Lloyd’s POV

We had just returned from the tunnel and the kidnap.

By my authority, I had restored all of Elora's privilege, including scaling her up the ranks so she can stay close and be under the radar of my protection detail.

That seemed like the way to keep her safe and free from the ploys of Darius and the others.

It doesn't stop me though from looking for a way to find out what it is that that they are really going on about.

But pending that, Elora can be safe, and her father's actions cannot be used against her.

That afternoon, I was outside, watching the others train when she showed up.

“Alpha,” she breathed as she got close.

I turned to her. “Elora Stark. How are you feeling now?”

Her colour had returned, and she was looking ready in her new, black uniform.

Her hair was parked together behind and braided into a single ponytail, lying on her right shoulder.

“I'm great,” she drew in the afternoon air. It was sunny, but it was a little airy too.

I nodded at her. “You should tak

Lloyd’s POV“In this case, Elora,” I started. “To cover more grounds, we’ll have to interview these people separately. We were standing in the council building now, scarce of people. Only a few guards paced around, and a few betas that had come around to join us the moment they noticed we didn’t return.Elora looked around the council building for a moment before meeting my gaze. “I was thinking you’d organize a hearing for every guard present at the time of the incident.”I blinked. “A hearing?” “Yes, a hearing,” I repeated. “Perhaps, the men will be more susceptible to speaking the truth when they are aware that it’s a hearing and not just an interview.”“That is going to kill time,” I said. “We need a quick method that will enable us find the killer before they clean up their mess. Are you up for the task?”I asked her that last question for a reason. As alpha, I’ll have no problem demanding answers from people I question, but I doubt that would be the same for her.She began a a

Elora’s POV“That’s impossible,” I cried. “How would he be dead? Who would kill him in imprison?”“Do not speak like a dunce,” Xavier said. “You know how badly people don’t want the truth out. You know how they’ll fight to keep their secrets. This just confirms our suspicions of someone in the council being involved.”“What do we—” I didn’t finish that statement.Lloyd dashed outside, walking briskly. At first, Xavier and I were stunned at the sudden action before we scrambled to follow.“Where are you even going to?” I asked when Xavier and I managed to catch up to him.“To find out the cause of this mess,” he replied, not sparing me a glance.“You don’t actually believe they’ll be moved to speak to you about Leone’s death, do you?” I asked. He didn’t answer.“And you don’t actually imagine them letting you through into the cells?” I asked again. He hesitated, but answered. “I’m the Alpha. I can enter anywhere I want.”“I know that,” I said. “And I’m sure the rest of the people know

Lloyd’s POV “What did you just say?” I breathed, rooted where I stood. Slowly, she walked back to me. “I said I continued with the investigation lightly. I thought—”“You were not supposed to continue with anything lightly,” he said in a low growl. She shot me wide eyes. “I don’t understand. I noticed something wasn’t right, and I decided to look into it.” “You were not supposed to look into that,” I growled again. “You don’t know the pact I was made to swear to take you under my wing. The things we are dealing with are dangerous.”She blinked at me. “So, you think I cannot handle myself?”“I think you should know things to dabble into alone and the things you should inform me about before dabble into it.” I said. While she was still in her baffled state, I grabbed her wrist, making sure it wasn’t too tight. In a blur, we dashed into a corner.“You shouldn’t have done that,” I warned. “You should have informed me before leaving.”“Like I said, it was a light investigation,” she pr

Elora’s POV“Release our Alpha!” The people kept chanting to the surprise of Darius, other members of the council, and even a part of the elders.I didn't even know that the stunt I pulled will work.I was particularly surprised myself. Xavier's lips tugged with a smile despite his bafflement, but he struggled to hide it.My eyes met Lloyd in the defense box, and he reacted through the mind link.“You aren't supposed to be here,” he stated. “Everything I did was to get you out of this.”“At your expense?” I responded without moving my lips. “I'm not going to sit back and watch you burn, Alpha.”He forced himself to hide a smile, looking away. “I don't know whether I should be thanking you for what you did for me or kicking your ass for leaving where I left you.”“You should be more focused on getting your ass out of there,” I smirked at him, still communicating with the mind link.“Silence!” Darius growled on top of his voice, lifting a hand. The chaotic noise fell to a light mutter.

Lloyd’s POVThe tribunal had asked a few round of questions and they failed to find fault in me.I was peculiarly happy though. Their plan was to catch me unawares, but they failed.I saw their plan from a mile away, and I made sure it failed.“Silence,” Darius growled. “This is baseless. We will invite another councillor to ask you a few questions.”“Feel free,” I said. “However, I will not tolerate badgering, based on the authority of my office.”He looked away from me and in the direction of the councillors. “We invite councillor Gaius for his questions.”The man rose from the first row and made his way out, holding a parchment. He crossed to the stand where I stood and gave me a once-over.Then, he crossed to the front of the crowd, where Darius was situated above him.“Members of the council, it is true that this man has been an honourable luminary of our time,” he started. “But as of late, recent actions have brought questions from pack members and elders alike.”He crossed the

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   051_The Clue and the Defense

Elora’s POVI was hurrying back to the Alpha house to share my findings with Lloyd. I think I might have a clue to everything going on right now.The people in charge of moving all these illegal magical objects have someone in the council; and this person is very influential. And they are committed to ensuring that the business continues going. They are committed to ensure that the supply chain doesn’t break. And someone in the council is benefitting greatly from that supply chain. When I arrived at the Alpha house, I was surprised to meet some of the betas, lying in different parts of the yard, knocked out.I blinked. What the hell happened here?I hurried quickly towards the main entrance and pushed the doors open. More guards lay knocked out on the floor of the foyer.Who did this? Who knocked out these men? And what were they looking for?I walked further inside the foyer, before taking the stairs.“Lloyd?” I called, tentatively. There was no answer.“Lloyd?” I called again. My v
