That night, sleep just wouldn’t come. My mind wouldn’t stop racing, flashes of my mother’s face, her silver hair, the whisper I couldn’t quite make out. The dinner with Liam had been beautiful, but even his warmth couldn’t quiet the storm inside me.

“You’re overthinking again,” Nyx’s voice echoed softly in my mind.

“I can’t help it,” I whispered, glancing out the window at the moon. “What if the Crescent Veil pack knows something about her… something Liam or my father hid?”

“Then we’ll find out,” Nyx replied firmly. “You’re not that scared little girl anymore.”

I exhaled, grabbed my jacket, and decided to go for a run. The cold air hit my face as soon as I stepped outside, sharp, fresh, grounding. My wolf stirred eagerly beneath my skin.

“Ready?”

“Always.”

We took off into the woods, the world blurring into streaks of silver and black. Running with Nyx always helped. It made me feel whole,wild, free, and untouchable. But tonight, even the wind couldn’t clear the weight in my chest.
