SERAPHIM
Chris's lips brushed against mine. He was about to deepen the kiss when he murmured my stepsister's name.
“Chloe….” he whispered with his eyes closed. As if he were reminiscing about her.
The name only made my anger boil to the fullest, and I instantly pushed him away without caring about anything else at that moment.
“How could you, Chris? You just whispered Chloe's name!” I lamented, each word pierced through my heart.
His eyes widened unbelievably; it was at that moment he realized he'd uttered another lady's name rather than the woman he was kissing.
“Fuck!” He cursed, wiping off his lips which had a little bit of lipstick stain.
“Listen, Sera. I can explain okay! It's never what you think, huh?” he said, but he couldn't bring himself to say any word. It was as if he ran out of words.
Though I have always had a little bit of doubt but without reasonable evidence, I wasn't able to prove whether my doubt was true or not. But luckily today, everything came into light. He never for once had me in his mind. It has always been her, Chloe.
I clenched my fist in anger and picked up my bag, which had been mercilessly thrown to the floor earlier by him while he was kissing me. And then walked towards the door but stopped in my tracks and looked at him, “We're done, Chris.”
“Happy birthday to me,” I muttered trying so hard to hold the tears gathering up in my eyes.
Today was meant to be a happy day for me but here I am with a shattered heart. Chris and I had planned to celebrate my birthday together, but guess what we did, and it's the worst birthday of my life.
I should have known better that no one would love me genuinely but I was a bit ahead of myself. I was sure Chris had used me to get close to the person he wanted. Well, I wouldn't blame him much though.
Who would want a bastard - a mistake child whose father has never acknowledged her as his daughter, not even once? And a legitimate daughter who has a title, who wouldn't go for her?
Though my father is the Alpha of the Midnight pack, he's just my father in name. I can count how many times I have seen my father throughout my growing up. I can remember how lonely I was during my childhood.
Growing up, I realized my father hates me to the core to the extent that he doesn't like seeing my presence at all. Until I learned that my mother was banished from the pack after a guard was caught in her chamber. I was just a few years old then.
Distracted by my thoughts as I made my way to my room, my shoulder brushed off someone while I was lost in thought. I staggered backwards but luckily I was able to keep myself from falling.
“Look who we have here? Isn't that my stepsister, Sera?”Chloe asked the two maids behind her as if she were nearsighted and couldn't see the person in front of her.
“She's the one, Miss. Do you want us to punish her?” One of the maids asked while the other one gently wiped the sweat off her forehead.
She removes her sunglasses and chuckles,” Oops, seems like she's the one. She looks dressed up.” Chloe said with a short smile
“My bastard sister is dressed up, huh?” She said in a mocking tone as she stared at me from head to toe.
The word ‘bastard’ rang in my ear, as I felt my mate, may, stir up within me. I was angry as well, but I tried to calm myself down a little bit.
“Where are you shamelessly coming from Sera, huh?” Chloe's eyes looked at me strangely; it was as if she was trying to read the look on my face.
“Don't tell me you were shamelessly coming from Chris? You look pathetic when you're in love, Sera.”
“Don't tell me you weren't aware Chris has been sending different kinds of gifts to me and even had a truck deliver lilies flowers for me today asking me to be his girlfriend. Do you think I should consider his proposal?” She muttered, biting her lips, she seemed to be enjoying messing with me, and was also enjoying my pathetic expression, I guess.
I clenched my fist tightly, the fact that I had witnessed the big truck deliver the flower to her, and ‘ Will you be my woman ‘ written boldly on it made it hurt like hell. And countless times, I always heard the maid from her quarters giggling about the gift Chloe had been receiving.
“Who could have thought all that was done by Chris?”
“Are you done? Can I leave now, Chloe?” I ask calmly, trying to leave as soon as possible because I do not have time to mess around with her.
“You can't leave unless I say so!”
“And who made the fucking rule, Chloe?” I thundered back murderously, and within a spark of a second, the gentle-looking expression changed.
“I heard you think Chris is your fated mate? When are you gonna stop being dumb?”
My body tensed up instantly, and almost immediately, I took a bold step closer to her. By now we were just an inch away from each other. “Even though he's not my fated mate, he'll never genuinely love you. Don't worry, you want my garbage right? You want him, you can have him - my garbage!” I said, emphasizing the word garbage.
She asked for it and I didn't hesitate to give her a dose of her medicine. She should have known better before coming for me.
Chloe was about to say something but paused for a moment, her head tilted to the side, it was as if she was getting a mind link message. I tried using that opportunity to leave but her words made me stop abruptly on my track.
“Father, want to see you.” She said
I felt tense. “What do you mean?”
She rolled her eyes. “Are you that stupid and dumb? I said, “The Alpha, my father summoned you.” She said breaking down every single word. “Pretty sure this is a dream come true for you,” she said with a grin plastered on her face before walking away with her lackeys.
I felt tense, I couldn't bring myself to walk. Alpha Jayden has never once summoned me, and neither have I seen him for the past few years. As far as I'm concerned, he doesn't care about my existence and hates my gut, and likewise, I hate him because I don't want to spend a second with a person like him, but now he just summoned me?
No matter how hard I tried to figure out why he summoned me, I wasn't able to think of any.
I closed my eyes for a second before making my way towards the Alpha - my father's office. Even though I do bear his name as my surname, he has never once introduced me to the public as his daughter; he has always introduced Chloe.
I don't know why, but the hallway leading to his office felt longer than usual, or maybe I was the one dragging my feet while walking. And finally, I stood in front of his office, my heartbeat accelerating faster than usual.
I don't know how long I stood in front of the entrance but I know I was covered up with sweat streaming down my forehead.
After taking a deep breath, I knocked.
“Enter,” I heard the deep, cold voice of Alpha Jayden which sent shivers down my throat.
I pushed the door open. The office was dimly lit, and everything screamed Luxury compared to my room. For the first time in many years, I could see my father seated right in front of me instead of peeking just to catch a glimpse of him during those years.
He sat down at a desk in front of him and a sack of books was lying on the desk. My father, the man who had given me nothing but endless pain. I don't know how I was feeling just by standing in front of him, the feeling was something I couldn't describe.
As I stood in front of him, I tried to force myself to smile because I didn't even know what to say or what to call him.
“Alpha, you called for my attention,” I said as I stood in front of him.
“How dare you?!” Beta Ace, my father's most trusted man, said, but the Alpha waved his hand in the air making him halt.
“Doesn't it sound stupid to call someone who doesn't acknowledge me as his daughter my father, huh?” I thought briefly.
“Sit.”
But I remained standing, I was going to look weak or pathetic to him even though he was my father. “Why do you call for me, Alpha?”
Alpha Jayden's expression darkened as he wasn't expecting me to reject his little favor. But little does he know back those days I was eagerly hoping to earn his favor.
He must have thought I had rushed to sit just like he said. I felt a little bit relieved that I could stand in front of him feeling much more confident than I could ever have imagined.
“You are to attend Alpha Sila's selection ceremony for the bride.” He said coldly without sparing me a second glance.
Startled, Olivia turned around and sighed in relief upon seeing the person, it was no other person than her best friend, Annie.“Annie, you scared the hell out of me.” She muttered, reliving a sigh of relief in the air. “What are you thinking about? Besides, Olivia, I thought we agreed to wait for me at the entrance. I can't believe you left before my arrival.” Annie pouted sadly as she looked at the empty seat beside her best friend. “I know it might sound like a lie. But I tried to wait for you but I wasn't expecting to see our classmates at the entrance. She directed me here,” Olivia said calmly with her puppy look.Even though Annie was a bit angry, upon seeing the puppy look at Olivia, her anger melted and instantly changed to a giggle from both ends. By the time you'll be reading this message, I'll be at the airport then.” I clenched my fist as I read the message Audrey had sent to me. I couldn't believe my eyes as I read the message while trying my best to stay composed as I could. “Master, what's your next plan?”“Madam is still waiting for your wife on the hospital bed, master,” Tony said to me but I couldn't bring myself to say anything, I was still trying to recover from the shock. Chapter 28Nanny Janet Everyone among the female guests has returned except my Miss. I have stood guard at the entrance of the door just to make sure I would see her faster to ease my worrisome look. The more I stand guard at the door, the darker it gets. I could only pace to and fro not knowing what to do. It got to a stage where I couldn't endure it anymore, and I could only think of what to do, and decided on the other guest. I figured out that they would be in the dining room meant for the guests. There has always been a dining room for all the female guests who came for the bride selection, but my lady has chosen to eat inside her room instead. Maybe that was the reason she never made a single friend. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me, and I found myself standing a few inches away from the dining room. I could hear them giggling among themselves with some of their maids standing guard outside. I mustered up courage and made my way towards the entrance but I was instant
Julianne “Mister, I don't know if you need a bride?” I mustered to say but the man only looked cold without any expression on his face. For a second, I thought if I was making the right decision, but thinking about it once again, I believed in it as much as I wouldn't end up with Ethan. Then any choice made is the best. The man in front of me looked aloof and cold. He looks as if he does at me like some strange crazy woman. It was as if he never believed he would ever encounter a shameless person like her.And that's a little bit understandable because who on earth goes around asking if he or she needs a bride or groom? Only me! Since the man wasn't making any attempt to speak, instead of making another fool of myself, I turned around and made to leave. “Let's get it done!” His cold voice echoed right into my ears, making me stunned as I turned back to look at the man with an unbelievable expression. “Do you mean it, Mister?” I asked, my eyes beaming with happiness. It was as if
