Besides endless labor, her blood was drained to cure her stepsister’s strange illness. When rogues threatened their pack, her father made the cruelest choice: he offered Liora to the monstrous Lycan King, Cassian Veyraith. A man whispered to take pleasure in death. Dragged to King's bed, naked and trembling, Liora braced herself for death. However, the moment Cassian's eyes met hers, she realized nothing was as it seemed…

And I was late. Again! The morning air smelled faintly of baking bread as I ran down the hall, bracing myself for punishment. Despite the fatigue of yesterday’s session, I had to report to my duty on time. The kitchen doors swung open with a groan. I nearly collided with Beatrice, my stepsister. Her arms were crossed, a sharp smile tugging at her lips that never reached her eyes. “Have you seen the time?” She said with mocked sweetness. “You were supposed to be here an hour ago.” Shoot! Beatrice caught me red-handed, ringing ominous bells in my head. She never missed a chance to push me into trouble. My chest heaved as I picked a dirty pot from the slab to wash it, trying to please her with my obedience. But Beatrice wasn’t satisfied. She snapped her fingers near my ears. “Hello? Did you lose your hearing too, dumb mute?” Clenching my fists, I could only look at her as the Moon Goddess took my ability to speak when I was young. It was like she had some personal agenda against me. She first took my mom, and then my voice, making me a maid in my own home! Suppressing my unease, I signed the truth with trembling fingers. “I overslept because of fatigue. Yesterday, the doctors had taken my blood.” Beatrice raised her brow and laughed as if I had told her a joke. “Of course. You are always the noble little mute, giving blood to save my life. But remember, you’d be nothing without me reminding everyone of your use.” Heat prickled behind my eyes, but I dropped my gaze to the floorboards. Beatrice wasn’t wrong. The blood I gave her was the only reason I could live in the safety of this pack. After my mom’s death, my stepmother would have kicked me out if Beatrice wasn’t born with sickness. The doctors prepared a special medicine for her that needed my blood for its effectiveness. I still remembered the softness of my dad’s tone when he asked me. “Your baby sister needs you, Liora. Won’t you do it for your family?” Hoping for my dad’s love, I have given my blood once a week since then. But it cost me my health. For a normal werewolf, this blood transfusion wouldn’t be a problem, but it was a life-and-death matter for a wolf-less omega like me. Not to mention, the doctors had started draining more blood after my eighteenth birthday, claiming Beatrice was critically ill. A sudden dizziness washed over me, unsteadying my steps. I leaned against the counter, breathing heavily. After the blood transfusion, I always felt dizzy and weak for hours. That was the reason I got late for work the next day every time. Beatrice’s lips curved in satisfaction as her gaze swept over me. She twisted a strand of her pale hair around her finger and tilted her head. “Did you notice how beautiful I have become lately, dumb mute?” Of course, she glowed. Beatrice wore my blood on her skin while I worked twelve hours in the kitchen for stale pieces of bread. She leaned closer, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. “Do you want to know a secret?” I lifted my hands reluctantly to sign. What? Her smile widened. “You know, dumb mute. I recovered long ago. But when I found that your blood can make me look radiant, I asked the doctors to drain more blood for me.” Goddess! I-I was suffering because she wanted to... look beautiful? Beatrice’s eyes glittered cruelly as she spat out how she always hated my face. Then she went on, slow as molasses. “You know what I hate the most? Your mother! If she wasn’t here, my mother would be the first one to get pregnant. She would be Luna of the Ember Howl Pack.” Her audacity to blame my mom after draining my blood set me on fire, making me forget the long practice of obedience and endurance. I wanted to swing the pot at her head to shatter the smug mask on her face. But just as I grabbed the handle, the head maid, Nora, interrupted us. “Greetings, Beatrice!” She bowed and then addressed the staff. “All the maids must be extra careful today. Our Alpha is receiving important guests.” Then she ordered me. “Liora, serve the wine to the Alpha’s office. Now!” Among all the people here, Nora was the only wolf who treated me properly. She handed me the tray with a bottle of wine and two glasses, sending me away. I threw one last glare at Beatrice and stomped out of the kitchen, my insides still ablaze with fury. It was impossible to stay calm after learning the ugly truth. Fuming, I reached the Alpha’s office at the end of the second floor and knocked at the door. But just as I strode in, the sight before my eyes stunned me. Instead of my dad, a handsome man in a dark tailored suit was sitting in his chair, engrossed in a file. His dominating aura screamed danger, clenching my stomach. He raised his ocean-blue eyes and frowned, observing me with his burning gaze. The shadows of fury on that Greek god’s face shook me to the core, and I bowed, properly showing respect. Then, with trembling hands, I placed the tray on the table, every speck of my existence urging me to run away to avoid any blunder. However, just as I turned to leave, his Alpha command cemented my feet on the ground. “Stop!”Liora’s P.O.V.I had never faced any problem while communicating with anyone, because nobody wanted to talk to me. But now I have to be creative for my husband. Being a mute couldn’t stop me from having a smooth conversation with him. As plenty of time would be wasted typing a response, I came prepared, writing down everything on papers. So, I handed him my two-page-long apology letter next, my hands trembling slightly as our fingers brushed. Cassian took it without a word and settled back on the bench, the moonlight catching the sharp planes of his face. He unfolded the papers and started reading. Minutes stretched into silence, broken only by the rustles of papers and night wind through the trees. My heart thumped in my chest, every beat loud enough to drown out the crickets. After what felt like a century, he finally exhaled.“You don’t know anything about lycans,” he said quietly, almost to himself. Then his gaze lifted, meeting mine.“Let me tell you about us!”What did the l
Liora’s P.O.V.Only me?How could that be true?I blinked at Stacy, unable to accept her words. Her statement made no sense to me whatsoever. My fingers moved before I could stop them, signing quickly, almost desperately. “Men can’t love only one woman. They aren’t made that way. I have seen it… heard it… lived it.”Stacy’s brows pulled together, confused. “What are you talking about, Liora?”I signed faster, my chest tightening with memories I wished I never had. “My father, Alpha Magnus, cheated on my mother, even though she was his fated mate. He had two women in his life.Everyone says that’s how men are. They get bored easily. They always want more.”My throat felt tight, my hands trembling as I added. “And the kings, they have harems. When I was sent to the king’s room, the maids told me how royals had large harems just because they’re powerful. Then why would Cassian be different? He has a unique taste in women, but it doesn’t mean he will only love me for the rest of his l
Liora’s P.O.V.What?Alpha Magnus? And here?My heart slammed against my ribs, making me realize the seriousness of the situation. Cassian straightened slowly, the warmth of his palm vanished as he withdrew his hand from mine, the grief in his voice shuttering behind the mask of ice and authority.“How long?” He asked, his voice low and lethal.“Not long.” Damon answered solemnly.“Alpha Magnus has started the preparations after your royal decree. He is already reaching out to the alliances that are already scheming against you. We have begun alerting spies in those regions to track who responds.”A sharp, heavy silence fell between them. Cassian didn’t move or speak, the air thickening around him with alpha power, tension so heavy it pressed against my skin. Finally, he exhaled, his voice cutting through the room like a blade. “Prepare for the attack!”He ordered icily. “Mobilize the elite warriors from the capital. I will lead the army myself.”My breath snagged as his words hit
Liora’s P.O.V.When my eyes finally slit open, the world was washed into the soft colors of the setting sun, soft gold splitting through the cabin window in trembling bands. For a beat, I couldn’t get where I was.The air smelled faintly of herbs and smoke, and my body felt strangely heavy, as if I had been drifting underwater for days. Blinking hard, I tried to look around and found myself in my room. But the strange thing was, Stacy wasn’t there! She was always the first one I saw after waking up from the blackouts. Instead, a woman with white hair sat beside me, a gentle face lined with age and kindness. I didn’t know her name, but there was something familiar about her, like the softness of her gaze. It was like I had seen her somewhere. When she noticed I was awake, her expression warmed like a lantern's light. “You are awake, Liora.” She said softly.“That is very good. I will inform the king.” Then she leaned closer.“How are you feeling, child?”My throat felt dry, making i
Cassian’s P.O.V. I left the circle of the healers and rogues behind without a word, my body moving before thoughts could catch up. Every step towards Liora's cabin throbbed with resolve. “I am marking her tonight!” This much waiting was enough, pretending that distance would somehow keep her safe. But time had proved me wrong. I should have listened to my feral side and marked her long ago. My pulse hammered in my ears as I shoved the cabin door open, soft enough to not wake her up. However, the moment I stepped inside her room, the sight before my eyes halted me in my tracks. An old woman with white hair sat beside Liora’s bed, her back straight despite her age. Her fingers rested slightly on Liora’s wrist, the practiced touch of someone checking a pulse. As she didn't flinch or show any reaction at my entrance, it was certain that she wasn’t a threat to my mate. So, I asked her coldly. “Who are you? Explain yourself!” She simply lifted her head and met my gaze with calm a
Cassian’s P.O.V.“We… we don’t know yet.”The healer stammered. His feet left the ground as I lifted him, my fingers tightening just enough to make his eyes bulge out with fear.“You don’t know?”I snarled, my voice shaking with barely controlled rage. “You expect me to accept that? She was fine an hour ago. Fine! Now, she is coughing blood. Give me the answer.”The other healers backed away, trembling in fear as the room felt too small for the storm inside me. After a moment, the healer in my grip wheezed, trying to force his words outwards.“Your Majesty, Stacy…”“Stacy? What about her?”I growled, giving him barely enough air. He choked out.“Stacy came to inform us. She found Liora… collapsed, coughing blood. It happened after we gave her the evening medicine.”My grip tightened without meaning to, as my gaze snapped to the bowl on the table with the remnants of the tonic they had prepared. That healer clawed at my wrist.“I have given her the injection. Liora’s condition is bet
