Chapter 5

YARA'S POV

I walked into the room, my knees buckling as I saw the man sitting on the bed. His eyes burned into me with a sensual energy that could set me on fire. Alpha Kyle, the one Oma had told me about. His red hair and handsome face were a lethal combination. I stopped at the doorway, where I knew it was safe.

The first guy fascinated me in ways I couldn't explain, but this one made me feel like a cornered prey. My whole body shook, despite my best efforts to stay calm.

He got up from the bed and approached me, his eyes locking onto mine. I felt paralyzed by his gaze.

"Relax, mon amour," his voice was gentle as he cupped my face, but his eyes were dangerous.

Suddenly, his expression changed, his eyes turning vicious. My heart sank as I went pale instantly.

"Who kissed you?" he demanded in an angry tone, like hot steel.

I jumped visibly, feeling his fury as he struggled to contain it. I knew lying to him wasn't an option.

He pulled me closer and gasped in shock. "Marius?!"

I didn't know who Marius was, but judging by the look on his face, he had to be the same guy from earlier. I tried to explain, but I was just as confused as he was. What could I say to him?

He took a deep breath and released me, walking to the bed. He was no longer angry. He was hurt.

"Do you know who you are?" he asked, his focus on the far wall.

I told him the truth. I was a nobody, just an orphaned kid who had been unlucky enough to fall into the hands of slavers.

Alpha Kyle shook his head, a somber expression etched on his face, as I finished recounting my story. It was as if he had been expecting it. His words sent a shiver down my spine, and my legs threatened to buckle beneath me. I stumbled to the bed and sat down for support.

"The pendant you wear is a symbol of your royal heritage, passed down to the heir of your family," he said, his voice filled with conviction.

As I reached for the pendant around my neck, his words began to make sense. It was strange, but I knew he wasn't joking.

Then came the bombshell. "You're meant to be my mate," he declared, causing me to stiffen involuntarily. "We are destined to be together. Once I mark you, I can take back my throne with you as my Luna."

Despite the gravity of his words, a nagging feeling of doubt persisted within me, the same feeling I had when I encountered Marius. I kept silent, trying to make sense of it all.

The look of hurt in Alpha Kyle's eyes vanished, replaced with a glimmer of inspiration. I wondered what he had up his sleeve as he got up and approached me with a sly grin. My heart raced, and I could feel beads of sweat forming on my forehead.
