Camilla's POV.

"Camilla, where are you? The party has already started, and the Director is asking for you," Andrew's voice crackled through the phone.

"I'll be there soon," I replied quickly, ending the call before Andrew could initiate a longer conversation. I felt a bit of guilt tugged at me as I hung up.

The hospital I worked at, Torrance Memorial Medical Center, was hosting a get-together party. My being there was more like a miracle thanks to Raymond, my fiance who I met the first time I relocated to this city.

It was so easy for him to find me a job through some connections, after learning I was a qualified doctor- although I never got to practice before I married Lawrence.

Recently, some mystery businessman bought the hospital. As it were, there was a bit of a reshuffle but luckily for some staff, they were retained.

Andrew, the head doctor, decided to celebrate the occasion by throwing a mini party for the hospital staff and important guests and to introduce and welcome the new director. As one of the top doctors, I couldn't afford to miss such an event.

Just as I was about to apply the final touches to my makeup, the door to my bedroom burst open, and my two precious pumpkins came tumbling in, giggling and laughing as they crashed into my legs.

"Mommy, Mommy, look what we found!" George exclaimed, holding up a tiny frog figurine with a triumphant grin.

I couldn't help but smile at the sight of my twins, George and Mira, their faces flushed with excitement as they showed off their latest discovery. They were the light of my life, the reason I got up every morning, and I couldn't imagine my world without them.

Six years ago, it was a mixture of happiness and sadness. Everything came crashing down in my world when I caught the father of my kids in a promiscuous act with my best friend, Jane after accusing me of cheating with my ex.

Without a word and a second glance, I turned and ran. I ran as far and as fast as my legs would carry me, desperate to escape the pain and heartache that threatened to consume me. And as I left that house behind, I vowed never to look back, never to let them hurt me again.

It didn't take up to a year before I gave birth to my twins. Ever since I took it upon myself to take care of my twins even as a single mother while having Raymond who had done nothing all this while than to support me by my side but that didn't stop the constant reminder of Lawrence whenever I look at the kids, especially Goerge who has a striking resemblance of his father.

"Wow, that's amazing, sweetheart!" I said, kneeling to their level and ruffling George's hair affectionately.

"But Mommy has to go to work now, so I need you two to be good for Aunt Kiara, okay?"

They nodded eagerly with their eyes wide with anticipation as they handed me the frog figurine before racing off. I watched them scamper off to find their babysitter and I couldn't help but smile at them as I realized how much they had grown in the four years.

They were my reason for carrying on, my reason for pushing through the pain and heartache that threatened to consume me.

With a heavy sigh, I turned back to the mirror, putting the finishing touches on my makeup before slipping on a pair of matching heels. I checked my reflection one last time, smoothing down stray strands of hair and straightening my dress before grabbing my purse and heading out the door.

I walked into the party a bit late. The room was already abuzz with laughter and chatter and I tried as much as possible to avoid drawing too much attention to myself but I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the sight of my female colleagues squealing like teenagers over the hospital's new director.

The excited whispers of the female colleagues as they gushed about the hospital's new director were so annoying.

I rolled my eyes at their childish antics, their giggles grating on my nerves.

Did they have nothing better to do than swoon over some rich businessman? But as I brushed past them, my attempts at slipping by unnoticed were thwarted when Andrew appeared at my side with a stern expression.

"Camilla, you're late," he scolded.

"The hospital's director has been asking for you. He wants to speak with you."

I sighed inwardly, cursing my luck as I followed Andrew towards one of the rooms in the building where the party was being held.

As we entered, I froze in shock at the sight before me. Standing there, looking every bit as handsome and infuriating as ever was no other than Lawrence.

My heart skipped a beat as our eyes met, and I felt a surge of emotions wash over me.

Anger, betrayal and longing... it was all there, swirling beneath the surface as I struggled to keep my composure.

Andrew noticed I was carrying an emotion he didn't understand. He cleared his throat, breaking the tension as he addressed me.

"Do you know our new director, Camilla?"

I hesitated for a moment, trying to come up with a plausible explanation. "No, I don't," I lied, forcing a smile onto my face as I turned to face Lawrence.

"Nice to meet you, Dr...?"

"Lawrence," he said with his gaze never leaving mine. "Lawrence Knights.”

My breath caught in my throat at the mention of his name and instantly memories of our past flooded back with a vengeance. I didn't know how he turned out to be the one who bought the hospital, but something didn't seem right.

But I pushed them aside, not wanting to cause any suspicion from Andrew.

Andrew however excused himself, leaving us alone.

Lawrence took a step towards me with a serious expression as he spoke.

"Camilla, we need to talk," he said with a low yet urgent voice. "There's something I need to tell you."

I clenched my jaw refusing to let him see how much his presence affected me.

"I'm not interested in anything you have to say," I snapped even though my voice tinged with bitterness. "You lost that right when you betrayed me."

He flinched at my words. His eyes were filled with remorse as he reached out towards me.

"I know I messed up, Camilla," he said softly.

"But please, just hear me out. It's important."

I shook my head, tears pricking at the corners of my eyes as I backed away from him.

"I don't want to hear it," I whispered, my voice barely above a whisper. "I can't trust you, Lawrence, not after what you did."

But he wasn't ready to give up, not yet.

"Camilla, please," he pleaded with desperation creeping into his voice. "I'm not here to hurt you. I'm here for our child."

His words hit me like a ton of bricks. My breath hung in my throat as I struggled to comprehend what he was saying.

"How... how did you know?" I whispered, my voice barely audible over the pounding of my heart.

Camilla’s POV.I wasn’t supposed to come in today. But as usual… Lawrence happened.I’d told Dr. Andrew a few days ago that I needed time off to visit my sick mom. That was a lie, of course. Mom was fine. What I’d actually planned to do today was visit the donor and take him in for some final testing. But then Andrew called early this morning. He didn’t say much—just one sentence, really.“Lawrence is coming in today.”At first, I was annoyed. Why today, of all days? But then Andrew added, “It’s his last check-up. We just need to take off the final bandages and run a few scans to confirm his recovery.”His last check-up.That line echoed in my head like a soft, fading song. For a moment, I stood there in silence, holding the phone to my ear, unsure how to feel. It’s not like I hate Lawrence. I don’t. Our last conversation still stings a little, but I had to do what I did. I needed to protect my peace… and the truth.Still, I couldn’t keep avoiding him forever. It was childish, and the

Lawrence's POV.I got up from the bed, restless again. For the past few days, sleep had been running from me like I was chasing it with a stick. No matter how tired I felt, the moment I closed my eyes, my mind would start racing. Memories, regrets, questions—they all kept flooding in. It was exhausting. With a sigh, I got out of bed and made my way downstairs. The house was quiet, dim, and cold. Just like my thoughts.I walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge to get a bottle of water. My eyes fell on the scrapbook I had taken from Mom’s room. I had left it on the counter earlier, planning to look at it again. It was old and worn but still so full of meaning. Mom had made one for each of us—me and Liana—when we were turning ten. She made us sit in different rooms and write about each other. Paste pictures. Draw memories. And the rule was simple—we weren’t allowed to look at each other’s pages until we turned eighteen. But life had other plans.Mom died before that day came. And s

Liana's POV.As soon as Edgar stood up from the dining table, he muttered, “I’ll be back,” and walked out.The silence that followed was deafening. None of us said a word. Just the soft clinking of cutlery and the distant chirping of birds from outside.I was already uncomfortable before he left, and now it was just worse. Then, like she couldn’t take the awkwardness anymore, Andra decided to speak.“So… how have you been, Lawrence?” she asked, her voice calm but a little too cheerful.“I’ve been good, and you?” Lawrence replied politely.“I’m good too,” she said. “Though I must admit… my progress can’t really be compared to yours.”That made Lawrence pause. His brows furrowed slightly. “What do you mean by that?”She gave a small chuckle. “Come on, Lawrence, you don’t have to pretend. It’s all over the news. Knights Mobile, that huge contract you signed with the Indian company. You’re not just doing good, you’re killing it. You’re like… the country’s golden boy now.”Lawrence gave a

Lawrence’s POV.I sat quietly in my office, my head resting against the back of my chair, eyes shut. The day had drained every ounce of energy I had. I hadn’t even noticed how tense my shoulders were until I tried to relax. It’s been a rough couple of weeks. The work kept piling up, and even though Dylan helped me here and there, a lot of it still needed my attention. I’d spent the whole morning buried in documents, flipping through contracts and signing papers like a machine.Knights Mobile was growing rapidly—better than I had expected, honestly. And as exhausting as it was, I couldn’t deny I felt proud of how far we’d come.Still, lunch break came and I felt nothing. No hunger. No appetite. Just emptiness.Dylan and the others had already gone to grab lunch or ordered theirs in. I just stayed behind, staring out the glass window for a while before leaning back into my chair again. For days now, I haven’t been able to eat lunch properly. It’s like my body just shuts down at this hou

Camilla’s POV.When we got home, Raymond didn’t waste a second before stepping out of the car. He walked around and gently opened the door on my side like a true gentleman.“Wow, what a gentleman you are,” I teased with a playful smirk.“Well, you are my queen. I have to treat you like one,” he replied smoothly and placed a soft kiss on my arm.Immediately, I felt my cheeks heat up. That man knew how to make me melt without even trying. He pointed at my face and burst into laughter. “It’s nice seeing you blush like a high school kid.”I rolled my eyes and straightened up. “I wasn’t blushing,” I said with fake confidence. “It’s just that the weather is hot tonight.”He smirked knowingly. “Is that so?”“Yes, it is,” I said, holding my ground.“Okay then, let’s try something new,” he said, taking hold of my right hand. Before I could ask what he meant, he began placing slow, lingering kisses from the tip of my fingers up to my wrist and forearm. A trail of goosebumps followed every kiss,

Camilla’s POV,Raymond sat there for a few seconds, silent and still. I kept staring at George, who lay so small and fragile on the hospital bed, hooked up to machines that beeped softly in the quiet room. My heart ached in a way I hadn’t expected.I couldn’t bring myself to speak. I couldn’t find the words to explain what I’d been hiding all this time. The guilt weighed heavily on me, like a thick fog pressing down on my chest. I should have told him. I should have told him weeks ago when everything changed.“Raymond,” I finally called, my voice trembling as I moved closer to him. I sat down on the chair beside him, feeling so exposed under his gaze. I reached out and took his arm gently, needing contact.“Raymond, I’m sorry,” I said, my voice barely a whisper, thick with regret. He didn’t look at me right away. Instead, his eyes were fixed on George, his brow furrowed deep in thought. “What’s wrong with George?” he asked quietly.I swallowed hard and took a deep breath. “Weeks ago…

Camilla’s POV.“Well, aren’t you going to let me in?” Raymond’s voice broke through my daze.I had been standing there for a few seconds, still trying to take in the sight of him. After all this time apart, seeing him now was like a shock to my system. His smile, the way he looked at me—it was both comforting and terrifying.“Yes, I am, baby,” I said softly and kissed him, trying to sound casual. “I just wasn’t expecting you anytime soon.”“That’s not enough,” he said, pulling me back in for another kiss.I pulled away just enough to look into his eyes. “You should have called me, Raymond.”He grinned mischievously. “Well, I could have, but I wanted to surprise you. Also,” he said, reaching behind the suitcase he had just pulled in, “this is for you.” He handed me a beautiful bouquet of flowers.“Oh, Raymond, they’re beautiful,” I said, touched, and hugged him again.“I’m glad you love them, love. I couldn’t bear staying apart from you for much longer.”I walked inside with the flower

Camilla's POV. I followed him quietly toward his office, my heart still pounding from what had just happened at the boardroom. Why would he pull a stunt like that? Did he want the entire staff at Torrance Memorial to start whispering about us? About our past? The memory kept replaying in my head like a broken record. He had leaned in so close—too close. His breath brushed against my skin, and then his eyes trailed to my lips, pausing for just a second, long enough to make me forget where we were. When our eyes locked again, something in my chest fluttered wildly, and I hated it. Hated how easily he could still affect me after everything. Was this his plan all along? To break me down bit by bit until I lost every ounce of sense I’d managed to hold on to? I shook my head, trying to banish the thought. “Are you okay?” he asked. I blinked, realizing I’d stopped walking. We were already at his office, and he was holding the door open, waiting for me to step inside. “I’m fine,” I m

Lawrence’s POV.I drove as fast as I could toward Torrance Memorial right after hanging up with Dylan.“Well, sir,” he had said, “put her in a tight spot. Make her unable to avoid you.”“Go on,” I said, eyes on the road but mind completely on his idea.“You’re the Director of Torrance Memorial, right?”“Yes,” I replied, already feeling where this was going.“And she’s working there?”“She is.”“Then why not use your position to talk to her? She can’t exactly refuse a meeting with her boss.”I didn’t say anything for a moment. But I felt a smirk tug at the corner of my mouth. It was simple. A little manipulative, maybe. But effective.“As an employee of your hospital, she doesn’t have much choice,” Dylan continued. “Nobody would even question it.”By the time I reached the hospital, I had made up my mind. I wasn’t going to let her keep dodging me like this. Not after everything.I walked past the private ward usually kept for the director and made my way into my rarely used office at T
