Chapter 5

Weston

I run across the field, sweaty and thirsty from a tough practice game. A few of my teammates dunk me on the back, and I clap hands with my Beta, Travis. As a linebacker, he is bigger than me, but he is a very friendly guy.

Travis grunts as he reaches to slap my shoulder. “That was a heck of a game, man!”

“Thanks,” I reply, taking a few steps back. “How’s the back?”

“It’s doing alright, but I won’t keep you.” He offers me a mischievous smirk before looking up at Meryn on the bleachers. My fake girlfriend needs a ride home, and I got her covered. The plan is to have my butler driving her home.

I flash him an amused grin. “See ya later.”

“Later!” He booms before he saunters away.

I keep a smile on my face as I approach Meryn. I’m actually surprised by how well things are going. Today has been going better than a hot knife through butter.
