LOGINLiora’s P.O.V.
I-I was offered to the Lycan King? Though the room had fallen into silence, that command kept echoing, a haunting refrain I couldn’t stop. My heart lurched as I glanced at my father, hoping what I had heard wasn’t true. But his hard gaze left no room for doubt! The shock burned away, replaced by suffocating dread that curled around me like chains. Whispers I had overheard in the pack came rushing back, each one sharper than the dagger. It was known that the Lycan King, Cassian Veyraith, was ugly beyond bearing, with a face said to terrify even the battle-hardened warriors. He was a monster who killed for fun and smiled while shedding blood. My chest tightened as being at his side wasn’t living but walking willingly into the death trap. Wolves spoke of punishment that left scars on body and soul. But the lycans were ten times more merciless! So, if the wolves feared Cassian’s wrath, then what chances did a mute maid like me have? I shook my head desperately as my lips parted in a soundless protest, my eyes stinging with tears. If King Cassian discovered that the Alpha of the Ember Howl Pack was offering him nothing more than a defective maid, his fury would fall on me first. He would definitely crush me like an insect before turning his wrath on the pack. So, if Dad truly wanted to show sincerity, he should send Beatrice, the flawless beauty of this house. My hands trembled, but I lifted them, my fingers flying in sharp motions. “Offer Beatrice!” The words were silent, but they struck like thunder. Dad’s dark eyes narrowed as he leaned back in his chair, the picture of calm Alpha authority. But I could see the dangerous flicker of fury etched in the lines of his face as his cold voice sliced through me. “Beatrice? She has a wolf, Liora. She can speak.” Praising his perfect daughter’s qualities, he counted my shortcomings, crushing my heart with venomous truth. “Even if I keep you here, you will never find your mate or anyone who wants you. Isn’t it better to be a king’s bedwarmer rather than working as a maid?” My blood froze in my lungs as, for a moment, I couldn’t believe my ears. After my mom’s death, I had longed for my father’s love, literally bleeding for his golden child in the hope that he might finally look at me with approval. But it turned out that I was nothing more than trash to be disposed of in his eyes. His cruel smile ached my chest. “You can take Beatrice’s place, Liora. King Cassian won’t question it as well. After all, voice isn’t necessary in bed.” Thalia’s thin laugh rang out, feeding the venom in the room. My stomach churned as he chuckled darkly. “You just need to let him enjoy your body, Liora. Once he is satisfied, he will surely help us.” His cruel words dug deeper into me than claws ever could. My father, no, Alpha Magnus didn’t see me as his daughter. I was just body to bargain away for him. My hands were limp, but I forced them to move, my fingers spelling the words I was screaming inside. “I am your blood. Your Luna’s daughter!” But that reminder cracked like a whip through the office. Thalia was the first one to react as her face twisted, the carefully painted beauty unable to hide the venom inside it. “Blood?” She spat, her voice dripping with loathing. “Don’t you dare mention that whore. The only reason you exist here is that she was Magnus’s fated mate. That’s all!” The echo of her shrill voice split through me like a silver blade, burning me as a whole. The pain in my heart pulsed into my bones as Thalia proceeded with her former statement icily. “After she died, I was the one who took you in. I allowed you to live under this roof, Liora.” She straightened, her tone turning sharp, as if letting me stay at my own home was some grand act of generosity. “Don’t forget I let you work here as a maid and give you food. I could have kicked you out or banished you as a rogue. But no. I let you live here safely. Shouldn’t you be thankful? Isn’t it great that you got a chance to be useful to us?” Rogue? Favor? The sting in my chest hardened, burning hotter until it clawed into anger. My blood boiled, rage rising sharp and wild, drowning out the ache that had hollowed me moments before. It wasn’t Thalia’s mercy that I lived here. This Ember Howl Pack belonged to my mother. She was an Alpha’s daughter, a Luna before she ever found her Alpha mate. But my mom was dead. I was five when the light left her eyes, making me wonder why she felt colder all of a sudden. I cried, screamed, and yearned for my beloved mom. But they snatched her from my side, and within a few days, Alpha Magnus married Thalia. He used the excuse of my well-being for marriage, but the day Thalia stepped into this house with her fake smile, he stopped looking at me as his daughter. Although I became mute after losing my mom, he left me at Thalia’s mercy and simply took over the pack, never caring whether I lived or died. Shaking with fury, I could only glare hard at them while my throat tightened with silent screams. My hands ached to tear that smile off Thalia’s painted face, but I was helpless in front of her authority. A single gesture of protest would give her a chance to skin me alive. Chuckling amusedly, Thalia stood up and walked closer, leaning forward. I felt her breath cold on my cheek as her voice dropped to a velvet hiss meant only for me. “Nobody cares about you, Liora. But I will remember your sacrifice for the pack.” She paused, savoring my helplessness. “If King Cassian is kind enough to return your dead body, we will bury you next to your mother. You will meet her in hell soon.”Liora’s P.O.V.For a second, everything inside me… just stopped. The world around me blurred: the trees, the night air, even the warm coffee cup that was sitting abandoned on the bench. Cassian’s words echoed in my head, heavy with emotions. He learned sign language! Only for me!Another shock slammed into my heart, too strong for me to endure. My chest tightened painfully, and I lifted a trembling hand to clutch the fiber over my heart, trying to control the rapid, frantic beating. My breath hitched, shallow and uneven, catching Cassian’s attention. He reached out and steadied my shoulders, speaking with concern.“Liora! Hey, hey, look at me!”But I wasn’t listening to him. My legs wobbled, and before I could sink into the ground, he guided me to the bench, lowering me carefully until I was seated. His warm hands stayed on my shoulders, grounding me.“Relax!” Cassian whispered, sitting by my side.“Breathe. It’s fine. Just breathe. I am here.”I sucked in a shaky breath, then ano
Liora’s P.O.V.I had never faced any problem while communicating with anyone, because nobody wanted to talk to me. But now I have to be creative for my husband. Being a mute couldn’t stop me from having a smooth conversation with him. As plenty of time would be wasted typing a response, I came prepared, writing down everything on papers. So, I handed him my two-page-long apology letter next, my hands trembling slightly as our fingers brushed. Cassian took it without a word and settled back on the bench, the moonlight catching the sharp planes of his face. He unfolded the papers and started reading. Minutes stretched into silence, broken only by the rustles of papers and night wind through the trees. My heart thumped in my chest, every beat loud enough to drown out the crickets. After what felt like a century, he finally exhaled.“You don’t know anything about lycans,” he said quietly, almost to himself. Then his gaze lifted, meeting mine.“Let me tell you about us!”What did the l
Liora’s P.O.V.Only me?How could that be true?I blinked at Stacy, unable to accept her words. Her statement made no sense to me whatsoever. My fingers moved before I could stop them, signing quickly, almost desperately. “Men can’t love only one woman. They aren’t made that way. I have seen it… heard it… lived it.”Stacy’s brows pulled together, confused. “What are you talking about, Liora?”I signed faster, my chest tightening with memories I wished I never had. “My father, Alpha Magnus, cheated on my mother, even though she was his fated mate. He had two women in his life.Everyone says that’s how men are. They get bored easily. They always want more.”My throat felt tight, my hands trembling as I added. “And the kings, they have harems. When I was sent to the king’s room, the maids told me how royals had large harems just because they’re powerful. Then why would Cassian be different? He has a unique taste in women, but it doesn’t mean he will only love me for the rest of his l
Liora’s P.O.V.What?Alpha Magnus? And here?My heart slammed against my ribs, making me realize the seriousness of the situation. Cassian straightened slowly, the warmth of his palm vanished as he withdrew his hand from mine, the grief in his voice shuttering behind the mask of ice and authority.“How long?” He asked, his voice low and lethal.“Not long.” Damon answered solemnly.“Alpha Magnus has started the preparations after your royal decree. He is already reaching out to the alliances that are already scheming against you. We have begun alerting spies in those regions to track who responds.”A sharp, heavy silence fell between them. Cassian didn’t move or speak, the air thickening around him with alpha power, tension so heavy it pressed against my skin. Finally, he exhaled, his voice cutting through the room like a blade. “Prepare for the attack!”He ordered icily. “Mobilize the elite warriors from the capital. I will lead the army myself.”My breath snagged as his words hit
Liora’s P.O.V.When my eyes finally slit open, the world was washed into the soft colors of the setting sun, soft gold splitting through the cabin window in trembling bands. For a beat, I couldn’t get where I was.The air smelled faintly of herbs and smoke, and my body felt strangely heavy, as if I had been drifting underwater for days. Blinking hard, I tried to look around and found myself in my room. But the strange thing was, Stacy wasn’t there! She was always the first one I saw after waking up from the blackouts. Instead, a woman with white hair sat beside me, a gentle face lined with age and kindness. I didn’t know her name, but there was something familiar about her, like the softness of her gaze. It was like I had seen her somewhere. When she noticed I was awake, her expression warmed like a lantern's light. “You are awake, Liora.” She said softly.“That is very good. I will inform the king.” Then she leaned closer.“How are you feeling, child?”My throat felt dry, making i
Cassian’s P.O.V. I left the circle of the healers and rogues behind without a word, my body moving before thoughts could catch up. Every step towards Liora's cabin throbbed with resolve. “I am marking her tonight!” This much waiting was enough, pretending that distance would somehow keep her safe. But time had proved me wrong. I should have listened to my feral side and marked her long ago. My pulse hammered in my ears as I shoved the cabin door open, soft enough to not wake her up. However, the moment I stepped inside her room, the sight before my eyes halted me in my tracks. An old woman with white hair sat beside Liora’s bed, her back straight despite her age. Her fingers rested slightly on Liora’s wrist, the practiced touch of someone checking a pulse. As she didn't flinch or show any reaction at my entrance, it was certain that she wasn’t a threat to my mate. So, I asked her coldly. “Who are you? Explain yourself!” She simply lifted her head and met my gaze with calm a
