Chapter Two

I pushed the glass door open and stepped into the office. Everywhere was buzzing with doctors running to their respective assignments.

I wasn't that busy today; there has not been any supernatural patient for now.

I only had to run routine check-ups on what the doctors have been doing so far. I was one of the directors, and Kelly is my assistant since my family owns the hospital. That also means I only operate on special occasions For wealthy patients and supernatural beings.

Kelly had already gone up to my office, which was on the second floor, while I stopped to greet one of our philanthropists, who just signed us a generous check yesterday. When we were done talking, I started walking up to my office.

Mrs. Valerie West, the hospital receptionist, was writing something in a book. She is one of those people you call a yenta's mouth, but she is good at her job. I guess that is why she still works here.

"Good morning, Alix," she said. Did I also forget to mention that she is one of those who like to call me by my name? She thinks that we are close friends after I saved her from being fired once. I only did that because she was pregnant then; I couldn't just let them fire a pregnant woman over a little mistake.

"Good morning, Mrs. West. How are Edward and Sophia?" I asked just so I wouldn't appear to be rude.

Oh, Alix, it is so nice of you to ask about Edward and Sophia. Can you tell why I am glowing?" She asked, smiling.

Pluck my life. Did I also forget to say that she is an oversharer?

"How could I ever guess it right?" I asked with fake enthusiasm.

"Edward took us to his family's beach house; it was so amazing, tanning in the sun, and him confessing his undying love for me every single time I am so...

"Blessed", we both said at the same time.

She wanted to continue, but I beat her to it. "You are Mrs. West; that was amazing. Bye." I rushed off before she starts another one of her stories.

I took the elevator to my office, and Kelly was on my seat holding a cup of coffee and waiting for me.

"What took you so long?" she said, putting a stop to whatever she was doing on my laptop.

"Mrs. Valerie," I replied, leaving her to fill in the rest of the information by herself. A few seconds later, she burst into laughter.

"You were stuck in one of Edward's conversations with her again? If only you had let them fire her."

"Yes, I was; they went to a beach house this time. Besides, it's a little too late to start regretting saving her.

"Do you? "Kelly asked me.

"Nope, Firing someone over nothing is not allowed in my dictionary."

"Awwww, well, don't complain now," Kelly mocked.

"Did you have the compilation of all patient's files for the routine checkup?"

"Are we still doing that?" she asked, handing me the file.

"Sure, let me grab a few things, then we can start."

**

"I can use some caffeine right now," I said to Kelly. We were done with our routine check and we were going back to my office.

"Should I go get them?"

"Nope, send Alice to bring it up; our shift is almost over, but we still have a few things to do before going home."

Just then, My phone started ringing, and I brought it.

"Hello, Joe," I said.

"Alix, Where are you right now?"

"I am coming back from the routine checkup and am headed to my office. Any problem?"

"Can you make a quick stop at my office?"

"Umm, sure, I will be there in five," I said, and the line went dead.

"Why is Joe calling you?" Kelly asked.

"I don't know, maybe he has some hospital business to discuss," I shrugged.

"Do you think Stephen asked...?"

"Hey, I'm here; Stephen has to go through me to get you okay," I said, and I put my hand in hers and then squeezed it.

Okay," she said, and she faked a smile.

"Let me go see Joe so we can head out already. Don't finish the coffee, or I swear I'm going to roast your ass."

"You can't do that, so two middle fingers to the haters," she said and sauntered away.

**

Joe Harper was my father's beta before he died. The man is loved by many pack members because he is fair and just, unlike my brother Stephen.

But once Stephen assumed the post of Alpha, he was sent to New York with his family. He called it an honor to manage our investment, But in an actual sense, it was an insult to him. Stephen always liked to watch his back, since he knew no one liked him.

"I'm here to see Mr. Harper," I said to his secretary Maggie (an omega she-wolf).

"He is expecting you, Director Stone," She said, then opened the door for me.

I opened the door, taking in my environment. Joe raised his head from tons of paperwork and looked at me, smiling.

"Alix, have a seat."

"Joe, you called?" I said as I was taking a seat.

"How have you been? Sorry,  dear, I have been so busy lately," he said, checking my face As if something was written there.

"I'm holding up like how every exiled wolf holds up," I shrugged.

"You were not exiled; you were just sent to manage our investment in the human world," Joe objected.

I scoffed, "You don't even believe that yourselves, so good luck selling the idea to me."

He shook his head and said, "I feel like I should check on you more often."

I rolled my eyes. "Why am I here?"

"We have a patient, A Lycan from the Royal family."

"You want me to take care of him, Is that it?"

He nodded. Not exactly. He is a possible investor for one of our pack's new businesses, So your brother wants you to take him around."

"Why me and which business?"

Joe sighed, "Mr. Maynard wants to meet one of the doctors to ask a few questions. I can't tell you which business."

I rolled my eyes and said, Well, tell Stephen that I don't want to know anyway. Would that be all?"

He nodded. "Stephen also asked you to pick up your phone. Before I forget, I will be traveling to Midnight Pack tomorrow. Do you want to tag along?

I rolled my eyes and said, Bye, send me everything I need to know before they arrive tomorrow."

Joe has been trying to matchmake me forever, Trying to drag me to every event he could think of.

When I walked into my office, Kelly was biting her fingers. A gesture she does when she is nervous. As soon as she sighted me, she stood up.

"And?"

And what? I rolled my eyes.

"What is the problem?" she asked fearfully.

"I have to take care of an investor for Stephen."

She exhaled  "But why did Joe want to tell you in person?"

"Maybe because he is a Lycan prince."

"Okay, that's good news," Kelly said, then started arranging the files.

"Let's do that tomorrow; our shift will be over in five minutes."

"Okay, let's go," Kelly said.

I grabbed my bag and followed her.

"I'm so going to rock those Jimmy Choo heels tonight."

"What is happening tonight?" I asked, and she turned, facing me.

"You better be joking; one of the best parties of the year is happening tonight. Bruce Black is hosting it; I have been reminding you forever."

"Oh sh*t, I forgot about the party of the "king of the night, big deal," I said and rolled my eyes.

"It's a big deal; all the hot species of men will be there."

"Um, I can't go because I've got nothing to wear. I mean, do we still have to go? I have to prepare for the investor tomorrow afternoon."

"Duh, we are still going; I ordered something for you. I knew this would happen, and F.Y.I., asking if I still want to go is like asking if my butt is sexy. Damn everybody knows it. Even though this cloth doesn't showcase much,

"Kelly Alexandra Pitt, Shut up for Goodness sake."

Fine, I'm just saying; besides, you will nail every question tomorrow."

I smiled. "You are right about that though. Are we going home straight, or Do you have anywhere to go, I want to discharge Soto? I asked.

Nope, let's go home and prepare for the party."

I rolled my eyes and slid into the car and Soto closed the door of The limousine before going to the front.

Soto was one of our pack members; Stephen sent him with me so he could tattle on me for him. He also serves as our driver.

"Why are you so eager to go to this party? I asked.

"As I said earlier Because many people will be there, and that also means many hot kinds of stuff freshly brought out from the oven of handsomeness," Kelly said, closing her eyes and putting her hands together, then she exhaled.

"Your boyfriend, Levine, will be very pleased, and I am sure your mate, wherever he is, will be pleased by this line of thought."

"First, let me not be offended, because I dumped Levine last week, and I am with Mason now. Besides, we are just friends with benefits. My mate has refused to come; I am going to be twenty-five soon, So I may have to deal with the fact that I have no mate."

"Kelly......................." I started.

"You should too, I am just two years older than you, so maybe You can have someone in your temple of pleasure. I mean, it should be withering now."

"Ha ha ha, funny. My personal life is none of your business, not to mention that the men there may be dangerous."

Oh, baby, you don't have a personal life.  Besides, haven't you heard of the adage that says, The more dangerous, the more exciting?"

"There is no adage like that," I countered.

"You're getting so smart, Dr. Alix Stone."

Be careful; I could send you back to Stephen."

"Jeez, Don't talk about that asshole."

I laughed. "Speaking of that, who is this Mason you are with now?"

"Oh, Mason is a piece of cake; I met him at the fund-raising ceremony."

I shook my head and said, "I don't remember."

"The person who represented Lockwood Darby law firm, His father owns it."

"Oh, You mean Mason Lockwood? Wow, nice catch."

.

Thanks." She pushed her ponytail to one side and smiled at me.

"I pray this one lasts longer than a few days."

Bitch," She said, and she gave me the middle finger.

Slut!" I retorted.
