Chapter 5

Seraphim

The Alpha's gaze was thoroughly focused on me, the more he walked towards me, the more I felt my air shift. His expression darkened the more he walked, it was as if a lot of questions were throbbing inside him.

The more he walked closer, the more I felt my life was within his hands and it was counted by him. I suddenly wished I could be teleported somewhere else even if it's for a brief moment.

“Who are you?”

That was the first word uttered by the man the moment he got to me..what does he mean by that? And without giving me a chance, my neck was strongly gripped by him with my legs dancing in the air.

I was mercilessly being choked by the man. The more he's choking, the more the look on his face seems haunted.

Inside me, my wolf stirred, whimpering in pain. My wolf and I share a bond; if I am in pain, my wolf would feel it..

“Serena….”

He muttered with pain in his eyes as he stared coldly at me, sending shivers down my throat. If this man continues, I doubt I would survive after being choked by him.

I was carried away by the excessive pain that for a moment, I didn't hear the name he called earlier. Until my mind went back to the name. My heart stammered in pure confusion. I don't know if I am overthinking, but the way he stares at me seems like he's fighting himself for hurting me.

“Please, Alpha…” I cried out in agony.

“I said who are you…?” he thundered murderously.

“A…nd who are you expecting me to be?” I stammered to say in pain. The moment I said that, I noticed his expression flickered.

I swallowed hard, my hand trembling and dancing in the air while regretting my actions. I couldn't help but think I should have stayed silent.

“Sharp tongue, huh?” he said with gritted teeth. “You have a minute to answer that question, who are you?!” his aura lashed out, sending goosebumps to every inch of my body.

“I am seraphim” I struggle to say amidst the unspeakable pain going through my body system. For a moment, I regret yielding to my father's words.

By now, everyone was silent, even if a needle fell off at the moment, it would be heard.

“Oh father, see the mess you put me all in the name of your selfishness.” I thought to myself and didn't know when my tear fell on the man's hands. Within the span of a second, I was mercilessly flung to the nearest wall nearby.

Luckily for me, the guards were able to catch me before my head could hit the wall. And who knows if I would be breathing steadily if my head had hit the wall.

He began walking towards me and finally stopped in front of me..I couldn't figure out what was going through the man's mind, but he seemed like something was haunting him inwardly.

I closed my eyes as I waited for whatever would befall me. By now, the Alpha was an inch away from me. After all, I had thought about it for a long time. I knew the moment I stepped inside the pack, my survival would be based on fifty percent.

“Brother, you should deal with her later.” A feminine voice spoke up, stopping the man from walking closer to me. I needed no one to tell me who the voice belonged to even though I have only heard her voice today..

The voice was none other than Michelle's. I was finally able to open my eyes and could see his eyes burning on me without removing them. He looked like he wanted to kill me, but something was keeping him from doing it, which I couldn't figure out.

“You,” he muttered before me, but I wasn't able to hear the man's words, or maybe I heard him and was still spacing out and couldn't process his words.

“Can't you hear the Alpha speaking to you? Such audacity!” Michelle sneered.

Before I could react to her words, a sharp elbow slammed into my ribs. Pain shot every inch of my body, and I did not know where the pain was coming from because I was standing alone. The guards left my side the moment they helped me up.

“Yes, alpha…” I whimpered in pain trying so hard to steady my breath and voice. I don't know why, but I feel like the pain must have come from someone lurking nearby me. But who could it be?

“Could it be the Alpha?” I pondered but I figured out he would have made his pain more obvious rather than lurking in the dark.

“Could it be Michelle? The answer is no! Because she had stopped her brother from hurting me earlier.

And the last but not the least that my gaze fell on was the beta behind Alpha Silas, he was staring intensely at me while I was doing the same.“You dare to space out in front of me?” Alpha Sila's voice thundered, bringing back my attention.

“Which pack are you from?” My eyes dilated. I didn't know what to say for a moment. I forced myself to remain still, even as every nerve in me screamed to recoil. The man was trying to figure out something unclear but that isn't the point.

The point is that telling him my pack could lead to an instant death on the spot. But I know I had to say it because there's probably no way out.

“Midnight pack,” I muttered solemnly, fidgeting with the hem of my fingers, unable to look at the man. Everyone was taken aback by the name of my pack because they weren't expecting someone from my pack.

I expected the man to lash out, but there was no movement from his end, which made me raise my head a little bit to look at him, and our gaze met. But there's something about his gaze, he wasn't surprised.

Without saying a word, he turned around and left, making me breathe a sigh of relief. I never thought I would be able to make it out alive here.

“We would have gotten the Alpha's attention if not because of that bitch!”

“Alpha Silas, not even his beta looks in my direction..I had intentionally put on this dress!”

“How dare she show her face? People from Midnight pack are courting death.”

They all murmur among themselves while throwing daggers at me the moment Alpha Silas left with Michelle running to catch up with the man. I could only stay silent without bothering to spare them a glance or anything.

“Everyone should return to their rooms and wait for the Alpha's announcement.” The guards declared, and everyone began leaving the hall, but not without giving me a disgusting stare as they walked past me.

“The audacity of her pack to send her here? I heard she's the bastard daughter of Alpha Jayden.”

“I'm sure she must have pleaded to be sent here.” Another one said, giggling as she walked past me.

I clenched my fist tightly while watching each and every one of them. I felt like ripping that fucking smile off her face.

Minutes later, everyone was gone and I was left alone in the hall. I was about to leave when I heard a sorrowful cry of something that didn't sound like a human.

“What could it be?” I pondered as I began to trace the sound, but all my efforts were in vain because I wasn't able to figure out where exactly the sound was coming from.

“Kree-aa,” I turned to leave when I heard a sharp, piercing yet sorrowful pain behind me, and bent down a little bit and stumbled over a majestic creature, a phoenix lying on the ground.

Its vibrant feathers are matted with blood and its wings are stretched out limply. The phoenix's eyes were so dull and weak that I couldn't help but feel bad about its messy state. The wound on its body was so obvious that it was bleeding excessively.

“Oh, poor thing,” I whispered, my voice soft and soothing. “What happened to you?”

I tore a piece of clothes from the one I had on my body without thinking twice and used it to tend to the phoenix's excess bleeding. After tending to the phoenix and making sure it wasn't bleeding excessively like before, I tried to leave, but it made another sound, stopping me from going further.

“Huh, don't worry your wound will heal soon. You should try to return to your owner, okay.” I said rubbing the phoenix feathers tenderly.

“Do you want to follow me back to my room, what if your master is worried about you?” I asked, and the phoenix's eyes lit up instantly. I don't know if it was because of the excess blood the phoenix had lost that made it unable to speak. But for an

unknown reason, the phoenix wasn't speaking.

“I'll take you and tend to you till you're healed up.”

Chapter 28Nanny Janet Everyone among the female guests has returned except my Miss. I have stood guard at the entrance of the door just to make sure I would see her faster to ease my worrisome look. The more I stand guard at the door, the darker it gets. I could only pace to and fro not knowing what to do. It got to a stage where I couldn't endure it anymore, and I could only think of what to do, and decided on the other guest. I figured out that they would be in the dining room meant for the guests. There has always been a dining room for all the female guests who came for the bride selection, but my lady has chosen to eat inside her room instead. Maybe that was the reason she never made a single friend. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me, and I found myself standing a few inches away from the dining room. I could hear them giggling among themselves with some of their maids standing guard outside. I mustered up courage and made my way towards the entrance but I was instant

For a second, I thought if I was making the right decision, but thinking about it once again, I believed in it as much as I wouldn't end up with Ethan. Then any choice made is the best. The man in front of me looked aloof and cold. He looks as if he does at me like some strange crazy woman. It was as if he never believed he would ever encounter a shameless person like her.And that's a little bit understandable because who on earth goes around asking if he or she needs a bride or groom? Only me! Since the man wasn't making any attempt to speak, instead of making another fool of myself, I turned around and made to leave. “Let's get it done!” His cold voice echoed right into my ears, making me stunned as I turned back to look at the man with an unbelievable expression. “Do you mean it, Mister?” I asked, my eyes beaming with happiness. It was as if
