Such foolish words from an Alpha. I thought you were the best man for the job and that's why I assigned you to get the gold pieces,” Vulcan's eyes blazed with intense fury. “But what did you do? You let them steal my gold pieces! I should have your head chopped off!”Kieran clenched his jaw as the harsh words hit him. The sound of horses' hoof reverberated through the pack. As they came closer to the well-known Ridgewood pack house Selene and her warriors rode hard, the strong legs of their horses hammering the ground. A feeling of relief and achievement permeated the air. The mission was successful. Pulling on her reins, Selene brought her horse to a halt as the pack house appeared. Her boots landed gently on the ground as she dismounted with a graceful leg swing. She was followed by her men all of whom were formidable figures in armor with helmets over their faces. A few of the warriors retreated to the end of the group after Selene gave a pointed signal. Heavy leather bags clinked with a pleasing sound as they started to unstrap them. They were loaded with gold taken from Alpha Kieran and his men. With heavy footsteps, the men dragged the bags to the pack house's entrance. She entered after pushing open the big wooden door. She was welcomed by the cozy fire and the well-known scent of woods

The steel flashed in the sunlight.Kieran had no time to react let alone pull out his own weapon. Stunned, he watched as the tiny sharp blade approached. The old man made a viper-like motion. As he lunged forward, Kieran's right knee was deeply pierced by the dagger. Kieran gasped as a searing, sharp pain erupted through his leg. It was a fatal blow. The old man swung the dagger with trained accuracy, cutting Kieran's horse's leg before Kieran could even start to comprehend the pain. The strong horse let out a fearful, high-pitched sound. The weight of the animal caused the leg to give out and buckle. The huge beast moaned horribly and fell sideways, hitting the ground with a heavy crash. With his own leg now badly injured, Kieran was flung violently from the saddle. The air left his lun

Two weeks later The sun's golden rays shone on the broad dusty road as it stood high in the clear sky that afternoon. Alpha Kieran and his trusted men were on a very important mission. They had a long and difficult journey through the center of the region to get to the Elder's quarters. The only sounds were the creaking of a heavily loaded carriage and the steady thud of hooves on the ground. And the air was heavy with the smell of dry earth and pine. On his strong black horse, Kieran rode as the leader, a dominant presence. He was alert and his gaze was fixed on the surroundings. With grim and determined expressions, his men trailed behind him in a close formation. The sturdy wooden carriage at the center of their convoy was groaning under the weight of their valuable cargo. The gold pieces of the packs were gathered in one location. And the bags of gold pieces inside clinked and moved with each bump in the road. Marcus, the carriage driver, was a young broad-shouldered warrio
