Cring! Cring! Cring!

Naomi's phone kept voicing like it was calling its owner by the name to pick it up.

“Who's bugging me at this time of the day?!” she shrugged, sluggishly sending her arm to reach the crying gadget beside her where she was relaxing after a tedious annoying floor scrubbing session she never was prepared for.

When she brought it to her face, her face fell. She slid the green indicator up and the call connected.

“Hello..” silence stretched.

“Nao–mi. I have caused you enough and I am not even asking you to forgive…”

“Can you catch this crab, Mrs. Laurent?” Naomi cut in. Sharp. Cold and edgy. She buried her forehead into her palms and let out a heavy, lifeless sigh that came forth without a sound.

“What do you want from me this time?” she pauses, expecting no answer and continued

“Money? I've got none. All thanks to your selfish desire. I have been promoted to the position of a cleaner in the DV House and not just a cleaner, a regular cleaner who washes toilets too. I

Naomi got the role of a cleaner at the DV’s Fashion House. Not close to her expectations, but she had found peace unspeakable here.No drama. Just work a good relationship with every staff– against her initial resolution to keep an uptight body language to keep people away from her personal life. Her encounter with Ethan a month after she stepped out of Jay's office lingered in her mind. The wounds of betrayal she carried came fresh the moment she bumped into Ethan’s hard physique. She felt disgusted. And quickly shook her body off his plank surface. That once safe haven became alien. What erupted more anger in her insides was the moment Jay, of all people, demanded of her to apologise to Ethan for messing up his day or lose her few minutes old jobs.“Hi, Tracy.” The receptionist greeted Naomi with a beaming smile.“Hey, sloppy head.” She responded with a weak smile. Looking tired and worked up.“You don't look too great.” She closed the distance between them to inspect Naomi's face

The glaring sun glistened on the surface of the anklet on her left leg, on the visible part of her round legs. Her black skirt, which went a little below her knee, hugged her thigh perfectly, same with the white long-sleeved shirt, leaving her curves vulnerable to the eyes. Her blonde hair sat across her shoulders, glittering at each step she made. The sun greeted her face just before she stepped into the DV's House entrance. As she walked in, her flat heels shoes left no trace of her presence, yet every eye converged to her spot. Her fragrance had made a loud announcement to every nostril, far and near, without saying a word.A few more steps, and she's standing right before the receptionist with a beaming smile that infected the receptionist as well. Before now, she had sworn to remain uptight with every worker in that place to create a barrier that would lead no flesh into the skeleton she had been breeding in her cupboard.“Good morning, Madam.” She beckoned, throwing a harmles

“Traitor!” That voice rang a bell. Soothingly familiar, and raw like Naomi's.He couldn't wrap his head around everything that played out the previous night. From the hijack of the meeting by unknown men in black, a meeting he had made extra efforts to keep secret from every ear by faking an emergency trip and informing his family that he'd be gone but for a day.A heavy sigh escaped his thoughts. Wait a minute, who was that guy who drove into the scenario and acted all like a superhero? He felt his heart burn with something familiar, something like jealousy, disgust, and anger. And why did he sweep her off her feet and place her on his shoulder like they've been having multiple orgasms every other day?“Damn!” his thoughts escaped his mouth, and he slammed his fisted hand against the white-painted wall of his cosy office. He shouldn't have gone closer to her. Not even the breeze is permitted to blow that close to her skin.“I will find that bastard and relieve him of his hands.” He

Four days whirled past, yet, no response from Jay Cobbs. Each time she dialled the numbers on the card, she only got one ‘not available’ response. Then she resolved to send an email. Like a curse, her email inbox, spam, primary, etc., remains dried like the sand in the desert, and cold like her heart was since the last time she sent that email. She kept tapping on the headboard while the body was sprawled on the body carelessly. Her eyes were dry as though they were going to crack anytime soon.“I'm not moved. I've seen more terrible times like this.”She muffled to herself, bringing her left fingers to her hair, caressing a bulk of strands. She chuckled and continued. “An ice cream treat after a meeting with delusional Damian wouldn't be bad. Now, I'll be sure I have nothing left on me.” She ran her hands to the other end of the bed’s headboard and grabbed her phone, brought it to her face, swiped it open and made for her archived messages box.OLD OLL REFINERY, 20:00 GMT“Hahaha, Da

Sometimes, a carefree living rewards the best peace of mind money can not buy. That has been Naomi's slogan, which she outrightly lived by.Job hunting became a threat as she could not present any of her identification cards or Social Security Number, which had her personal details, perhaps wouldn't tally with her new identity, face and name. The past weeks had run mad, since Clara had to leap back to work in China.Bills blew their horns, which bellowed louder than her bank account balance. She just had to get a Job before the little she had saved over the years ran into zeros. But now. How? What now?Something clicked. The gold-like business card from Jay-Cobbs.Now, this is risky. “I have to do this. No one is coming to save me.” She whispered to herself. She went to the wardrobe and buried herself in between her luggage, searching and searching until a quick golden reflection flashed. She made for the card, smiling like one who had lost her mind.Memories galore about Jay dunking

“Believing this is a little too uneasy. I can't bring myself to a place of accepting what you have just said, girl. Are you sure about this?”Naomi hesitated to say a word. She ran her fingers on her palm, massaging it carefully, right at the bandaged spot where she had sustained injury the previous day while cleaning up broken pieces of glasses that were shattered on the floor. She let out a heavy heave. “Like I said. My biological mother can do anything for the pay,” she said casually. Then added. “It's a boy.” Clara raised her eyebrow, which was accompanied by one side of her lips. Then she separated her lips to say:“Miss Poetry, can you hit the nail wherever you want to?”“What don't you get? Natasha just birthed another arrogant blood.”“Ou!!” Clara gasped in awe. But soon, her face dropped as she noticed the frailty of dissatisfaction boldly spelt across Naomi's face.“Just cry all you want tonight, I won't lift an arm to wipe those crocodile tears. I need my sanity, too.”Na
