CHAPTER 9

“H.....h......how?” Grandma Kent was left stuttering, as she had no idea how he could manage the takeover with his meagre background.

“Liar…do you think everyone is as stupid as you! Coming here on your high horse to try to threaten me with your pathetic lies. I should get someone to kick you out of here, but let hear what nonsense you are going to continue spitting at me.”

She could not believe that after all this time, he could have the guts to come and lie to her face. He really thought that she was as stupid as he was.

“I figured that you would not believe me. In any case, I did not come here to fuss over such matters with you. I am simply here to inform you that despite your ambition, you will not be enjoying a single coin of the two hundred million you are expecting to receive.”

Grandma Kent was getting impatient with Zach and could not wait to get him out of her sight.

“Get to the point as quickly as you can. Your sight is making me disgusted and tired.”

“As her legal husband at the time of her death, I technically own everything in the Kent Family name. The company, this house, all the vehicles, and everything that is enjoyed by this family.”

Grandma Kent's face transitioned slowly from one of superiority to one of fear. In her enjoyment of all the family wealth, she had lost grasp of the fact that Zach was still married to Rachel, hence he was entitled to everything in her name.

“What do you plan to do?”

“Oh, don't worry. I will not be taking everything away from you at the moment. No, I will let you suffer in agony trying everything you can to take it away from me, while failing at every turn. Then right when you think you have succeeded, I will swoop in and leave in despair and agony. Just as I have been living all these years. Your entire family will pay for your sins.”

“I will also find out find happened five years ago. Should I find out that you or any member of this family had anything to do with this matter all those years back, I will make sure that you wish you were dead.”

The bloodlust emanating from Zach was enough to send shivers down Grandma Kent's spine. She was so scared that she had difficulty breathing.

Her eyes rolled back, and she slowly slid down from her high-back chair. She was having a heart attack.

Zach watched her writhe in pain as he walked out of her office. At the door, he signalled at the butler to look into the old lady.

The loud screams that emanated from the office could be heard all over the house. Pandemonium broke loose as everyone ran all over the house trying to find the source of all the chaos.

In the midst of all this chaos, Zach walked out of the mansion with a smile on his face. The purpose of his visit had been fulfilled.

He was sure that the old lady was too proud to tell anyone the truth of the conversation they had. It would lead to distrust and loss of the power that she had carefully developed all those years as the head of the household.

However, with slight manipulation, she could ensure that the family acted according to her will in regard to dealing with him. But no matter what she chose to do, he had plans on how to deal with her accordingly.

The only hurdle in all his plans was in dealing with Peter Crawford. He had yet to find a way to deal with him, hence he needed to take him out of the picture before proceeding with his plan.

*****

In another part of town, Spencer Kent, Grandma Kent's first son, was busy trying to organize a meeting with Peter Crawford.

He hoped that he could get Peter to help him take back the company that his mother had sold. Otherwise, he would end up penniless once his mother passed on.

He was hoping that Peter could use his influence in the city to rebuild their connection to York Enterprises, allowing them to retake their company. He could as well help them in getting rid of the Hastings Company that forced his family to sell a controlling interest in their company.

As he waited outside Peter Crawford's office, a very beautiful secretary came walking towards him.

“Mr Crawford will see you now. This way please.”

He was led through very heavy oak doors along a hallway that housed several secretaries and well armed bodyguards. Peter Crawford was not a man to be trifled with.

He was very lucky to get this opportunity.

As the door to the office was opened, he came face to face with a heavy set gentleman seated across the table. The scar running across his face was menacing enough to have shivers running down his spine.

“Have a seat and get on with it as quickly as possible.” Peter Crawford spoke up first in a fast and dismissive tone.

“I came regarding the matter we had spoken about the Kent Family. As you know, your interest in purchasing a piece of land in the company's name in the City centre has now been hampered by the new owner in the company.”

“I was hoping that you could come forward and speak to the new owner regarding the piece of land, or at the every least assist us in getting back the company. In return, we can even offer the piece of land for free as appreciation for your assistance.”

He was hoping that his gamble in gaining his assistance would pay off. If it did not, he would have to resort to a plan that could resort in the loss of his life.

“That piece of land is not enough to warrant the effort that it would take to assist you. After all, it would require a lot of resources to manage what you are asking of me. The only way I could assist you is if you offered the factory in the Midlands as well.”

Peter was asking too much of him, since the factory was the main source of income for the company. Giving it to him would result in the company bankruptcy. He had to turn to the second plan.

“I was hoping not to get to this, but you have to assist us. After all, you were involved in that matter from five years ago. About Rachel.”

The temperature in the room all of a sudden turned chilly.
