Chapter 23

Seduce the Alpha

Paula froze, staring at me to give her orders.

I wasn't expecting anyone at the moment, besides it was late, so who could knock so casually?!

Paula's hand was still half-raised from where she had been tucking the blanket tighter around my shoulders.

“My lady…” she whispered, her eyes moving over to the door. “Should I… should I open it?”

Another knock came again.

“Yes,” I said, looking straight at the door as though something bad was about to happen. “Open it.”

Chapter 64The Queen Mother's Hate Adelaide’s POVMy head felt heavy when I opened my eyes. For a moment, I did not know where I was. The ceiling above me was not the one in Kaius’ chambers. This one had the soft blue silk drapes I had chosen months ago. My room.I tried to move and pain rushed through my body like I had been beaten from inside. My chest burned and my arms felt weak. Then I remembered what had happened at Kaius chamber, how weak I became and how I didn't know what happened next. I shot up at once, when I heard movements in the room. It was getting closer to where I was and I knew it couldn't be Paula because she was still receiving treatment.I turned and saw the Queen Mother standing by my bedside, her hands clasped behind her back. She was dressed in deep grey, no ornaments, no smile and her eyes were fixed on me. “How dare you,” she said slowly,“endanger the Alpha’s life?”My throat went dry. “What?” I managed to say, blinking my eyes.I looked around the room

Chapter 63The Kingdom Without a KingAdelaide’s POV“I’d be back! Do anything you can for him.” I said, as I rushed off to the door. The guards were stationed and when they saw me rush out, they were expecting the worst.“Get the pack physician, more healers! Anyone!” I instructed sharply. “Now.”Two guards ran out immediately as I shut the door back with a loud bang.I moved closer to him as I brushed his hair back from his forehead. “Kaius,” I whispered. “I’m here. Please, you have to fight whatever that's in there…you have to!”He did not answer as his chest raised slowly. There were faint dark lines under his skin. At first I thought it was shadow from the candlelight. But when I leaned closer, I saw it clearly. It was another mark. Oh moon goddess! What's all these?! I lamented, biting my lower lips. The healer tried more, but nothing was working. “Why is nothing working?” I yelled, my eyes almost losing its light. She bent her head, “I need to get the others. They should be

Chapter 62Collapse of the KingAdelaide’s POV “Kaius!”I screamed louder, wrapping my arms around him. He fell heavy in my arms, and I dropped to my knees with him. His weight nearly pulled me down completely, but I held on, my hands clutching his shoulders and reaching to his face. “Kaius, look at me,” I begged, shaking him lightly. “Kaius!”His eyes were half-open and his lips parted like he wanted to speak, but no words came out.Suddenly, what looked like a wall around us tore open as the air shifted. The invisible wall had kept the guards out and when Rey disappeared, it didn't disappear with her, I just saw it crack and now it was finally off. “My lady!”They rushed towards me immediately and when they saw Kaius on the floor, they were totally surprised. I heard someone gasp when they saw him on the ground. Two guards dragged Paula in with them. She looked weak, her dress torn and her wrists red, but she was conscious now.Immediately, she rushed towards me, even in her we

Chapter 61Interrupted ExecutionAdelaide’s POV “Who is your father?” Rey asked one more time, stepping closer and for a second, I truly thought I misheard her.I looked straight at her, utterly surprised by the question she was asking. What does she mean who's my father?! What does she need such information for? Besides, my father is already dead, she won't be able to harm him, if that's what she wants. I wanted to speak, to tell her his name, but then something crossed my mind. She's a wife, what if she tries to torrment his spirit or cage him in a way?!No way I'd be telling her that. I swallowed hard and looked at her again. She stepped closer again, “answer me..” she said in a lower tone, her gaze not leaving mine.“My… what?”“Your father,” she repeated gently. “Who is he?”My heart began to pound, I wondered what she was going to do to me, if I withheld the information. Should I lie to her or something? Will she find out I lied?! I thought, my fingers entwined absentmindedl

Chapter 60The Witch Visits The Luna Adelaide’s POV “Kaius?” I called, moving closer to the body the soldiers held. “My lady, you can't see him..” Paula held me, trying to stop me with a little shake of her head. “Is that really him?!” I kept moving, ignoring her completely. The courtyard felt too loud and too quiet at the same time, soldiers shouting and boots slamming against stone, but none of it made sense because all I could see was the body they carried between them.Four men carrying a man, whose hand looked too loose to be alive. My heart stopped beating. “Kaius!” I shouted again, my voice breaking as I pushed past two guards who tried to block me.They lowered the body near the fountain as I dropped to my knees immediately. That was when I saw his face, it wasn't Kaius at all. The breath I didn’t know I was holding left me in a rush as my vision blurred. The scout lying there was young, barely older than a boy. His neck was bent wrong and his eyes appeared too cold like

Chapter 59The Confrontation Adelaide’s POV I couldn't get my mind off the sound I was hearing outside. I kept peeping out of the window, hoping I'd see Kaius by the slightest chance.I clasped my fingers together, “is Kaius alright out there?” Suddenly, the door opened and Paula rushed in almost immediately. I rushed to meet her half way too, staring straight into eyes.“Paula, what's the situation of things out there? Where's the alpha?”My voice came out tighter than I meant it to. I stood near the center table in my chambers, tapping my fingers on it. Paula stood near the door, her hands clasped together in front of her apron. She had been avoiding my eyes since she rushed in, and that alone told me something was wrong.“Your Majesty… you should sit,” she said softly.“No,” I replied immediately. “Not until you tell me where Kaius is.”She inhaled slowly, as if searching for the right words.“Paula.”“He left to find the witch,” she finally said. The words landed like a blow.
