Chapter 4

Author: Good Times
The first thing Jenna did when she got home was to get rid of all the maids. She held her breath as she ignored the pain in her calf and cleared all their matching items at home. She had bought them over the past few years.

When she saw them, she remembered how Matthew had pestered her to use matching items when they were still passionately in love—keychains, mugs, toothbrushes, and even jackets...

Although they were of little value, he was elated. As far as she was concerned, what had once brought unlimited sweetness was now just a bunch of junk.

Halfway through cleaning up, Jenna received a call from the hospital, saying Matthew was sent to the emergency room.

Staggering, Jenna hurriedly asked the driver to take her to the hospital.

Upon closer questioning, she found out that Matthew was somehow hit by a chandelier. The chandelier was so heavy that it fell on Matthew, causing several fractures to the back of his shoulder and arm. Fortunately, he did not suffer any fatal injuries.

Matthew only woke up the next evening.

Before then, his phone constantly lit up and dimmed. They were all notifications of unread messages and multiple missed calls. Jenna tapped on them to find messages from Luna.

Luna: [Matt, are you okay? Why won't you let me see you?]

Luna: [Shall we give up the plan? I don't want you to arrange a job for me anymore. I just want you to be safe and sound.]

Luna: [Matt, I miss you so much...]

'Plan? A job?' Jenna pondered, confused. Just as she was about to take a closer look, Matthew, who was on the bed, coughed several times and was about to wake up. She had no choice but to mark the messages as unread and put his phone back.

The first second Matthew opened his eyes and saw her, he immediately complained coquettishly to her, "Jenna, my dear Jenna, I'm in so much pain."

Jenna had already kept her emotions in check and calmly asked, "What happened to you? How were you hit by a chandelier?"

Matthew paused for a moment, his expression looking a little evasive. "There was a chandelier that was no longer in use on a shelf in the company's storage room. I accidentally bumped into the shelf and got hit when I went there to get something."

Without waiting for Jenna to say anything, Matthew grabbed her hand, pressed it against his face, and muttered, "It hurts so much. My dear Jenna, hug me and kiss me."

In the past, Jenna loved this childish side of him that he only showed in front of her. Whenever he acted coquettishly, she would put everything aside to coax him. However, this time, she pulled her hand away wearily. "I'm exhausted. I need to get some sleep."

Matthew froze for a moment, but he immediately endured the pain and moved aside to make room for her when he saw her haggard look. "Come on, Jenna. Lie down."

The worry in his eyes did not seem fake. He looked like he was so distressed that he was about to cry. However, the man who loved her so much had repeatedly deceived her.

Jenna tried hard to control her emotions. "Okay, let me know if you need anything."

Matthew immediately covered her with the blanket and gently patted her with the only hand he could use.

For the recent events, Jenna had become a light sleeper. Therefore, when she heard slight noises behind her in the middle of the night, she woke up almost instantly. She did not move and just lay in bed, silently listening as Matthew walked into the bathroom.

He made a phone call. "Stop crying, Luna Bear. I'm fine. Be good. I'll come up with an identity for you in a couple of days and tell Jenna that you're my savior. That way, we can solve the issue of you becoming my assistant. Jenna is grateful and kind-hearted. She'll agree as soon as I mention it. Stop crying, okay? Once you're my assistant, we can be together every day."

The moonlight was ghastly pale, shining through the tree leaves.

With her back to him, Jenna pretended to be asleep but was crying incessantly.

Love was completely subjective. Unfortunately, Matthew had never thought of it as something that should be exclusive. That was why he already had someone else just after 12 years despite promising a lifetime with just Jenna. He even went as far as to set up a plot to trick her, just so his Luna Bear could become his assistant, making it convenient for him to see her every day.

A night breeze blew in through the slightly open window, carrying a slight whistling sound. Jenna clutched the blanket as she cried more violently.

Matthew's smile fell apart. Soon, he could no longer continue smiling. "Jenna, have you really thought this through?"Without waiting for Jenna's reply, he eagerly added, "But all men are the same. Snap out of it! He's only nice to you because he hasn't won your heart yet. Once he gets it, he'll make the same mistake I did..."Jenna looked calmly at him. "So what? I've never given up on love. One failure doesn't mean I'll be depressed and never believe in love again. Maybe I'll marry him, maybe I won't. But whatever the outcome, it has nothing to do with you. Matthew, spare yourself and spare me."Every word struck Matthew's heart like a heavy blow.'Spare... her?' Matthew thought as he watched Jenna's mouth open and close. Soon, he suddenly heard a buzz. Intense pain spread from his chest to his whole body. It seemed to turn into countless steel needles, stabbing every inch of his skin. The pain swallowed him in endless darkness. The sounds he could hear softened until they disapp

Amanda looked at Matthew's listless look and eventually compromised. She could only shamelessly beg Jenna again.Knowing Amanda's intention, Jenna shook her head. "Mrs. Simmons, I'm very sorry. I don't want anything to do with Matthew anymore, and it's inappropriate for me to see him now."Amanda's expression was a little stiff. Hearing her last sentence, Amanda subconsciously answered, "Why is it inappropriate? Jenna, do you have any concerns?"Jenna smiled, looking shy. She was also smiling more. "Because I'm afraid it'll upset my boyfriend."The answer was like a grenade. Amanda did not expect Jenna to get a new boyfriend so soon. After two knocks, the bedroom door was pushed open, and Sebastian's voice sounded in the doorway. He smiled gently at Jenna. "Jenna, how much longer do you need? I've come to take you out to eat.""I'll be done soon." Jenna smiled back at him and beckoned him to sit next to her before looking back at Amanda. "Mrs. Simmons, is there anything else you

Matthew drank all day long after the divorce. It was as if he could forget everything by drowning himself in liquor. Every day, he flipped through photo albums of him and Jenna. He reprinted them and pasted them all over his bedroom. Plopping down on the floor, he looked at the photos and burst into tears.Whenever he came home in the past, the lights would be on and she would be waiting for him no matter how late it was. He put aside his work and drank at home all day but could not see the person who loved him wholeheartedly anymore.Matthew was afraid to sleep. It was rainy and cold on the day Jenna returned.Sebastian immediately took off his coat and put it on her, and she smiled at him.Matthew, who was not far away, looked at their actions and felt pain surge in his heart. He stepped forward and looked at Jenna with vulnerability and anticipation. "Jenna, I'm here to take you home."Jenna took Sebastian's arm and answered indifferently, "Mr. Simmons, please get out of the way. I don't have a home with you."Looking at her indifferent gaze, Matthew's heart hurt like it had been stabbed. He clenched his fists and pursed his lips. He forced down his unwillingness and agony before giving way reluctantly."See you tomorrow at 8:00 am. I hope you won't be late," Jenna added. After saying that to Matthew, who had frozen on the spot, she took Sebastian's arm and hailed a cab before leaving without hesitation. After watching the car drive away, Matthew only felt an emptiness. Jenna was sitting in her coffee shop, buying a plane ticket. She had to return to settle the divorce. After confirming nothing was wrong, she looked up to meet Sebastian's unusually deep gaze. "Why are you looking at me like that?""Jenna, are you going back because you've decided to forgive him?" Sebastian sounded a little nervous. The eagerness and sadness in his eyes were so strong that Jenna felt something strange flickering through her heart. She subconsciously pushed the two bottles of wine on the counter to him. "Would you like to have a drink with me?"Jenna had not had a good drink like this in years. Sebastian silently drank with her, listening to her intermittently talk about the past. The alcohol got to her head, so she said childishly, "I won't forgive that jerk. I'm going back to divorce him!"Sebastian paused, feeling intense joy. He thought, 'Turns out she's going back to get a divorce! That's great!'He was about to say something when Jenna hung her head low as
