CHAPTER 8

Peter Crawford had very deep ties to the Garrett Family.

He had a role to play in the expulsion of Zach’s father from the Garrett Family and even his subsequent death.

A slow burning rage began to build within Zach.

Peter Crawford was a dead man walking. He did not care if he had to go through all his wealth or the entire city to get to Peter, but he had to do it all the same.

He then made a call, “I need you to call upon all the masters under me for a meeting. I need them at the mansion by the end of the day. I do not care if they at the bottom of the ocean or under the sea, I expect to find them waiting for me at the war room.”

Without even waiting for a reply, he hung up.

He slowly got up and decided to make a visit to the one place he had not planned to ever go back.

To the Kent Mansion.

He slowly walked out of his office and signaled his driver that they were heading out.

On the drive to the Kent Mansion, Zach pondered on his plan against Peter Crawford. Peter was protected by almost half the city. He had almost all the city politicians in his pocket, doing his bidding. They were mere puppets to his will.

While Zach had more resources at his will, he did not exercise the same power Peter Carwford held across the city. For his plan to be fully successful, he had to annex Peter’s power to prevent him from making a comeback.

The only way for him to do so was to take away his control over the city.

As he pondered his thoughts, the vehicle came to a stop at the Kent Mansion. There very few vehicles outside the mansion indicating that most of the family members were out working. He was aware that Grandma Kent had opted to work from home by converting one of the rooms in the mansion into a home office.

He slowly walked out of his car and walked to the door.

The house butler opened the door to a big shock. His mouth fell wide agape as he stared Zach.

He resumed his same old nonchalant look at Zach and asked with disdain, “What brings you to this house? If I remember correctly, you were kicked out of this household long ago.”

Even the servants had looked down on Zach back then, therefore, it was not unusual for the butler to speak to Zach in such a haughty tone.

‘Just tell the old lady that I am here to discuss very important matters. Otherwise whatever happens to this family will be on your head.”

Zach walked past the butler into the mansion without any regards for him. He could easily kick them all out as the majority owner of the family business with the mansion registered under the name of the business.

The butler silently walked away while instructing other servants nearby to keep a very close eye on Zach. He expected Zach to cause trouble at any time so he had to be prepared. After all, Zach was a well known good for nothing scoundrel.

A few minutes later, the butler returned. “The mistress of the household will see you now.” Zach followed the butler closely behind to a door at the end of the corridor. He then slowly opened the door to see a grey-haired woman seated on high back chair.

From his memory, Grandma Grace had aged more than he had expected. Everything that had been happening had taken quite the heavy toll on her health and wellbeing. But he wasn’t here to show concern.

With disdain in her voice she spoke up, looking up at Zach with so much hatred in her eyes, “If it isn’t the no-good useless murderous son of a b***h. What brings you came back here after I sent you away? You were never to return to this household. I wish you had died instead of my granddaughter, but this is the punishment I get for marrying her to you. You were both useless in the end.”

“Shut up you old hag!” Zach shouted as he stood up infuriated. Grandma Grace was shocked at Zach’s sudden outburst.

“Oh! So you have the guts to raise your voice at me? Who do you…”

Zach cut her off, “No, who the hell do you think you are? Insulting my late wife while you are the sole cause of her death. If it wasn’t for you she wouldn’t be dead.”

“How dare you insinuate I had something to do with her death? How dare you come to my house to insult me?” Grandma Grace slowly stood up out of her chair to glare at Zach.

Zach resumed his same old cold and aloof manner. He could not show weakness.

“Five years ago, she was hit by a black van. I have spent the last five years trying to find out who did it. And all the evidence points to this family. And since you are the head of the family, all the blame lies on your head. And in any case you know why you have the most cause to murder her. After all, you stole her inheritance.”

That bombshell got the old lady to sit down in shock and stare at Zach.

“Your late husband let everything owned by this family to Rachel. He simply appointed you a custodian of the inheritance until she got married and you were then to relinquish everything to her. But you could not due to you greed for money and power. Kicking her out was a way to make sure that she never found out about everything even if you know very well who stole the money. You are wondering how I know all this. You are wondering who else knows. You are wondering how you can prevent this information from going out as it would undermine your position in the family. And as her legal husband you know that everything you have coveted and had so far as a result of the company’s profits is rightfully mine. You are wondering how you can get rid of me.”

The old lady was trying to cover up her shock at all this information but was doing a poor job of it. Zach had caused a chink in her well put facade. Fear could be seen creeping in her eyes.

“Let me tell you why the little ideas in your idea won’t work. First and foremost, you recently signed away the majority shareholding in the company to an unknown party. You have tried and exhausted all your resources in trying to identify the new owner. But I know who the new owner is.”

“Me!”
