Benjamin POV

Morning light filled the kitchen, that warm yellow that comes early and doesn't last, and the whole room smelled like pancakes.

Lucian sat at the table, swinging his legs under the chair the way he always did — four years old, legs too short to reach the floor, swinging them anyway.

"Daddy, is Mommy coming home?"

I heard footsteps on the stairs — Alice's footsteps, and he knew it before I did. His face went bright and he slid off the chair and ran for the sound, bare feet slapping

  • The Alpha's Greatest Regret   0245:Alice Got Him Back

LISA'S POVHours before I baited Drake into those woods, one message changed everything for me.I was standing under the trees watching the smoke rise over Blue Moon, expecting the usual update about another damaged wall or another injured warrior or another way Benjamin's life was getting wrecked. Instead the rogue holding the phone looked confused when he called my name.I turned around and brushed the ash off my sleeve. "What?"He held the phone out to me. "One of our guys intercepted a message that was leaving Shadow Moon."I took the phone from him. Most of the message didn't mean anything to me. It was just about patrol positions, injured warriors, and people moving between Shadow Moon and Blue Moon. Then one single line jumped out at me and stopped me cold.Protect Benjamin's son. Keep Lucian inside the eastern residence until the threat is over.I held the screen up so the rogue could see it. "Read that line out loud to me."He squinted at the phone. "Benjamin's son. Lucian."

  • The Alpha's Greatest Regret   0244: Blood And Wolfbane

DRAKE'S POVI knew Lisa was trying to lure one of us out the minute her rogues stopped moving like a pack. For two hours our patrols had chased scattered hits along the northern edge of Blue Moon, and every report sounded different. One rogue hit a supply truck, another knocked down a fence, and a third vanished before our warriors even got there. Then Callum brought Benjamin the one detail that mattered: Lisa's scent was nowhere near any of them."She split off on her own," I said, leaning over the map spread across the hood of the truck.Benjamin stood across from me with both hands braced on the metal, looking at the marked spots. "She wants somebody following her.""Yeah, and I think I know who."He looked up. "Me?""No." I tapped the map. "Me. I helped prove what she did, so if she's baiting somebody, it's me."Benjamin straightened up. "Absolutely not.""I didn't say I was going alone."He studied me for a few long seconds. "Callum goes with you.""If she sees a full team, she

ALICE'S POVI knew something was wrong the second Benjamin's name showed up on my phone that night.I was in the small room next to the kitchen sorting ingredients for tomorrow breakfast when the screen lit up, so I wiped my hands on a towel and grabbed the phone on the first ring."Benjamin?"His breathing came through the speaker, steady but heavier than usual. "Blue Moon got hit again."I stopped what I was doing. "How bad is it?""Bad enough that I need to stay here.""Are you hurt?" I asked, twisting the towel tight around my fingers."No. A few of the warriors are. We caught six of the rogues."Relief hit me first, then fear came right after it."What about Lisa?""She's still out there. We haven't caught her." He lowered his voice. "Alice, I don't want Lucian worrying about this."A floorboard creaked behind me and I turned around.Lucian was standing in the doorway. He wasn't supposed to hear any of that, but Lucian always heard everything the second adults started talking qui

  • The Alpha's Greatest Regret   0242: She's Waiting For You

BENJAMIN’S POVThe old Alpha residence was empty when Callum and I pulled up, so we turned the truck around right away and drove straight back.I was walking the wrecked road behind the storage sheds when a howl came out of the trees past the eastern wall, and a second later the alarm went off loud enough to stop every conversation in the courtyard."Rogues," Callum said, and he started running.I was already moving before he finished talking. The eastern barricade shook hard as three of them crashed out of the undergrowth, and more shapes came pouring in fast and low behind them."Positions!" I shouted.Warriors scattered across the courtyard while families got rushed into the main hall and the injured were carried in after them. An old man tried to fight with his walking stick until a warrior picked him up and ran him through the doors."Keep them moving," I said, pointing at the hall. "Nobody stays outside unless they're fighting."A woman pulling a little girl by the hand looked b

  • The Alpha's Greatest Regret   0241: Burn It Again

LISA'S POVThe old Alpha residence should have been dark and empty, but I moved in low through the trees anyway with the rogues spreading out behind me. Benjamin had walked away from this place years ago and left the garden to grow wild. With no lights showing through a single curtain, I expected nothing but a dead house.Instead, people were working all over it. I stopped so hard that Eric nearly crashed into my back."What is it?" he whispered.I threw my arm out to keep him quiet and stared at the house. Two warriors were already rebuilding the barricade along the east side, nailing fresh timber over every section my people had smashed. Another pair stood farther down the road with weapons ready, watching the tree line. My teeth clenched. They were putting it all back together like nothing had happened.A woman hauled an armload of blankets from one damaged house to the next. Two men fitted a new frame into a shattered window. Near the road a gray-haired warrior handed a little boy

  • The Alpha's Greatest Regret   0240:Old House Trap

BENJAMIN'S POVThe second I crossed into Blue Moon territory the smell of blood hit me hard. Fresh blood from dozens of people. Smoke rode right behind it, thick enough to scrape the back of my throat raw. I eased off the gas before the main compound because I already knew Callum's report had gone soft on me.The gates hung crooked off their hinges. One guardhouse was ripped wide open. The windows of the second one lay smashed across the concrete and glittered in the morning sun. Two patrol cars sat nosed in at the entrance with their windshields caved in and every tire slashed.I parked, got out, and stood there for one second just looking. Then I moved."Callum, get every warrior we can spare to the western entrance," I said as I crossed the courtyard. "Nobody leaves the compound alone. Two teams in the woods, two on the road."Callum fell into step beside me, his shirt stained with blood that wasn't his. He pulled out his phone. "I'll handle it."We passed the first row of houses.

  • The Alpha's Greatest Regret   0006: He is a Mistake

ALICE’S POVI should have taken Lucian home.I should have picked him up, carried him away from this festival of false joy and false hope, and tucked him into bed with a story, a kiss, and a promise that tomorrow would be better. But I didn’t. Because Lucian wanted to see the fireworks. And I could

ALICE’S POVThe Blue Moon Festival was Lucian’s idea of heaven and my four-year plan of endurance. He’d been talking about it for weeks—the lanterns, the fireworks, the honey cakes from the booth near the stage. When he’d asked, he’d pressed both hands together like he was praying, eyes wide, and I

Alice’s POV"What?""Is this your new plan? To trap me again?" Benjamin’s voice dripped with contempt. "Did you run out of tricks, Alice? Is faking our son’s terminal illness really the best you could come up with?"I couldn’t breathe. The hospital hallway seemed to close in around me, the walls pr

  • The Alpha's Greatest Regret   0001:One Month Left

ALICE’S POVI hadn't slept. I'd counted his breaths instead. It had been four hours since Lucian collapsed at breakfast. Four hours since I’d screamed loud enough to wake every wolf on our floor of the western wing. Now the monitors did the counting for me — soft, steady, mechanical as my son slept
