Chapter 185

Mia turned to see Stefan taking long strides toward her, his face a mixture of relief and pride. Without hesitation, he wrapped her in a tight embrace, holding her as if he'd feared he might never see her again.

"You were amazing in there," he said when he finally pulled back to look at her face.

"Thank you for trusting me," Mia replied, her voice thick with emotion. The weight of everything they'd accomplished together settled between them.

"I trust you with my life, love," Stefan said softly, placing a kiss to her forehead before taking her hands. Together, they walked toward his car, fingers intertwined.

As they drove toward their penthouse, Mia's phone rang. Detective Martinez's voice filled the car through the speaker.

"Mrs. Meyer, we're moving on the warehouse now. Grey is inside with your father, and we have confirmation that your aunt is in the building."

Mia gripped Stefan's hand tighter. "Is she safe?"

"We're about to find out. Stay on the line."

  • THE SPITEFUL BRIDE: Marry To Rival's Son    ON THE DAY OF THEIR WEDDING, SAMUEL WASN'T THE GROOM

Chapter 188Two weeks later. The detention center smelled like bleach and concrete. Samuel Meyer sat on his narrow cot, staring at the wall across from his cell. Fourteen days had passed since the verdict and nobody had come to see him. Not Mia, not Ethan, not even his lawyers. He'd expected at least one of them would show up but the silence stretched on like everything else in this place. When footsteps echoed down the hallway, Samuel looked up. A guard stopped outside his cell and jangled his keys."Meyer. You got a visitor."He stood slowly and smoothed down his orange jumpsuit. Finally. It had to be one of the kids. Maybe Ethan felt guilty about testifying against him or maybe Mia wanted closure. He followed the guard down the corridor toward the visiting room, his steps measured and calm. The visiting room had plastic chairs on both sides of a thick glass partition with phones mounted on the walls. Samuel walked through the door and stopped cold.It wasn't one of his children

  • THE SPITEFUL BRIDE: Marry To Rival's Son    HER NIGHTMARE WAS FINALLY OVER

Chapter 187The courtroom felt like it was holding its breath. Ethan's voice cracked as he continued his testimony, each word seeming to cost him something."My dad found out that my mom was cheating on him and killed her instead. After that he killed her lover too."The silence stretched until it felt unbearable. Then Ethan dropped the bombshell that changed everything."The man my father killed was Liam Chen. Grey's younger brother."Every head in the courtroom turned toward the back where Grey Chen sat. His broad shoulders tensed and his hands slowly curled into fists on his lap. The pain that crossed his face was raw and immediate. The prosecutor stood quickly. "Your Honor, the State calls Grey Chen to the stand."Grey rose from his seat like a man carrying the weight of the world. His heavy footsteps echoed through the silent courtroom as he walked to the witness box. When the bailiff held out the Bible for the oath, Grey's voice was steady but rough around the edges."I swear t

  • THE SPITEFUL BRIDE: Marry To Rival's Son    SHE WAS PLANNING TO KILL ELENA

Chapter 186The courtroom was so quiet you could hear the soft hum of the air conditioning. Mia sat in the witness chair, her hands folded over her growing belly, her voice steady as she faced the jury. She had been on the stand for over an hour, methodically destroying the image of Samuel Meyer piece by piece."Mrs. Sterling," the prosecutor said, adjusting his glasses, "can you tell the court how you first discovered evidence of your father's crimes?"Mia took a deep breath, her eyes briefly finding Stefan in the gallery. He nodded encouragingly, his face tight with barely contained emotion."I was at my friend, Elena's room about weeks ago. She had stepped to take a shower, and her phone was sitting on her bad when it buzzed with a message notification." Mia's voice was clear, but those who knew her could hear the underlying tremor. "I glanced at it without thinking, the way you might when someone's phone goes off near you."Samuel's lawyer, Marcus Wright, one of the most expensi

Chapter 184The silence that followed Samuel's call was deafening. Grey stared at the phone in his hands, his face pale as ash. He felt pity Mia who just listened to her father order her death like he was ordering for coffee.Mia looked at Grey, seeing the exact moment when his loyalty finally cracked. The man who had kidnapped her, threatened her, delivered devastating news about her mother's murder, now sat broken on a concrete step, staring at his phone like it might explode."I'm sorry " Grey whispered."You don't have to." Mia's voice was surprisingly gentle. "We need change the situation, that's what's important."Grey looked up at her, confusion replacing the despair in his eyes. "We?"Mia pulled out her phone and scrolled to her contacts. "Tell me, Grey, in all the years you've worked for my father, has he ever kept a promise that didn't benefit him directly?""I..." Grey thought for a moment. "No. Never.""Emma's treatment could have been successful two years ago. The medica

Chapter 183The phone hit the concrete with a sharp crack, the sound echoing through the alley like a gunshot. The kidnapper, stared at the shattered device as if it held the last remnants of his sanity."Emma," he whispered, his voice breaking on the name. "Emma, daddy's here..."But the line was dead, the phone's screen dark and fractured across the dirty pavement.Mia kept the gun steady, watching the man crumble before her eyes. Twenty minutes ago, she might have felt pity. Now, she felt nothing but the sharp edge of calculated fury."Your daughter has leukemia for years now," she said, her voice clinical. "Stage three. The experimental treatment at Tress Medical costs four hundred thousand dollars per cycle. Your insurance won't cover it."Marcus's head snapped up, eyes wide with something between terror and desperate hope. "How do you...""Know everything about you? Because I'm not the naive little princess everyone thinks I am." Mia took a step closer, the gun never wavering. "
