MasukChapter 6
Jacob's pov
Dammit, my brothers are going to kill me.
That is…if I don't die right now perhaps.
I pushed my bodyweight against the rickety door, buying time. For what? I'm not quite sure.
"Just let me help you," the viper said, her voice a desperate whisper shout, I laid my eyes on her then raked them through.
She was taller than most she wolves, with distracting curves and her midnight black hair was a tight, heavy looking bun on her head…for a stupid second I wanted to loosen her hair and-
"Lady Vivian!" The banging from the other side intensified and I almost whispered a thank you to the enemies behind the door frame reminding me that there was another enemy in here with me even when her blue eyes sparkled like stars.
"Didn't you hear me before? Why would I trust you?" I said making such spite dripped from every word.
Those doe eyes widened and a flicker of hurt past them.
A stupid impulse in me told me to console her and I smothered immediately.
Console her, why?!
She was the viper.
A venomous fiend that ended my brothers life and mine as well, save from the distrastion outside I should be snapping her neck.
"I know you don't trust me, you'd be dumb to anyways but-" she was closer again and my wolf was yearning to sniff her but my scent cloaker I had on was also making difficult for me to catch other's scent."...Voss warrior wolves are never far apart, you could tear through those outside with brute force but once reinforcements can't reach them they'll be on your tail. Now tell me…can you handle an army?"
My skin bristled with anger, I hated that she was right, hated the confidence in her voice that I would give in.
"Try anything funny and you'll regret it," I said through clenched teeth.
"Wouldn't dream of it," she said her lips falling into an almost smile.
In a few smooth motions she maneuvered me away from the door to the wall next to it that it covered when she opened it and her expression changed in a second flat, her lips were in a stern sharp line that could cut through glass and even her innocent looking eyes looked like pits of fury, the transformation was a whiplash but my surprise wasn't long lived.
Such two faced cunningness is exactly what I'd expect from the viper.
"Why are all of you here?! Trying to bring this door down?"her voice bloomed with natural authority, like she was used to shooting orders and having them followed.
They calmed instantly, a man with a gruff voice spoke up.
"We just happened to be here and decided that we should check up on you,"
She was quiet for a while, but even I could tell from where I stood against the world that it was for dramatic purposes to slice open their conscience even before her words could.
"In case all of you have not gotten the memo yet I am no longer a part of Voss pack, your concern is unneeded,"
Confusion was beginning to swirl in me, either she was one of the best actress known to man or she had actually cut ties with her pack.
My fingers were trembling so much I brought them to my side.
Impossible I couldn't allow myself to be swayed.
This was the viper we were talking about.
Her loyalty to the Voss pack had been a deadly venom to mine in my second life. Her name rolled across our warriors lips with bitter reverence. She was a force to be reckoned with, a…
"Wherever I'm going to now has nothing to do with any of you, my safety is none of your concern I'll take care of myself this should be the last time I will have to face any of you," her words penetrated my thoughts and the next thing in he was the door slamming shot with a force that the vibrated through the entire room.
I waited until I heard footsteps outside until they faded away then my eyes were back on her, she looked exhausted, drained.... Not that I cared but it was hard to miss her dark circles or the way her face looked so pale.
She trained her eyes back on me as if they never left.
"You are Jacob right?"
"Prince Jacob," I corrected.
"All right then prince Jacob-"
"I'm undercover right now, just call me Jac,"
She looks like she was about to pop again in her forehead and it might have been a little immature of me but I liked that I could get under her skin like that and annoy her.
"Do you think you can trust me a bit now?" She said and I weighed the question back still against the wall hands crossed in front of my chest, from the way she was acted it didn't seem like she remembered what happened in our previous lives, and in a way it's grated at my nerves that she had forgotten all she did to my pack.
But if I brought her back home with me she would be a vital source of information that could turn the tables in our favor.
"I still don't trust you," I see frankly straighten up, "but it looks like I could use you, "
I clipped the distance between us keeping eye contact with her all through she didn't break any lesser wolf would have immediately curled into themselves and molded into the fetal position but she stood friendly and met my eyes which made me remember why she was such a formidable enemy in my past life.
"... But understand this the moment I have even so much as an inkling that you are trying to betray me I will not hesitate to end your life,"
I thought that would strike a little bit of fear into her and for a second her face got paler and then it warmed up just a bit.
"That's fair," she said as if we were going over a simple business deal.
"Then there's just one more thing we need to settle,"
I cocked up an eyebrow; "What?"
She looked at me as if it was obvious.
"Which one of us is taking the bed?”
Chapter 13Vivian's POVBoth Lucien and Jacob had been angry when they saw me, but none of it could compare to the look that their brother was giving to me right now. It was something that was so saturated in pure hatred that logic had no place within it. There was no way I could reason with him. I had been in the battlefield long enough through the bloodshed that I could recognize it from a mile away, and it was painted across his eyes so familiarly. I would have to be a fool to miss it or be completely blind."Didn't you hear me?" he roared at the guard behind him, who had begun to tremble with his fingers nervously."Prince Gabriel, I can't give you the keys."I could see all of the veins popping from the side of his head as he turned. "What do you mean you can't give me the keys? That is an order!""But Prince Lucien said that…"He marched over to the guard. "You know I don't like to repeat myself, so it's either you find the keys for me or face the consequences when I'll have to
Chapter 12Gabriel's POV"When Jacob finally survives this, I'm going to kill him," I said with a bitter growl. Staring at his unconscious form dripping with sweat and pain, the last healer had stepped out of the room, stating that they had done all they could and his body's natural healing system was supposed to kick in. If only they knew that we had taken instructions from a werewolf and that of what we were banking to truly heal our brother, the Royal bloodline would never recover from the humiliation."Go easy on him," Lucien said, sitting cross-legged facing the youngest of us three. "He’s still growing, still learning. We can't expect him to make the best decisions all the time, can we?""We're barely that far apart in age," I reminded him. "...And both of us were at his age once. Neither of us were so irresponsible and dumb.""That's because we didn't have anyone to support us if we were either of those things, but Jacob has it. Shouldn't we take that as a golden lining?"I s
Chapter 11Vivian’s POV"What do you mean by antidote? Do you mean he has been poisoned? How? When?"I held up my hand, making sure that I didn’t touch the silver bars in order not to burn my flesh. All of that doesn’t matter right now, the most important thing is saving his life. What is going through his system is actually a newly concocted poison that is supposed to be strong enough to take down an elephant or, in this case, a Lycan Alpha. He looked at me, his eyes laced deep with suspicion, then he backed away, shaking his head. "I can’t believe I almost let you deceive me. Did you think that you would be able to sneak out of here if I allowed you to make the antidote?""You won’t need me to come out of here," I responded to him. "I can give the instructions from inside here, if that’s what you’re worried about."He raised an eyebrow. "The instructions? You intend to command me and my people? A forsaken werewolf Luna? Do you even hear yourself right now? Perhaps you have really lo
Chapter 10Lucien’s POVThree days, that’s how long our youngest has been gone. I had told him repeatedly to abort the solo mission that he wanted to embark on. Yes, the info he had gotten us the first two times was valuable, but not enough to trade into werewolf territory the third time, especially since the world was curling itself around our necks like an invisible rope and choking us all. No matter what, we had to maintain morale, and one of us getting captured was not going to be an amazing morale boost for our warriors. But Jacob wasn’t going to be Jacob if he wasn’t the stubborn hothead he was. He had managed to snitch his way past the guards I set to watch him, and along with him, our reserve of scent cloakers.Gabriel was still on the battlefield, trying to maintain one of our borders. When he returned back to hear Jacob was gone, in seconds there was a hole the shape of his fist on the wall. He wanted to hold an all-out search, but that would be the same thing as us holding
Chapter 9Vivian's POV"Lady Vivian!" My name, attached to a title I could no longer claim anymore, rang out again in the darkness. I looked up to the person that said it.She was an orphan that I personally picked myself and chose her for this important mission that changed her life forever, putting her in great favor with the Voss alpha family. And in those days when I rotted away in that cell, she had not come to see me, not even once. She abandoned me just like everyone else. And for that, I had no regret for what I was about to do. Or, more precisely, what I had already done. There were three of them, and I had put a dagger through the neck of one of the men that was holding Jacob. He choked and instinctively let go, his hands scrambling to pull out the dagger. The other warrior looked at me with alarm, he was also personally chosen. Also another betrayer to be rid of.The woman, Stacy, I think was her name, looked genuinely hurt. If only she knew what she did, or rather didn't d
Chapter 8Jacob's POV"Stay put, Jacob. I smell trouble with this plan of yours. The tides of war might be against us right now, but that doesn't mean we should be taking foolish risks," the voice of my oldest brother, Lucien, rings through my mind as I run through the night in my wolf form, moving half a mile away from the motel to the abandoned gas station. All within werewolf territory.I could feel my scent and aura leaking lightly through the cracks of the scent cloaker, those stuff were hard to get your hands on, even as a royal. But I got them, and I came here. Why? Because I had to prove myself.Lucien was the great strategist and Gabriel the tank that scorched earth when he needed to. And me? Well, I was the mess, the one they were always covering for. Lately, all I've been able to do is stand by the sidelines as everything was crumbling, all as my brothers and I were being pushed further into the corner. The Viper's face crosses my mind.Seeing her face-to-face like that fil
Chapter 7 Vivian's POV I had said it as a mild joke to cut through the butter thick tension in the air but he looked at me as if I suggested harvesting each of his organs, discussing lining up his pictures, scrunching them but not stealing any of the rugged handsomeness that edged them. "Clearl
Chapter 5 Vivian's POVAll it took was a 5-minute conversation for them to decide they didn't want me anymore. I was disgusted but not surprised. 5 minutes against all the years I had given them, all the care, love and devotion. I pitifully remembered myself in my previous life, fighting tooth a
Chapter 4Draven's pov This can't be real. Is she messing with us? Her lips rolled into a smile yet it was disconnected from her eyes that were icy enough to send chills down my spine.I released her, but didn't back away."Is this because of your room? Are you throwing a tantrum just for that?"
Chapter 3Vivian's POV "Augh!" I gasped sitting up in a bolt causing a wave of water to splash around. My head throbbed like it was about to split into two, with a quick spin of my eyes I looked around and saw my personal bathroom and my jaw dropped. Just a few moments ago, I had been in the 'ho
