didn’t give them a break. She finally did but, she didn’t give herself one. I would wake up and she would be out there running, I would go to bed, same thing. This went on for a few days before I finally made her talk. I felt horrible but, she needed to talk to someone. It was the biggest fight we had ever had. I literally had to pin her down while she fought me until she broke from exhaustion. She screamed at nothing one last time then the tears just b
