When I woke up, everything felt heavy — my eyelids, my chest, even the air around me. The first thing I saw was a bright light sneaking through the hospital curtains, and the faint scent of wolfsbane mixed with healing herbs.

For a moment, I didn’t remember what had happened. Then it came rushing back — the forest, the arrow, the blood… and the stranger who had carried me out.

I tried to sit up, wincing. My head throbbed, but the pain reminded me I was still alive.

The door opened softly. Roseline rushed in first, followed by William and Lily.

“Maya!” Roseline gasped, nearly tripping as she hurried to my side. “You scared us to death!”

William chuckled, though his eyes were worried. “I told you she’s too stubborn to die.”

Lily gave a teary laugh and squeezed my hand. “Don’t you ever do that again, okay?”

I managed a weak smile. “You guys make it sound like I planned to get shot.”

Roseline sniffed. “Still… we were so worried. Zack said a stranger brought you in.”
