Chapter 40: Fractured Truths

ANYA’S POV

The doors banged open and Cassian walked in like he owned the whole damn hall as his rogues spread out behind him slowly and confidently as their hands rested easy near their weapons. My breath caught hard in my throat because those eyes, those cold blue eyes locked straight on me, and everything slammed back from that night two years ago.

Rain pounded the car roof as screams filled the air and blood smelled like sharp metallic. I crawled out the wreckage with my shaky legs, and saw two pairs of eyes watching from the shadows.

One pair was still very much confusing to me, but it did look like Damien’s. The other pair were ice blue as they glowed almost in the dark and stared at me like I was prey already dead. I never forgot them. And now here they were again on Cassian’s face, smirking down the aisle at me.

Fear hit me cold and sudden as my hands shook on my lap. I pushed up from the seat, ready to bolt, or scream, or confront him, I didn't

Chapter 50: Blood Moon Chaos ROWAN’S POV Pain pulled me from the dark slowly as sharp claws raked across my chest with every shallow breath while voices murmured low around me in worried tones blending with the scent of herbs and blood thick in the air. Baron stirred weakly inside my mind as the healing pushed gradually through torn muscle and cracked ribs, but the agony kept me pinned flat on soft sheets that smelled like home. I forced my eyes open as the familiar ceiling of my bedroom swam into focus and the moonlight spilled silver through half-drawn curtains. Lior sat close in a chair with his face drawn tight with exhaustion and relief flashing instantly when he saw me awake. Elders hovered near the foot of the bed, Harkson and Mira among them, their expressions grave under flickering candlelight. I tried to sit up quick and fire exploded across my torso, the wounds pulled open fresh as I gasped loudly and fell back hard against the pillows. “Easy,” Lior said as his hands

Chapter 49: Visions and Chains ANYA’S POV Darkness wrapped tightly around me and refused to let go, it felt heavy and endless as I floated lost in it. My body was distant and unresponsive while sounds crept in slowly and terrifyingly. Screams echoed faintly at first, muffled cries blending with crackling flames that sent waves of heat washing over my skin even though my eyes stayed shut and I couldn’t move a muscle. Shouts grew louder and clearer as I struggled to focus, voices overlapping in furious chaos and drawing nearer with every desperate beat of my heart. “Burn the witch!” a mob roared over and over with hatred thick in every syllable while forced hissed and wood popped loud in the fire. “Kill the witch!” Then a younger voice sliced through the noise, it sounded raw and breaking with pure terror as it called out desperately. “Father! Mother!” I knew that voice instantly though it was younger and stripped of the cold control he wore now, but I knew it was Damien’s cry t

Chapter 48: Shattered Bridge DAMIEN’S POV The engine roared loudly as I pushed the car harder through the dark roads, the tires gripped the curves tight as the wind whipped cold through the open window. Gavin sat silently beside me with his face pale and tense, but I ignored him. My mind locked on one thing. Anya is gone. She’d slipped out like smoke while I chased a cure to my curse. I knew she would try to leave. I knew the letter from Rowan burned in her thoughts and she hid it carefully away from me. I saw the guilt on her face when she looked at me earlier, she couldn’t hide it. I doubled the guards, I banned Iris from seeing her. But yet she still found a way, she always finds a way when it comes to Rowan. The pack house loomed ahead fast with the lights blazing late. I skidded to a sharp stop as gravel flew and I shoved the door open. “Gavin,” I barked low. “Find Iris. Bring her to the study immediately.” He nodded quickly as he jumped out fast. I stormed inside as my bo

Chapter 47: Midnight Reckoning ROWAN’S POV The pack house drowned in darkness and silence as I slipped through the side door just past eleven. I wore a sweater then a jacket which I zipped high against the chill of the night. Tomorrow night the moon would rise full and red for Cassandra’s execution and her fate will be sealed at the altar of blood. Lior waited in the shadows of the garage with his arms crossed tight and his face etched with lines deeper than usual. “She sent another message,” he said quietly as he stepped into my path. “She begged to see you before tomorrow before her execution. She says she has some things to say to you.” I brushed past him and grabbed my keys from the hook sharp. “I have better things to do than waste time on her ridiculous lies.” Lior grabbed my arm gently but firm. “Rowan, where are you going this late alone? The guards should—”"See you later," I muttered as I cut him off and slid into the car, slamming the door firmly behind me. The engin

Chapter 46: Shadows of the Curse DAMIEN’S POV I gripped the car door handle tight as Gavin pulled out of the pack house drive, the gravel crunched loud under tires in the dead night. Pain burned deep in my veins like liquid fire spreading slowly from my chest to my fingertips as the curse flared hotter than ever since I pulled that ironroot into my system. Blood trickled warm from my nose as I tasted metallic on my lips. I wiped it away roughly with my sleeve but more came steadily. “Alpha,” Gavin said urgently from the driver’s seat as his eyes flicked to the rearview mirror. “You need the doctor. This isn’t normal.” “Drive,” I growled low in a ragged voice. Valek howled weakly inside my mind as he scratched at the edges of my mind but the curse drowned him out and shadows twisted in my vision like smoke curling from invisible flames. Gavin’s hands clenched the wheel as his knuckles turned white and his feet slammed the accelerator harder. The car surged forward through the dar

Chapter 45: Caged ANYA’S POV The day started with a quiet that felt too heavy and too deliberate. I woke up alone in the vast bed as sunlight filtered through the curtains in pale strips but the silence outside the door told me something had changed. No soft footsteps of servants passing, no distant chatter from the hall. Just an unnatural stillness that screamed “wrong.” I rose up slowly as my body still carried the lingering ache from the ironroot and walked to the door. I turned the handle tiredly as it opened freely but to my surprise two guards stood outside my door with broad shoulders blocking the way and their faces blank and unmoving. What the hell? “Good morning, Luna,” one said in a stiff tone as his eyes moved forward. “You are to remain in your room till the Alpha returns.” I stared at them with confusion sharp in my chest. “What? Why? On whose orders?” “On the order of the Alpha,” the second one replied. “That’s stupid,” I half-yelled. But they did not answer ne
