As soon as I got to a dark alley inside the town, I shifted and slipped my clothes back on. I peeped into the streets. Just as I predicted, the town was in disarray. People were slamming their doors shut, and soldiers were rushing toward the hill I had just come from.

I smirked. That would keep them busy for a while.

Snow had begun to fall, the rising fog making it almost hard to see. But I moved through it effortlessly, my instincts guiding me. Finally, I found the cell. No guards. I slipped through the big entrance door and shut it quietly behind me. My eyes adjusted quickly to the darkness. No faint light filtered in as the sun was long gone.

A pang of PTSD but me like a dagger. My breath caught as images of this cell tore through my mind. My eyes watered, and my anger surged. I wiped the tears gathering there and kept walking down the passage.

I saw myself again; cold, broken, in pain, lying on the floor of that cursed cell. And I saw June in his; fighting for his life, infected i

  • THE REVENGE OF THE WHITE WOLF    CHAPTER NINETY

At first I didn't feel anything. My mind was blank, and I felt light, like I was floating in the air. I just stared into space, my face devoid of any expression as the realization of what Axton just said dawned on me.“What?” I gasped out, my voice caught in my throat.Axton's head dropped, and he exhaled.“That night when we fought with the lycans," he began, avoiding my eyes. "I was washing up on the lake, and I perceived him. I chased him down and caught up with him. He was crying, asking how you were and saying that he just wanted to check on you.”As I listened, I slowly felt anger surge through me like a boiling pot waiting to spill. I didn't know whether to be mad at my dad for having the guts to come look for me or at Axton for not telling me as soon as it happened. It's been over a month, and I'm just getting to know now? What use is this information to me now?“I know you're mad at me that I didn't inform you as soon as it happened," he said, looking at me apologetically. “B

ARIES’ POV:“I’m not allowed affection. I can't sacrifice being the White Wolf just because I want to know how it feels to be touched. I have to give one up for another…”My words echoed loudly in my head. Even though they hurt me, they were the truth. I'll never be allowed to know what being loved affectionately feels like, never to feel the warm touch of a man. I'm destined to remain this way. It was heartbreaking, but it was a necessity. Except if the moon goddess suddenly decides that such tradition should no longer be observed, then I'm going to live like this till my last breath on earth.I stared at Axton's figure outside in pity. Somehow I blamed him for letting himself fall for me. I barely spent a week in his pack; he barely knew me, yet he was so quick to fall in love with me. And to think of how stupid it was of him to leave starting his life somewhere else, somewhere nice, to instead choose living with me, in the woods, far away from civilization and human contact. He cho

I stared down at him in disbelief. What was he doing out here at this odd time of night? He looked distraught as he sobbed uncontrollably. I stood there awkwardly, not knowing what to say. I moved a hand to cover my exposed genitals and then decided to sit down opposite him.For a while I just watched him sob. The story about how everyone reacted to the false news about Aries and her close friends wasn't new to me. Her parents were no different; they reacted worse. They were supposed to stand by her no matter what, but they also turned their backs on her and joined the others to point fingers.I couldn't imagine going through that. The little one in my pack did hurt me a lot; talk more of Aries' situation. And now they must've learned the truth; maybe that's the reason he's snooping around. Somehow I didn't feel pity for him. He deserved everything that got to him. That was his own daughter, his flesh and blood. But he didn't hesitate to join others in accusing her.A frown slowly fo

The fire crackled weakly nearby, its glow painting soft gold across her face. Her eyes began to drop, exhaustion finally taking its toll on her. I was careful not to shake so as not to stir her awake. Her breathing evened out after a while, soft and steady. For a moment all I could think of was how to improve myself, how to be worthy enough to be by her side, to protect her even when she was bigger and stronger than me. Somehow I was glad I took the bold step of leaving my pack. Now that I think of it, leaving my pack was something I never thought I'd ever do.I chuckled in anguish. They were so quick to push me away when things went south, forgetting how I risked my life in good, bad, or extreme weather conditions just to bring information to their plates. I grew up in Silver Crest and swore my life to the pack, but yet…yet! I guess the Moon Goddess knew that my fate wasn't in the pack, so she didn't place my mate there. If my mate were a fellow pack member, then I wouldn't have been

AXTON'S POV:My body ached so bad, and I limped on my left hind leg. I was guessing that the bone had shifted. I glanced at Aries. Her eyes were focused on the trees ahead; she looked lost in thought. Her white fur was stained with blood and dirt, but even with that, she still looked beautiful with a powerful aura radiating from her.To think that she was just 18, facing so many battles—more than anyone has ever faced—having so many enemies from different packs, and still expected to maintain her aura was both amazing and sad. The thought of what would have happened if I had let her come out here struck me. If I had listened to her and let her come out here alone. I would've been waiting back at the cave for her to come back, not knowing what was going on out here. It would've been just her facing those ugly beasts alone, surrounded by their vicious eyes and evil thirst for her power.I shook my head vigorously; I didn't want to think of what would've happened. Even though I knew she

  • THE REVENGE OF THE WHITE WOLF    CHAPTER EIGHTY-FIVE

The first one came fast, so fast. A flash of black fur and muscle tore through the air toward me, claws glinting like curved blades. I ducked and swung my claw upwards, slicing across his chest. The force sent him spinning into a tree, as dark red blood spilled from the wound. The others didn't flinch; they moved like a pack, synchronized and vicious. Axton leapt forward, sinking his teeth into the shoulders of the one with dreadlocks. The lycan roared and slammed him against the ground. The impact shook the soil beneath my paw.“Axton," I snarled and slammed into the lycan before he could strike again. We rolled across the earth, snapping, claws scraping. His breath was foul with blood and something darker: magic. I bit down on his arm, tearing through fur and flesh until I felt bone give way beneath my jaws. His scream of agony echoed through the trees.Another one lunged at me from behind, but Axton intercepted him, knocking him off balance. The forest became chaos, filled with howl
