PROLOGUE 2

No one could believe what had happened.

“Do not try to insult my wife. You are the bad seed of the family yet you dare pass the blame to my wife? Don’t test me or else.....”

“Everybody quiet!” Grandma Grace roared bringing the entire room to a deep silence. “Zach, you have no right to speak in this family. Even though you are married to Rachel, you have no right to talk in front of me- “

“But I was trying to defend –“ “It's not your place to talk in my face or in front of the family. Let me investigate the issue my way unless you want me to compel Rachel to divorce you.” That statement got Zach to go silent in consideration.

“So Rachel, what did you do with my money? And don’t give me that same lie that you didn’t steal the money.” Grandma Grace was losing her temper with Rachel and was now shouting.

“Grandma, you know me. You know I would not do something as shameful as this.” Rachel said in tears as she knelt in front of Grandma Kent. She could not fathom why James would place the blame on her since this entire scheme reeked of his lies. If Grandma chose to believe James, she would whatever standing she had in the family and bring shame to the memory of her late parents.

“Fine, if you will not own up to your mistake, you will force me to take a step I do not wish to take. I will cut all ties with you and your husband. As compensation, I will take back everything you own since you refuse to return my money.”

“Grandma, you can’t do this! She did nothing wrong so you have no reason to punish her. You have no proof that she stole the money so can’t so this to her. That would lead to a decline in your reputation as a fair woman. Please, do not punish an innocent woman. If you want me to kneel, I will do so on behalf of my wife but you cannot treat her unjustly.”

“You cannot earn my forgiveness by kneeling. Unless you have my fifty million, I would be willing to forgive. If not, leave. Both of you. And never let me see your faces anywhere in this city. Otherwise, I will be forced to take legal action against both of you.”

The proclamation came as a shock to everyone. No one had expected Grandma Grace to mete out such a harsh punishment. Yet no one could challenge her decision. They could only watch the drama unfold.

“Guards, get these despicable people out of my face. Throw them into the streets with nothing except the clothes on their backs. They are not allowed to go back to their house. Everything they own will now be mine. Hope they can learn their lesson.”

Rachel was so shocked that she fainted but luckily caught her before she hit the ground. Not waiting for help from anyone else, he carried his wife out of the mansion in a hurry to rush her to the hospital. Luckily, a taxi came hurtling down the road and carried them to the hospital.

After an examination, the doctor came back to the room to talk to the couple. “Hello. Am doctor Sheldon. After conducting various tests, we have discovered that your wife is pregnant, at least 3 months along. She probably fainted due to shock or stress. She must not be exposed to these things at any cost unless you are willing to endanger the life of your unborn child.”

Her announcement made the couple very excited, but their impending doom was weighing too heavily on their hearts making it impossible for joy to reflect on their faces. Rachel was in so much shock that the only face she could make was bewildered. They were in for difficult times ahead. They knew that there was no way for them to raise their child in the current conditions if their predicament continued.

The doctor then walked out after giving some advice to the couple. Zack then decided to do the one thing he had sworn never to do. He decided to call a number he had labelled ‘Never Receive’. He had no other choice. He could not his heir grow up in poverty. He walked out of his wife’s room and walked a bit farther to prevent her from hearing the conversation.

“Hello, Master. How may I be of help?” The other party asked once the call went through.

“I am out of options. My wife is pregnant. We have been kicked out of the Kent family. What do you recommend?”

“I will be sending over a car to get you and your wife in an hour. This self-imposed exile has gone on way too long. You should be by your father’s side in the family enterprise.”

“Fine. One hour.” And he ended the call.

He went back to comfort his wife, who was still shedding tears in so much sorrow. “Honey, we have to leave. I have someone coming to pick us up in an hour. I will not let anything happen to you or our precious baby. I will give you everything your heart has ever desired. I promise you.”

“Don’t worry. I trust you.” They walked out hand in hand knowing that if they had each other, all would be well eventually. They then stopped at the side of the road to wait for the traffic flow to subside. Once it was clear to cross, they crossed together. But out of nowhere, a van came hurtling down the road.

Crash!! A woman was hurled quite the distance by the speeding vehicle. Without checking whether the woman was hurt, the driver of the black van took off without a moment’s hesitation.
