The burger melted in my mouth juicy, smoky, perfect. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d gone out just for fun. After class we had a long break, and Lily had shown up all smiles.

“Come on, girls,” she’d said, linking arms with Fiona and Stella. “I’m kidnapping you for lunch. Ceremony prep can wait.”

“Ceremony?” I asked, licking a bit of sauce from my finger.

Lily’s eyes sparkled. “Big welcome party for new pack members. You have to come. It’s the event of the month.”

I barely had time to answer before they whisked me through a string of small restaurants, finally settling at a cozy corner café. The chatter and warm food wrapped around me like a blanket.

Afterward, Lily clapped her hands. “Okay, next stop Victoria’s Secret. You need some proper clothes.”

I nearly choked on my soda. “Wait, what? I

don’t need”

“Yes, you do,” Fiona cut in, grinning. “Dorm wardrobe upgrade!”

“I’m serious, guys, I don’t have to”

Stella nudged me with her shoulder. “Don’t argue. It’s a sister thing now.”
