LOGINLiora’s P.O.V.
I-I was offered to the Lycan King? Though the room had fallen into silence, that command kept echoing, a haunting refrain I couldn’t stop. My heart lurched as I glanced at my father, hoping what I had heard wasn’t true. But his hard gaze left no room for doubt! The shock burned away, replaced by suffocating dread that curled around me like chains. Whispers I had overheard in the pack came rushing back, each one sharper than the dagger. It was known that the Lycan King, Cassian Veyraith, was ugly beyond bearing, with a face said to terrify even the battle-hardened warriors. He was a monster who killed for fun and smiled while shedding blood. My chest tightened as being at his side wasn’t living but walking willingly into the death trap. Wolves spoke of punishment that left scars on body and soul. But the lycans were ten times more merciless! So, if the wolves feared Cassian’s wrath, then what chances did a mute maid like me have? I shook my head desperately as my lips parted in a soundless protest, my eyes stinging with tears. If King Cassian discovered that the Alpha of the Ember Howl Pack was offering him nothing more than a defective maid, his fury would fall on me first. He would definitely crush me like an insect before turning his wrath on the pack. So, if Dad truly wanted to show sincerity, he should send Beatrice, the flawless beauty of this house. My hands trembled, but I lifted them, my fingers flying in sharp motions. “Offer Beatrice!” The words were silent, but they struck like thunder. Dad’s dark eyes narrowed as he leaned back in his chair, the picture of calm Alpha authority. But I could see the dangerous flicker of fury etched in the lines of his face as his cold voice sliced through me. “Beatrice? She has a wolf, Liora. She can speak.” Praising his perfect daughter’s qualities, he counted my shortcomings, crushing my heart with venomous truth. “Even if I keep you here, you will never find your mate or anyone who wants you. Isn’t it better to be a king’s bedwarmer rather than working as a maid?” My blood froze in my lungs as, for a moment, I couldn’t believe my ears. After my mom’s death, I had longed for my father’s love, literally bleeding for his golden child in the hope that he might finally look at me with approval. But it turned out that I was nothing more than trash to be disposed of in his eyes. His cruel smile ached my chest. “You can take Beatrice’s place, Liora. King Cassian won’t question it as well. After all, voice isn’t necessary in bed.” Thalia’s thin laugh rang out, feeding the venom in the room. My stomach churned as he chuckled darkly. “You just need to let him enjoy your body, Liora. Once he is satisfied, he will surely help us.” His cruel words dug deeper into me than claws ever could. My father, no, Alpha Magnus didn’t see me as his daughter. I was just body to bargain away for him. My hands were limp, but I forced them to move, my fingers spelling the words I was screaming inside. “I am your blood. Your Luna’s daughter!” But that reminder cracked like a whip through the office. Thalia was the first one to react as her face twisted, the carefully painted beauty unable to hide the venom inside it. “Blood?” She spat, her voice dripping with loathing. “Don’t you dare mention that whore. The only reason you exist here is that she was Magnus’s fated mate. That’s all!” The echo of her shrill voice split through me like a silver blade, burning me as a whole. The pain in my heart pulsed into my bones as Thalia proceeded with her former statement icily. “After she died, I was the one who took you in. I allowed you to live under this roof, Liora.” She straightened, her tone turning sharp, as if letting me stay at my own home was some grand act of generosity. “Don’t forget I let you work here as a maid and give you food. I could have kicked you out or banished you as a rogue. But no. I let you live here safely. Shouldn’t you be thankful? Isn’t it great that you got a chance to be useful to us?” Rogue? Favor? The sting in my chest hardened, burning hotter until it clawed into anger. My blood boiled, rage rising sharp and wild, drowning out the ache that had hollowed me moments before. It wasn’t Thalia’s mercy that I lived here. This Ember Howl Pack belonged to my mother. She was an Alpha’s daughter, a Luna before she ever found her Alpha mate. But my mom was dead. I was five when the light left her eyes, making me wonder why she felt colder all of a sudden. I cried, screamed, and yearned for my beloved mom. But they snatched her from my side, and within a few days, Alpha Magnus married Thalia. He used the excuse of my well-being for marriage, but the day Thalia stepped into this house with her fake smile, he stopped looking at me as his daughter. Although I became mute after losing my mom, he left me at Thalia’s mercy and simply took over the pack, never caring whether I lived or died. Shaking with fury, I could only glare hard at them while my throat tightened with silent screams. My hands ached to tear that smile off Thalia’s painted face, but I was helpless in front of her authority. A single gesture of protest would give her a chance to skin me alive. Chuckling amusedly, Thalia stood up and walked closer, leaning forward. I felt her breath cold on my cheek as her voice dropped to a velvet hiss meant only for me. “Nobody cares about you, Liora. But I will remember your sacrifice for the pack.” She paused, savoring my helplessness. “If King Cassian is kind enough to return your dead body, we will bury you next to your mother. You will meet her in hell soon.”Liora’s P.O.V.The letter trembled in my hands before I even realized I was shaking.I unfolded the page immediately, my pulse drumming against my ribs so loudly it felt as though Grandma and Gavin could hear it.“How are yous doing, Liora? Gosh, we haven’t met in ages. When will you come to see me, Liora?”A breath slipped out of me, half laugh, half ache.“Typical Stacy. Still terrible at grammar,” I murmured under my breath, though warmth bloomed in my chest. My eyes moved further down the page.“Don’t you dare tell me I will come soon. I won’t buy it. Now I want a specific date and time.”I actually chuckled at that, earning a curious glance from Gavin.“And you know, I deserve this meeting now. You didn’t even attend any significant events in my life.”My fingers tightened on the paper. A thin line of guilt carved through me, sharp and familiar. I lowered my gaze, whispering to the ink as though she could hear me through it.“You know my issues, Stacy. Why don’t you come to see m
Liora’s P.O.V.I cleaned the living room for the third time today. The third! And somehow, it looked like a storm had passed through it again! My patience cracked along with the fragile vase someone had knocked sideways on the table. I groaned, dragging the mop harder across the marble floor than necessary. “What have I done to deserve this?”The words echoed around the high ceilings, dramatic and useless. When I finally gave up, I shoved the mop back into the bucket and lifted it, water sloshing dangerously close to the rim. My arms ached. Or maybe that was just my pride.Grandma appeared in front of me as if she’d been summoned by my suffering alone.“What happened, Sweety?” She asked, her silver brows knitting together. “Why are you so worked up?”I huffed. “See, Grandma? The living room is messed up again. I just cleaned it an hour ago. Now I have to start all over.”She laughed softly, the kind of laugh that carried more patience than the entire house combined, and gently took t
Cassian’s P.O.V.“Liora?”Scarlett’s breath hitched sharply. Her eyes widened as though I had spoken the name of a forbidden deity.“You still remember her?” She whispered in disbelief. “It’s been five years, Cassian. How can you even love her after so long?”A low, dangerous growl rumbled from my chest before I could stop it.My lycan stirred violently beneath my skin, claws scraping against bone, fury simmering in his veins.“What do you mean by that?” I asked, my voice dropping several degrees colder. “Of course I love her. She is my mate.”Scarlett shook her head slowly, as if I were the delusional one.“She ‘was’ your mate, Cassian,” she corrected, her tone hardening. “She rejected you.”The word struck like a blade dragged across an old scar.Rejected.Even after five years, it burned.Scarlett continued relentlessly. “Liora rejected you over nothing. She left you alone without any notice, walking away from her responsibilities.”Each accusation felt like salt rubbed into wounds
Cassian’s P.O.V. The kingdom called it peace. I called it a punishment! The palace has never been brighter. Golden chandeliers blaze above the grand hall, their light scattering like stars across polished marble floors. Music swelled, goblets clashed, and nobles laughed too loudly. Five years. Five years since the treaty bound lycans and vampires under the peace treaty. Five years since the night everything that mattered to me was torn away. Everyone celebrated victory, but I sat on a throne that felt like a cage. Below me, generals and nobles bowed their heads, offering congratulations. Their words reach my ears but never my heart. Because beside me, there was nothing, but an empty throne draped in red silk. Her throne! The place where Liora should have been sitting tonight, her eyes glowing like moonlight over steel. She was meant to rule beside me as the queen of the united supernatural world. However, ... My fingers curled over the armrest as applause erupted in the ha
Liora’s P.O.V.Cassian had left hours ago, or maybe minutes. Time felt meaningless as I sat still on the edge of the bed. His voice replayed in my head like a curse.“I am the king here!”I let out a hollow laugh and wrapped my arms around myself, my fingers digging into my sleeves. “Of course, you are.” Cassian was the king, and I was just a fallen queen without bond, a wife without marriage, and a she-wolf whose wolf had disappeared in the darkness. My shoulders began to shake as I fell on the bed, staring at the ceiling blankly. “You just can’t leave me alone, even after your death, Alpha Magnus.”His name tasted like ash to my tongue. The man, who had killed my mother, the one who signed papers and handed me over like a political offering. My heart trembled as a glimpse of my future life in this beautifully decorated cage flashed across my mind. I would have to sit in the harem meetings and pretend nothing shattered. As a high consort, I would have to approve wedding decoratio
Liora’s P.O.V.The moment the bond burned, the world didn’t go silent. It exploded!I collapsed onto the cold stone floor, my palms against it as my body gave up on holding itself upright. The air refused to fill my lungs. I gasped, choking on something invisible and brutal as pain shattered through my chest like glass breaking from the inside. My wolf let out one last cry and then disappeared in the darkness, leaving me alone as the pain tore my soul apart. “Liora...” Cassian’s voice cut through the haze, rough with agony. “What have you done?”He struggled to stand, enduring the pain of separation. His lycan growled hoarsely. “It’ll anger your goddess. You broke the bond using your gift. That’s abuse of power.”That realization slithered through me even as my vision blurred. The Moon Goddess wouldn’t ignore that I had used what was meant to protect, to heal, and to shield. But I didn’t regret it!Not even when pain intensified, crawling up my spine and settling like molten iron in
