LYDIA’S POV
The first punch came harder than the others. It knocked the air from my chest and got me rolling on the floor and straight into the mud.
Laughter rippled through the training field, echoing louder than my heart that had picked up a race, it felt as though it was about to rip off my chest.
“Stay down, Omega!” My ears caught, my eyes were buried in shame that I couldn’t look up to see who the speaker was, but even if I knew the speaker, what would I do to him or her?
“You’ll never shift anyway. You’re useless” Another of them sneered and I knew that wouldn’t be the height of it.
“The petite Omega has refused to make us proud again!” Those were the words of a colleague.
I tasted a little of my warm blood while it rushed down my face. My wolf should have been growling but she was silent, always silent and would mostly likely remain silent forever.
My jaw was tightly clenched and I rose to my feet, my colleagues still had a lot to say to me but I listened to them with deaf ears. I needed to head to the ladies so I can clean up.
If I decide to head home in my mud-stained uniform, my foster mother won’t hesitate to remind how much of a failure I am and how lucky I am that she keeps me in her house.
Lucky. That’s what she calls it, the cold dinner, cold stares, a bedroom that used to be a storage, the constant insults and abuse and even the constant reminder that my parents abandoned me while I was little.
Things weren’t like that when they initially took me in but everything took a drastic turn after she had Kendra who everyone in the college calls my sister.
She stopped caring about me, helping me with my assignments, taking me shopping and so much more. My foster frowned at her actions at first but it didn’t take long before he neglected me also.
I took a step further and my head was no longer buried in shame and at this point, I hope that no one attacks me physically again or I might do what I know how to do best.
“Kendra, you scared me!” I cried out seconds after a figure showed up in front of me suddenly.
“I didn’t mean too, I’m sorry” She placed her hands on my shoulders before apologizing.
Here she was, my confidant and best friend. I could tell she was excited but I couldn’t tell why, but she definitely wasn’t excited because I had just been humiliated in the presence of all the students in the academy.
“You should have waited for me” Vivian showed up and cooed. My sister girl and biggest supporter.
With Vivian and Kendra by my side, I feel like I can move mountains. They’ve been my source of strength and they make me forget often that I happen to be an outcast in the academy.
“Where have you both been?” I inquired while raising an eyebrow. We were supposed to show up here together but they left me to myself, making me a target for bullies.
“We skipped training session as usual” They said at the same time. I couldn’t blame them for always skipping training sessions, they don’t need the training like I do.
I keep hoping that engaging in training sessions would make me shift someday so I don’t keep training sessions even though I always get humiliated in the course of it.
They didn’t bother to ask why my uniform and hair was stained with mud and I was guessing they figured out what happened already, it’s not that they don’t care.
“There’s a party!” Kendra and Vivian mentioned, the excitement on their faces knew no bound.
“Can you both stop acting like twins?” I had gotten fed up of them speaking at the same time, they would actually pass for twins.
“Sorry. There’s a party coming up tonight and we have to be there, all students will be there” Vivian reached out for my hand and said while looking into my eyes.
“You know what my response will be” I heaved a sigh that wasn’t so deep before responding to her.
A petite Omega whose shifting was being delayed unnaturally and is labeled an outcast in the academy shouldn’t attend parties, heading home to my foster parents sounded like a better option.
“You can’t say no. Vivian and I already got you what to wear” Kendra protested, her arms were folded and her forehead squeezed.
“Our parents won’t like the idea of us returning home late” I reminded her, she seem to have forgotten.
“I’ve got that covered, you don’t have to worry” Kendra’s words.
Before I could utter another word, Kendra reached out for my left hand while Vivian refused to let go of my right hand. They began sprinting and because they had a hold on my hands, I found myself sprinting also.
*****
Here we were at the party. The hall was decorated aesthetically and music echoed through the speakers, radiant faces were everywhere and wine glasses containing wine were being passed around.
Vivian and Kendra made me put on a dress I wasn’t comfortable with and when I protested, they both insisted it was perfect for the occasion. It was my first time putting on a sleeveless short dress.
“He’s here, I didn’t think he would attend” Vivian remarked while looking in a direction. I traced her eyes and it made my eyes lock with Alpha Kendrick’s.
Alpha Kendrick, the heir to the throne and also a student in the academy. His father, the former Alpha had him at a very old age and that explains why he became Alpha at a very young age.
I won’t be able to say much too about him because I don’t know him that well. I only watch him from afar but I’ve heard some student say that he has multiple personalities.
He’s only nineteen years old which makes him only a year older than me. He’s tall and intimidating, slightly muscular and has a face that everyone finds cute, myself included.
“He won’t stop looking in our direction” Vivian cooed. His eyes and mine still remained locked.
My senses suddenly sharpened and it was as though I was struck by lightning. The noises fell away and my knees trembled as his scent filled my nostrils.
‘Mate,’
The word wasn’t spoken aloud and it didn’t need to be. It slammed into my mind and soul with the force of a hurricane, it also got me on chokehold and it became harder to breath.
It was him and I alone in this place, that was what it felt like. He was headed in my direction and I felt as though my heart was about to rip off my chest, how can the Alpha be my mate? The Omega, the wolfless, the outcast.
“Do you feel what I feel too?” His voice, it echoed in my chest. He was only three step away from me when he spoke.
“Yes… I feel it too,” I responded. I was right all along, he’s my mate and it wasn’t all just in my head.
He stepped closer, making him only a step away from me. I could keep up with his eyeballs and in return, he did the same.
“You’re just an omega, not fit for a Luna. I, Alpha Kendrick, reject you as my mate.” His words, they hit harder than a physical blow and I just heard someone laugh nervously.
CHAPTER SEVENTEENLYDIA’S POVThe silence was long, but it wasn’t awkward. I didn’t like that this was my way of repaying the good he did to me, but I couldn’t jeopardize my future for him. I didn’t plan to spend the rest of my life here in his mansion and pack as his.Alpha Kendrick hurt me, and I didn’t know if I was healed. My plan was to have control over my wolf, take revenge on my foster parents and Alpha Kendrick, and then leave here to start a new life somewhere.I didn’t know Alpha Dave’s intentions for me. I couldn’t trust that he wouldn’t make me regret getting marked by him. It was said that men were scum, and the last time I checked, Alpha Dave was one.“I know the consequences that my actions will come with. I didn’t come here with anything, so I’ll be leaving with nothing. I did have plans to leave the mansion, but not elope like you assumed earlier,” I broke the silence. I saw the need to.“Can I know why you said no? It’s for closure,” he asked while I had my eyes eve
LYDIA’S POVI took a step at a time while descending the stairs. I heard the honk of Alpha Dave’s car, and it was why I left my room. He didn’t spend the night in the mansion, and it did get me worried.Throughout the previous day, I didn’t set my eyes on him. I asked some guards about his whereabouts, and I was told he drove out suddenly. I tried calling him, but I found out he left his phone at home.“Lydia,” he muttered after he saw me. He acted like he saw a ghost, his actions could sometimes be funny and weird. He saw me in the hallway that led to the compound. If I had walked at a faster pace, I might have met him in the compound. I paused. I wanted him to get closer to me.Judging by his appearance, he was okay. I thought something bad had happened to him, but I was glad he was back. I didn’t think he should have left the mansion without telling anyone where he was headed.“I see you’re back,” he mentioned. He stood in front of me and was only a step away.“I haven’t been anywh
KENDRICK’S POVI told Kendra to do all of these on her own, but she insisted on involving me in the process of everything. If she wanted company, she could have picked one of the domestic workers to do all of these with her.Her parents wanted something loud, something that would be the talk of packs, but it wasn’t the same with me. I tried to talk to Kendra, but she clearly was on her parents’ side. She wanted what they wanted.“What do you think about the colors?” Kendra inquired. She must have assumed that I had been listening to the conversation she was having with her stylist.Physically, I was here with her, but my mind wasn’t. I ought to be in my room taking a nap, but here I was in the living room with her and her stylist. I cleared my throat while I thought of the response to give her.“The first color is perfect,” I said. Kendra’s eyes were literally piercing my skin.“And what is the first color?” she inquired. She caught me.I didn’t know what the first color they spoke ab
DAVE’S POVLydia doesn’t wake up very early in the morning, I knew that about her. She claimed she wasn’t a morning person, and I found that really funny. I might have to wait a little longer so I wouldn’t interrupt her sleep.I didn’t get any sleep all through the night, and it had to be because my mind was heavy. I kept thinking of the things that could be going through Lydia’s mind. I wondered if she would agree to do this with me.At some point, I wondered if I did the right thing by telling her that my fate lay in her hands. I might have sounded really desperate to her. My fate did lie in her hands, but maybe I shouldn’t have told her.“Don’t you have anything on your schedule for today?” my wolf asked.“Of course I do,” I replied.“Why not get to it instead of sitting around?”“I’m not sitting around. I’m not on my way to Lydia right now because I want her to get enough sleep. I’ll be on my way to her soon,” I said. He spoke as though I was being lazy and wanted to do nothing to
LYDIA’S POV“After getting coronated as Alpha, I was supposed to find my mate and make her Luna. While we were in Alpha Damien’s pack, I told you that I had been in search of my mate for the longest but I could still wait a little longer.”“I don’t want to bore you so I’ll go straight to the point. I can’t mark any random lady and make her Luna afterwards. I can only mark my mate and make her Luna afterwards.”“You’re my mate and if there’s anyone that can keep me on the throne, it’s you.”Those were Alpha Dave’s words to me before he left my room. According to him, I was the only one who could help him. He helped me in the past and could it be that he was expecting me to return the favor? He helped me on the night I got rejected by Alpha Damien. He helped me train and that led to my wolf breaking out. Also, he helped me by buying me when my foster parents put me up for sale. Only the Moon Goddess knew who would have bought me if he did not.I forgot to add that he did not let Alpha D
LYDIA’S POV“When you get dethroned, does that mean you’ll have to leave the mansion, and by extension, me also?” Curiosity made me ask Alpha Dave.I took time to process all that he had said to me, and I couldn’t help but ask him that question. I might have known the answer to the question, but I wanted to hear it from him. My wolf, Aria, said it was a silly question. My eyes were on him while he looked straight in front of him. After hearing all he had to say, I no longer blamed him for going to the club to drink. He cleared his throat, and it was a sign that he was about to give me a response.“Not only will I leave the mansion, I’ll be asked to leave the pack. I’ll be labeled a loser and a…”“That’s gross,” I chimed.Where were they expecting him to go from there? They seemed to have forgotten that he had sacrificed a lot for the pack already. According to him, he only had a few days left as Alpha.“You’ll be asked to leave with me also,” he cooed. I knew that already. The elders
