ログインALPHA COLE'S P.O.V
I watched the omega in front of me. The sun had set into the evening, and the palace was quiet. The room was dimly lit with only the bedside lamps. The omega was on the floor, his eyes half closed, his lips parted. He was fully aroused and completely unable to speak for himself. The half empty cup of tea that had been meant for me sat on the floor next to him. The door opened slowly, tentatively. I waited as it opened and gently closed before I turned on the lights fully. Sylvia froze close to the door, her lips parting. She looked down at the servant, then at me, and disappointment immediately flashed through her eyes. I looked down at her. She was wearing next to nothing, and the tiny robe she had on left nothing to the imagination. "Why? You look disappointed, my lady. Did the tea go to the wrong person?" She swallowed hard. "Alpha, I..." "How fucking dare you, Sylvia?" My voice was low. It never went high anymore. Not after Selena. "What? You think I will end up like him? Waiting for your hands to rid me of the aphrodisiac you slipped in my blood? You think even if I was unconscious, I would want to fuck you?" "You married me!" She yelled, her body shaking, her eyes meeting mine. "Five years. The pack is making a mockery of me. I haven't given birth. I haven't even been touched by the man who openly claimed me." "Claimed you?" I asked, covering the distance, till she had to look up to meet her eyes. Good. It was the dynamic that her father had imposed on me five years ago. "The man who claimed you was your father. I never even married you. I announced you as my mate's cheap replacement and you took that and you ran with it. Maybe go run to daddy once more. Go tell him to use his power to get me hard and ready for you." She raised her hand and slapped me hard, her chest heaving. "I am beautiful! I have a nice body. I am every man's dream! I gave you the security this pack now has. How dare you?" I stepped closer. "Tell that to yourself till someone believes it. You will be banned from anything that comes to me from now on. This is your fifth attempt at drugging me, and if it happens a sixth, Sylvia, I will ruin you. I ruined the woman I loved. You are next to nothing." I grabbed my shirt and walked away, abandoning my room for the study once more. The study was dim, and I leaned on the door for a moment to catch my breath. I turned, towards the smaller door. Before I could stop myself, I pushed myself away from the door and locked it, then walked slowly towards the door. The knob gave way under my hand, and the lights automatically came on. Those pictures still hung on the walls. Still stared back at me and demanded my heart like the woman in them had not so brutally killed my beta and betrayed me. I looked down at the rose sitting on the table. It was the last rose from Beta Ian's burial, still alive, kept entirely so because I fed it my blood and my hatred. My fists clenched tight, my eyes closing. Selena. Damn you. I walked out of the room and locked it, not because anyone ever went there, but because I needed to see the lock to stop myself from reaching in there again. She was a drug. A drug I hated with everything in me. A knock came on the door. "Alpha. It is Beta Sean. I have some urgent news." I rolled my eyes and slipped on the shirt I had grabbed, before opening the door. Beta Sean walked in, and I went back to the chair, my hands resting on the desk. "I hope you aren't reporting to me this late because of the full moon ball?" "No, Alpha," he said. Even the high pitch of his voice annoyed me. Beta Ian's voice had been deeper. "Something had happened at the pack borders. A group of unidentified rogues attacked the soldiers guarding the east border. Two are fatally injured, and one ended up dead." I raised a brow. Another death that I couldn't feel. "When did this happen?" "Around thirty minutes ago. According to reports from the others, the group came too close and the three casualties had told them to back off without escalating. They became aggressive and started to fight. I have sent a few to crack down on the location of the rogues, as they ran off the minute the soldier dropped dead." "Fucking rogues," I said, my chest heaving. "Locate them tonight itself, or none of you are allowed to come back. Once you have their locations..." I closed my eyes. "Wait till the full moon. There is little to no chance that there will be any sort of disturbance then. Wipe them out before they become an actual threat." He nodded. "Yes, Alpha. Do we arrest them or..." "Do you fucking have to ask me that too? How do you treat someone who attacked your pack? Did you even go through any sort of training before you were appointed beta?" He took a step back and gave a small bow. "I apologize. We will cripple their army and arrest the rest. I am sorry." "Leave." He turned away and all but ran out of the study, the door closing behind him again. I hated being this man. This angry, tired man who wished for Selena in his bed as much as he wished for her in a grave. The man who saw that young beta, and only saw a sad excuse for beta Ian. I leaned back on my seat, my chest heaving hard. I hated it. But I couldn't stop. My eyes fell back on the door again, and despite not going in there, I could see everything. Her smile. Her tiny tattoo. The scar. I closed my eyes. Damn you. Damn you. Let me fucking go. But I might be the one still holding on.SELENA'S P.O.V The doors closed behind us as Alpha Cole walked into the large room, a small breath escaping him."You must be tired," I said, watching as he took off his shirt. "I am. Sleep here, will you?""There was no other option for me."He gave a small smile, then pushed the covers of the bed. "Do you want to change?""Have a shirt for me?""A lot for you."I broke into a laugh, then walked towards his massive closet. I got out of the summer dress and grabbed a large button-down shirt. I put it on, my hair still down, then walked back out.To my surprise, Alpha Cole was already in bed, facing the empty side that I would eventually occupy.I slipped into bed beside him, feeling the shirt ride up my thigh. Alpha Cole's eyes opened, and he smiled as he held the covers open, then covered me up once I was settled in."You smell like me," he said, laughing. He looked light. A little free. I almost pulled him into my chest. "I smell nice."He laughed a little more, then pulled me cl
ALPHA COLE'S P.O.V Hours passed. The sun was fully setting by the time everything was ready. I looked up from the last plate I was arranging, then turned to Evan.He had done all of the cutting, like he somehow knew how bad I was with knives in the kitchen."Thank you for all your help," I said, waving the omega with the last dish.He nodded, a small smile lifting the edge of his lips. "You are always welcome.""I will freshen up. Wait for me at the table."He simply nodded at that, too, and I walked away towards my room. I peeled off the shirt I was wearing and stepped into the shower. My eyes closed as the water pelted down on me fast, my fingers pushing into my hair. It felt like a weight had been lifted off me, but I knew I still wasn't completely free. Something felt a little missing still, and it would take time. Maybe longer than I think. But the best part is that I know it, and we at least wouldn't be stuck at an impasse.I sighed, the scent of the body wash Selena had used
EVAN'S P.O.V.His scent still lingered in the air and in the place where he had been standing, crying for me. The moisture of his tears lingered on my thumb, and I ached for more. Yet, I stood here and told him I was honoured to be his friend. I stood here and accepted the last thing I wanted because I was scared and stupid, and because I knew that it was the only way.I turned. Alpha Cole was bringing out ingredients, gently arranging them in that meticulous way he always did. I would never tell him that I knew he used those little bowls since back then when he still used to cook, or that I knew how much he hated to cut and that was why I was here in the first place."Let me help," I said, grabbing the knife before he could. Because he always got injured using knives, and I couldn't risk it. His fingers were far too pretty. His blood far too valuable."Do you have anything you want to eat?" Alpha Cole asked, his voice still low and carrying the tinge of the tears he had just let out
ALPHA COLE'S P.O.V I leaned on the nearest wall once the door behind me closed, my heart ramming into my chest. I thought I was ready. I thought I could hear it.But I stood there, and I looked at those eyes and those hands, and the memories of Beta Ian's body being lowered filled my mind, and I couldn't do it.I almost asked, hell I wanted to. I wanted to ask why she did it. Why she did it. If there was, perhaps something I could hold on to in justifying the fact that I am still so madly, so helplessly, desperately in love with her. Despite knowing that Beta Ian died by her hands. Despite knowing that Evan looks at me through the lens of a liar.I took in a deep breath, my eyes slowly opening. I didn't have much longer before dinner, and once again, like the coward, I realized I was, I filed it away again. I probably should have gone back in there. I should have asked her anything, even if her redemption was that she may have possibly felt a bit of remorse for doing it. Between I a
SELENA'S P.O.V I walked back into the quarters, my eyes skimming the place. It was clean, evidence that someone had been there to clean it out after we left for Waning Moon. I closed the door behind me and walked in further, my hands gently touching the surfaces of everything. If there was a chance that Sylvia could have planted something in there, the best thing that could happen was for it to be discovered by my hand first.I finished my inspection. There was nothing off. Maybe it was one of those omegas. I got out of the robe I was wearing and stepped into the shower, my eyes closing as the water hit my skin. My mind immediately drifted to Amanda. Maybe I could sneak out and see her for a bit?Alpha Cole's trust in me has definitely heightened since Waning Moon, and maybe I can come up with a lie more believable this time. But with Alan's presence in the palace so new, it would feel too fishy if I started running around.I let out a small breath. I missed my daughter so fucking
ALPHA COLE'S P.O.V The drive back was almost stiffling. Evan was driving now, instead of the whoever the driver had been before, and we were both excruciatingly silent. Like he hadn't held me in times when I was falling to pieces."How about..." I started, my voice a little rough. "Let's stop by for groceries."He didn't look back. "The palace pantry is stocked, Alpha."I bit down on my lower lip. "Are you still angry with me?"He slowed down the car a bit but made no move to look at me. "It was partly my fault. But I am more disappointed that you thought I would want her to disappear when I know just how much she makes you happy."I watched his back, and my chest tightened with emotions that I don't think I have truly felt ever since he stepped into Ian's role.I leaned back, sucking in a sharp breath."You... you are just as noble as Ian. I did not doubt that you would keep her safe and...""You are still comparing me to him," he said, as the gates of the palace opened, and he drov
SELENA'S P.O.V"Something is definitely happening in the meeting," an omega whispered furiously as she passed the dignitary quarters.I immediately sat up, my brows furrowed. I had barely been able to sleep ever since leaving Alpha Cole's room and then the discussion with that man, Evan, and the fa
ALPHA COLE'S P.O.V Selena. Selena is in my palace. My eyes thinned as I looked between the women in the dungeon and the soldier still lying unconscious outside. He had been carefully tucked away, and he had a single hit to the side of his neck. Like the edge of a dagger. That was Selena's signatur
SELENA'S P.O.V The dance troupe proceeded to the palace, and I joined, quickly learning their chants as we made the short journey to the palace.Soon enough, the palace loomed in front of us. I stopped for a second to catch my breath, my chest heaving. I still knew the palace like the back of my h
SELENA'S P.O.V I cleaned out the guns and daggers, laying them out on the floor in the room. I stepped back, my eyes taking in the weapons. Most of them were my hunting gear, as I have had no use for weapons in five years. The sun was already coming up, and tomorrow would be the full moon festival
