It had been a long night. I didn’t want anything else but to shower and crawl into my bed once the party was over. I helped Ayla move her things to the Gamma’s quarters so that she could stay with Liam easily and called my father afterwards to check how their pack run went. I was happy to hear that it went well. I was startled awake at some point during the night. I don’t know if I heard something or if I was having a dream, but I woke up with Lasaya on alert. I crawled out of my bed. I knew that if there had been an attack, that the warriors on patrol would have alerted someone and, even though I didn’t have the ability to mind link, there would have been more noise in the house by now. I moved to my door and opened it. When I looked down the hall, I noticed the door to the Luna’s chamber was slightly ajar. I quietly slipped out of my room and started making my way toward the opened door when Jackson emerged. He looked at me with a shocked expression as he stood in the doorway.
It was a little chilly when we got back to Jackson’s room. I wasted no time crawling under his thick dark blankets and cuddling up next to his warm body. I felt instantly comforted when he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me close. Jackson kissed my forehead, causing me to look up at him. He looked a little nervous, so I kissed his nose and smiled when he did. “I didn’t know I was a royal Lycan.” He said, keeping his gaze on me. He signed but I continued to listen to him. I was interested in learning anything and everything that I could about his past. “I was young, I remember my parents putting me to bed.” He started, then tried pulling me closer. I brushed his hair, gently, with my fingertips. “My mom came and woke me up. She was holding Ayla, she was just a couple weeks old.” He continued, taking a deep breath. “My mom put this backpack on me, and I remember complaining because of how heavy it was.” Jackson started trailing his finge
Waking up in Jackson’s arms was somehow different this morning than it had been the last time I slept next to him. Since I marked him, I have been able to sense his emotions better than before. He seemed to be content as he slept next to me, then a little annoyed as he started to stir, which made me laugh. “Good morning, Alpha.” I whispered as I lifted my head to kiss his cheek. He answered by pulling his arms tightly around me and burying his face in the crook of my neck. I laughed a little and swatted him away. “Get up, we have a pack to run and it’s almost ten,” I urged. He rolled over to his back and groaned with his arm over his eyes. “Don’t make me open the curtains.” I threatened as I set up and looked down at the man sleeping next to me. He groaned again. “Not the curtains.” His voice was husky and he still sounded very sleepy. I leaned over him and placed both my hands on his cheeks. This caused him to move his arm, open his eyes and look at me. “Good morning, Luna.” He gr
I followed Liam and Ayla to the pack hospital. It wasn’t very big, but since werewolves healed quickly, the hospitals didn’t get much use, except if you had a witch doctor like Lunaflare pack did.Once we were inside, Abby led us to a back room where the morgue was. There were two rows of three beds all held bodies covered with sheets. “As I said before, Luna, I’ve checked over the bodies and found no marks of nesting.” She said, Her voice was friendly and welcoming. I tilted my head to the side, then looked back over at her. “It makes no sense. Rogue vampires don’t behave in this manner. I pulled the sheet back on the first vampire and Abby handed me a small flashlight. Ayla gagged a little and stepped out of the room. Abby pulled the entire sheet off her and I started looking over the body and saw nothing. “I don’t get it, I really don’t.” I said, then looked back over at Abby, who was still standing beside me.“Nor do I, Luna, it does seem off.” She added.I turned back to the bo
A couple of weeks have passed since we discovered the nest markings and it was getting closer to Halloween. The Silver Adder pack had been getting attacked by these vampires every night. Sometimes it was just one and other nights it would be up to ten. They were testing our borders, or that's what we all assumed.Nothing got through. Jackon had tripled the night guard, which left us weak in the daylight hours. Vampires can’t be out in the sunlight, but I was still nervous. Jackson finally agreed to let me join the day patrol. He assumed, since it was vampires, that I would be safe during daylight hours. Today, however, I won’t be going out. I had to bless newborns. I was nervous. It wasn’t a real blessing, it was just the Luna accepting new wolves into the pack. I had always thought it was a bit ridiculous. If a pup was born into a pack, then of course, it would automatically be a member. But that was how the show went, and new mothers really liked the tradition. I’ve seen my mother
Jackson didn’t want me to come, but there was no way in hell that I was staying behind. If they were going to question a vampire that could walk in the sunlight, then I was going to be there. I promised to stay back and just listen, but I knew that I couldn’t do that. Liam was with me, so I would be okay.Drove into the woods until we reached a small cottage that was heavily guarded by our warriors. Once inside, there was just one big room and a small bathroom. In the back of the room there was another door. It was a huge vault door made out of thick silver. The guard standing by that door had on a thick pair of gloves and opened the door for us.Jackson, Logan, Liam and I all descended a staircase into the dark depths below. There was another door at the bottom that Jackson opened. I could hear his skin sizzle as he quickly opened the silver door with his bare hands. We stepped into a brightly lit room and I checked on Jackson’s hands, which he insisted were fine, so I looked around
“Ume, wake up!” The voice forcing its way into my head wasn’t Lasaya but it was familiar, and seemed so far away. “Focus on her voice, Ume.” This time it was Lasaya and she sounded right beside me. I nodded in my head to Lasaya and tried to follow the familiar voice back to the surface of my mind. How long had I been drowning in the darkness? “You’ve been asleep for like two weeks, get up.” A different but still familiar voice drew my attention and I followed it. I could feel Lasaya pushing me toward the voices outside. I couldn’t remember what happened. Why was it dark? Why have I been sleeping for two weeks? I missed Halloween? Lasaya gave me a strong push forward. “It will all come back to you when you wake up, just keep going, Ume.” I listened to Lasaya and pushed forward into the light. I didn’t feel scared, or in any pain, just curious and a little lost. When I finally made it to the light, I reached out and touched it with my hand, then I felt myself lying on my bed with t
I was curled up on Jackson’s lap. Neither of us said anything for a long time. It was just comforting sitting with him like this. He had his arms wrapped tightly around me and was resting his cheek on the top of my head. He was warm, and I felt a bit cold, so it added to my comfort level. After a bit, I shifted to look up at him, nudging my nose against his chin. “I missed Halloween.” I said in a small voice. He just looked down at me with a slight smile, then kissed the side of my forehead. I leaned into his kiss. “I wanted to cancel everything but your sisters insisted. Both of them said that you would be angry if I canceled”, he explained. It made me smile knowing that my sisters knew me so well. “Can you tell me everything that happened? I want to know every detail.” Jackson sighed and pushed his head into mine, nibbling a little around my neck and ear, causing me to flush a little. “Jackson!” He let out a sigh then pulled my body around to face him as he leaned back in the c
