-Prologue-

RAMON

"Eat your food Ramon!"

Mom says for the second time now in a row. It is funny how I am a thirty-two year old man but mom still treats me like I am still some kid in kindergarten.

I sigh. "I am not hungry, mom."

She looks up instantly.

"You have not had anything since you came back!"

I came back today in the morning.

I was finally released from jail. After five  long, sad years behind bars, I was finally set free.

I am free...

"That is because I am not hungry, Mom," I respond as politely as possible.

"I made you your best dish and now you

are not going to eat?" she grumbles. "Do you know how much time and energy it took for me to make it just for you?"

First of all, spaghetti with minced meat is not my favorite dish. It was my little sister's best dish.

But I do not want to stress her up.

"Okay mom!" I sigh. "Here... I am eating, happy?"

I put a spoonful in my mouth and her creasy face breaks into a smile.

"I had missed having someone to eat with at the table, you know... " she says with a sad smile.

It must be lonely inside this cold, lonely house.

I wish dad never got into an accident.

Mom would be happier... Dad used to make her happy...

"I missed you mom."

She smiles sweetly as she digs into her food.

"Have you seen Camilla lately?" I ask abruptly.

She chokes and glares at me.

"Never ever mention that witch's name in my house!"

I knew she would get angry at the  mention of Camilla.

She hates her!

I have been avoiding to ask her but I assumed she would tell me something... Anything about her...

"It is your name too..." I tease.

"Then I will have to change it!" she snaps. "So never mention her name in my house ever again!"

Silence stretches for a moment then she heaves a sigh, "Why did you have to spoil my mood and ask about that witch?"

I stare at mom.

"She has my child. Your grandchild."

"I do not want anything to do with that witch!" she snorts.

"Stop calling her a witch mother! She is the mother of your grandchild... At least have some respect for her!"

She snickers. "Why are you defending her Ramon! That cursed witch is the reason you have been behind bars for five good years!"

"Because I killed her dad!"

"And what did her dad do to you!" she  taunts. "Huh?"

Silence stretches between us.

She scoffs. "I thought so too..."

"But it is her dad that did it. Not Camilla!" I defend.

She scowls at me. "I told you not to mention that... name in my HOUSE! Now get back to your Damn food, Ramon!"

I get back to my food and eat reluctantly.

One thing is for sure, I will not stay under the same roof with this woman. Not because I do not love her, but because she does not want me to be with my woman and my baby.

I will go look for Camilla in Kingwood.

I need to see her. I need to see our baby. You do not know how much it pained me that I was not present as a father for five years.

But I will make it up to my baby...

I will make it up for all those years lost...

I wonder how he or she looks like?

I hope he or she has Camilla's dark eyes and her beautiful smile...

Mom suddenly looks up at me sharply.

"And do NOT think of going around in Kingswood looking for that woman. Do not waste your time, Son!"

Is this woman psychic? How did she know exactly what I was thinking?

I stare at her in bewilderment.

"I heard she does not live in Kingswood anymore," she continues. "And no one seems to know where she lives now. Not even her friends... Only God knows which hole she is hiding in now."

No!

That can not be true!

If that is true, that means it will be hard looking for her now? What if she flew to Africa? Or Europe? Or Asia!

No! No!

I try to hide my shock.

"That is just a rumour... Camilla would never leave Kingswood. It is where her entire life is. It is where her friends and her family and her company and everything is!"

I try to convince myself.

"She gave the company to her Mom, I heard... And about friends and family, we both know that that witch cares about no one but herself!"

I grit my teeth and bang the table angrily

"Her name is Camilla!"

Mom is startled, her eyes dilating in shock.

"You raise your voice at me? Your mother? Because of a woman who betrayed you and embarrassed you and dragged your name in the mad and abandoned you and took your love for granted? She has never once come to see you all those five years! That is a woman who clearly doesn't give a shit about you, Son! Read between the lines and move on! There are millions of beautiful and intelligent girls - "

" But it is Camilla I want! " I cut her off. " It is  Camilla that has my baby! "

She smirks. " But she does NOT  want you! Listen, Son. If that... Woman hurts you again, she will know where you got those murderous genes from. That is a promise I intend to keep, Ramon. So, if you do not want anything to happen to her, just stay away from her and live your life. "

I stare at her sternly.

" You wouldn't dare hurt her! "

"Do NOT try me son. I would do anything to protect you from pain. Even if it means going to the extend of KILLING!"

I stretch my hand out to her and squeeze her wrinkled hand.

"You are my mother and I get that you want to protect me because you want the best for me. I truly appreciate that." I say. "But I am an adult, Mom. I can do all that by myself. And I can make my own decisions. So, I will look for Camilla and our child whether you like it or not! She and that baby are my family just like you!"

Mother stares at me blankly, not pleased by what she is hearing at all!

"I will find her..."

I pause.

"And I will tell her the whole truth about what her dad did to me!"
