Chapter 8

Andrea ran to help her up.

Aurora avoided the impertinent stares at her and she tried not to make it obvious even when the pain below her abdomen was hurting so much.

The men bursted out laughing after the short silence.

However it was not so for Luca Genovese.The way he was staring at her told her that he was suspicious.

"Looks like the Don got a weak chic for himself" one of them joked.

Leo came down the stairs.He had successfully distracted his mother.

He saw that his wife was holding on to Aurora.

He nodded as he came down the last of the stairs.

"Show her to her room,Andrea"

"No." Luca stopped them "Take her to the dog's cage"

Leo's mouth dropped opened,even Andrea was surprised.

And to think he was humiliating her in front of his friends.

Although,Aurora didn't mind.She really wouldn't feel comfortable staying in a place where everyone hated her.

Say except for the beautiful lady who helped her up and the man who seemed to be supporting her all the time.

"The dog cage??" Leo said in disgust "Luca,the cage is situated at the back of the house."

"It's cold out there"

Luca shot him a look.

"Did I say I need any detail about the cage?" came his retortion "Or do you rather want to stay there with her so you can cuddle her all night??"

Leo looked away.

"Hey, Eddy" he called for his men "Take her there"

Eddy pulled her out of Andrea's grip.

Aurora snatched her arm away.

"Don't touch me." she glared at him "I'll go willingly!"

And out they went to the cage.

It was big.Easy to guess the large dog that must have lived there.

The floor of the cage was tiled which would make it even more colder.

Aurora watched him lock her in.

She held his hand, stopping him from leaving.

"What happened to the dog who used to live here?"

Eddy wriggled his hand free.

"He went for treatment" he answered, slightly bewildered that she wasn't the least annoyed for having to stay in a dog's cage.

"Oh" she exclaimed and Eddy began to leave "Good night,sir!" she called as his shadow disappeared in the dark.

Aurora let out a painful sigh as she rested her back on the thin frame of the cage.

"Ah.." she whispered as she placed her palm on her belly.

It still hurt.

First thing tomorrow she'd have to rush to the hospital and check her foetus.

Nothing must happen to her child.

Just then,her stomach made a loud noise.

She heaved a sigh again.She hadn't had anything since that morning.

"Don't worry,babe" she spoke to her belly "Everything will be fine"

The next morning.

Aurora had barely slept at dawn when her phone made a loud noise.

She picked it still feeling sleepy.

"Yes?"

"Aurora!!" Amber's loud voice woke her up completely.

"I'm sorry I left yesterday without informing you!" she began to explain "The thing is those bodyguards were pretty frightening!"

"I didn't want them to bruise my sweet skin so I obeyed and left!"

"Amber.. it's too early in the morning"

"Morning?" Amber's voice held a tone of surprise "Aurora, it's nine on the dot.What are you still doing??"

Aurora heard her gasp.

"Or could it be you had it with him all night!!" she became giddy with excitement,all for nothing.

Aurora was fully awake now.She frowned.

"It's nothing like that." her voice sounded dull "You can joke about anything Amber but not that"

Amber noticed that her best friend was serious.

"By the way..where are you?" she changed the subject

"In the dog cage" she answered honestly.

Amber cleared her throat.

"You said what??"

Aurora sighed

"Seriously,Amber I'm in no mood to discuss about him.Whatever he does will not bother me." she said lackadaisically

"As far as he remains in his lane we'll have no problem"

"Did he seriously place you in a dog's cage?!!" Amber still felt surprised by such inhumane action.

"Could you see if Mr Russel is at the office?" Aurora changed the subject

"Oh,yes" answered Amber "He came in a while ago and asked of you"

"Really??! Oh my god!! Was he mad??"

"C'mon Aurora,Mr Russel can never be mad at you!" she laughed "Just get here quick I'll be leaving soon for my lecture"

"Take care!" she called before ending the call.

"Shit!" Aurora mumbled under her breath as she craned her neck to see if Eddy was coming.She needed to leave soon.

After she dropped out of school for her mother's hospital bills,she started doing menial jobs at the hospital.

To think it was already past nine she was way too late.

Her stomach grumbled as a way of announcing it's pain.

Just when she was patting her belly and speaking to her child,Eddy appeared in front of her.

"I came earlier,you were still asleep." he explained as he unlocked the cage and helped her out of it.

"I'll be leaving now." Aurora announced immediately.She hoped to take her bath at her house rather than here.

Besides none of her clothes were here.

"Leaving?" Eddy looked surprised "You should inform the boss first"

Aurora nodded and walked along with him.On their arrival,she met the family having breakfast.

The food was mouth-watering it made her stomach chun painfully.

She remembered the woman from yesterday who had helped her.

Andrea was sitting next to Leo,who Aurora termed as a gentleman.But why were they holding hands?

Their tight hands together reminded Aurora of her failed relationship with Matteo.Her heart ached.

Mrs Genovese still stared at her with a heavy amount of hatred in her eyes.Aurora wondered what she was expecting her to do.

She wouldn't make the mistake of greeting them.They might as well return her greeting and she was in no mood for arguments.

"Sit" she heard him say.

However she remained put.

"I said sit" he repeated,his dark eyes holding her gaze

"No" came her curt reply "I only came to say I'll be leaving."

Mrs Genovese hissed.

"Luca,you are impossibly lenient on this girl!" she got up on her feet "Just see the way she talks back at you and disobeys your orders!"

"Mother..." Leo sighed as his voice trailed off

"I don't need your kindness and I don't want your generosity either" Aurora blatantly ignored Mrs Genovese and gently said her piece to the man who pretended not to hear her.

She turned to go but surprisingly found four bodyguards guarding the door.Eddy was one of them.

Aurora turned back to the Mafia dressed in black outfit.

"So what? I'm I on another punishment?" she said sarcastically "Precisely a house arrest?"

He looked up at her.

His gaze sending sharp shivers down her nerves.He used the napkin to wipe his lips before he got up on his feet.

He crossed the few distance seperating them and stopped in front of her.His tall frame looming over her.

"Stop talking and have breakfast" he said calmly "I can hear your belly grumbling"
