Gosh, our mate is hot, my wolf Axel growled in my head as soon as Maya stepped onto the ice in her new uniform.

I couldn’t even argue. She looked strong and quick, her dark hair tucked under her helmet, eyes sharp and focused.

Don’t just stare, Axel pushed. Go claim her.

“Not now,” I muttered under my breath.

Coward, he snapped, then went silent, shutting me out.

I exhaled, jaw tight. He wasn’t wrong. Our mate was right there, gliding across the ice like she owned it, and I was still tangled up with Lia. I’d promised her… and I didn’t even know why I’d let it get this far.

Zack skated past and elbowed me lightly. “Dude, you good? You’re zoning out.”

“Yeah,” I said quickly, eyes still on Maya. “Just… watching her play.”

“She’s impressive,” Zack admitted, following my gaze. “Small but fierce. James is already annoyed.”

I couldn’t help the faint smile that tugged at my lips. “Good. He deserves it.”

Across the rink, Maya darted around James with a sudden burst of speed,
