Alien Rumors

Yesterday was a busy day. Who would have thought that my little brother and I would get such profit we never had before? It was tiring but it's all worth it. We can finally get much food and other things for our needs.

I am in the supermarket with my little brother to buy vegetables. Mother had other things to do so it's just the two of us who'll be taking care of the household.

"Sis, I would love another kind of dish. Why don't we try meat?" Adam, my little brother, suggested. But I gave him a stern look and told him that a kilo of meat is expensive. So we ended up buying just vegetables and some canned goods.

We were about to leave the supermarket when I heard something from the news on tv. My mind would love to leave and ignore it but my body won't cooperate. I stopped and watched the tv. There I saw news regarding UFO's or something they would call the unidentified flying object.

This isn't just the first time that this kind of news were on headlines. Rumors were already spreading and it's said that countless people have already seen such UFO's. But no matter how many were talking about it, there's no way in my life that I would believe such a thing, unless I have seen it with my own eyes.

"Hey, sis!" I went back to reality when Adam called me. He was already some distance away from me, waiting. I just shook my head and followed him, as I held bags full of vegetables. When we got home, we immediately arranged the things we bought and placed them in the kitchen.

"We have to prepare for an alien invasion!" My forehead knotted when mother suddenly came inside the house, panicked. I laughed at the thought. I don't even believe in aliens! Much more an alien invasion!

"Come on, mom. Don't make such a joke." I shook my head and continued what I'm doing.

I groaned in pain when a slipper flew towards me and hit the back of my head. I quickly shifted my gaze to mom and her eyes were serious, I don't know what to react.

"You brat! Aliens are real! When will you start to believe that they exist? When several UFO's landed on earth with some weapons and start to erase humanity?! Are you nuts?! Now, prepare your clothes and we'll start evacuating to a safer place! Much wonderful to the underground so aliens won't see us, nor will they throw anything that blows!"

"Mom, aliens aren't real! It's just your imagination! Who knows that there are just people trying to make a fool out of us by showing some kind of a toy so they can be identified as UFO's?!" I knocked her out of her senses by telling the truth. I think I already crossed the line here but I said what I said. Aliens, my ass. If they really exist, why would they chose the earth? Have they started to invade Mars too? Or maybe they are Martians?

"You..." Mom controlled her temper and tried not to shout at me. I sighed in defeat and walked to my room. Guess I have no choice but to follow her order. Just make sure that we won't look like fools hiding from creatures who don't even exist in the first place.

After preparing all the things that our mom told us to prepare, we left the house locked. I noticed mom hasn't talked a word since the last time we argued and I can't help but look at her. She gave our house a quick glance before we moved on.

I sighed and shifted my gaze to Adam who's with me and just like me, he noticed something different. Adam and I don't really believe in aliens. We just thought of it as some kind of a fantasy that people would force to adapt in reality. People spreading fake news and false information just for fame. But when I take a closer look at mom, I realized that there is something more than this. Maybe all the things that happened, is happening and will be happening, aren't just made-up illusions and fantasies, but realities that are seemed to be unreal.

Our feet stuck on the ground when we noticed our surroundings started to darken. Just how fast the clouds move to cover up the sun and darkness seemed to be chasing after us!

"We're too late!" I heard mom madly talking to herself as she moved closer to us without even looking at us. She was too focused on her surroundings. I don't understand what's happening but all I know is, now I'm starting to really believe my mom.

My heart started to beat faster than normal when I noticed something above me. I haven't looked up to see what that thing is but I can feel how intimidating it is so I doubt if I should even dare see it.

"Adam, Princess, RUN!!!!!" I don't know what I should do when I heard from mom these words. I can clearly see in her eyes the complete fear. And I can't help myself but feel the same way too. It's the first time in my entire life that I ever get to see mom like this.

"M-mom..." I was too stunned to speak. My body's trembling. Anytime now I may end up lying on the ground, unconscious.

"Princess, listen to me!! You need to take Adam to a safe place!! Go!! Don't mind me!!" Mom continued.

I slowly faced Adam who's obviously scared because of what's happening. His knees on the ground, his hands covering his ears and his eyes were closed. I faced mom again.

"W-we can run away together, Mom. We-"

"I SAID RUN NOW!! DON'T MIND ME!! GO, PRINCESS!! SAVE YOUR BROTHER!!!" Her voice were like the tiger's roar. She's commanding me. I don't want to leave mom like this but there's nothing I can do but to follow her. I need to save Adam. I need to get him to a safe place.

A tear escaped from my eye before I turned my back on mom. I immediately grabbed Adam and ran away to where we don't even know. The only aim is to escape from all of this, I don't care where this will take us.

We left all the things we brought and spent time preparing. What matters is our lives and how we can escape from this.

I felt tears continuously falling down my cheeks making my sight blurry. I wiped it dry but it keeps on falling from my eyes.

"Sis, there!"

Adam pointed somewhere but because of my blurry vision, I can't see it clearly. He just took me to the place and then sat himself down. Looks like he found a place to hide. I sat down as well and leaned my back against a wall. Trembling in fear, I hugged my knees and cried endlessly.

What if we completely lost mom? Will Adam and I be able to survive this?
