ELIZA’S POV

I wandered aimlessly through the pack grounds, trying to calm my racing heart after that encounter with Alexander.

His scent still lingered in my nostrils, making it impossible to think clearly. I shook my head, trying to clear my mind and focus on what is actually important to me. Saving my pack.

"You're acting like a teenage pup with her first crush," my wolf teased, her tone light and playful. "We're a strong, independent Alpha female. We should be enjoying our freedom, not running away from an attractive male."

"I'm not running," I muttered, though my hasty retreat said otherwise.

"Oh? So what do you call that graceful sprint just now?" She laughed. "Face it, his Alpha aura affects us. Affects you. There's nothing wrong with that."

"It doesn't affect me. I just need to stay away from him for some time." I retorted, not liking what she was hinting at.

"We're single Eliza. We have no mate. Isn't it unfair that Derek has a new plaything and we are left to wander through t

ELIZA’S POVMy first curled around the head of my knife ready to be unsheathed as I ran to the middle of the battlefield. My heart, pounding like the war drum sounding some miles away.An arrow, almost immediately, flew over my head piercing into the throat of the man standing before me and I watched as he fell to ground knees first as blood gushed out from his throat.'Run Eliza. Run!' I turned my head to the direction of the voice but the primal and brutal snarls surrounding me prevented me from seeing who it was.'Eliza! By the goddess run!' It was Mom's voice. This time, I didn't need any confirmation to know it was her.But what was Mom doing at the battlefield?I quickly turned to the direction of her voice and saw her standing in the middle of fallen warriors, her dress soaked in blood; blood so thick I could taste the coppery thang in my throat.'Mom, run!' I yelled but my shouts barely escaped my throat. Two men from her left and right were approaching her fast and she was un

ELIZA’S POVI took a deep breath, willing myself back to saneness. I had a reason for coming back to Alexander and his sexy, gorgeous, manly body was not going to make me loose my plot.“You know, you didn't actually tell me why you are out here by this time.”He shrugged, doing his last button. “I didn't think you wanted to hear it. You skipped out before I could assimilate the response you gave to me.”He had a small smirk on his face as he looked at me from the corner of his eyes. I chuckled, Alexander was a lot of things but being bold topped the list.“The river calms me.” Alexander said in response to my question. “Large body of water in general. Swimming in it, listening to their little trickle as they flow, observing the ripples and the little ‘thump’ when you throw a rock in it.”I looked up at him. "That's-" Who knew the charismatic prince had an element of surprise

ELIZA’S POV“This place is a shadow of its former self.” I looked over my shoulder with raised brows and at Alexander who was wiping imaginary cobwebs from his face.“You’ve been here before?” We were in my house looking for a space to reenact the events of the war.“I am the Prince of the Lycan Kingdom,” he replied with a smug smile and I shook my head.I stood in the middle of the room with my hands on my waist as I took in the room, indeed, it was a shadow of its former self. Before the war, in the middle of the room - the war room - stood a tall, round table made from the finest oak tree. It had been passed down for generations, and it was where my father and his fathers before him strategized and discussed the best way to help the pack. Now, in the middle of the room stood me, and the table, scattered in parts all over the room.I turned in a slow circle taking in the room where I h

ELIZA’S POVMy fists balled by my sides as we walked up to the dining table. What was I thinking? What were we thinking?Alexander may have proposed to me a few days back but that wasn't enough reason to get... unprofessional with him.My thoughts were spiraling and with the ensuing silence between us, I was certain the thudding of my heart could be heard a million miles away.I peeked over my shoulder and our eyes met. He opened his mouth to speak but as if deciding against it, he chewed on his teeth and looked straight ahead.'Me too, Alexander. Me too.’ I muttered to myself not knowing how to express or assemble the thoughts in my head.It wasn't often that Alexander was at a loss for words but last night's events had clearly thrown him off balance. As we neared the dining room, the familiar chatter in the room enveloped me, throwing me back to the memories I have missed; me, my parents, my brother, my father's beta, my mom's right hand woman and a few other warriors from our pack.

ELIZA’S POV“Don't wait for an offense to have a defense. Be calculative, learn to study your opponent.”Alexander's voice rang out in the training grounds. The sounds of swords clicking against each other guided me closer to the training grounds. It was alive just as it used to be, the Gammas - our warriors in view - gathered around Alexander and the lady he was sparring with, watching and observing while the older warriors were in groups, rehashing their knowledge amongst themselves.“Now attack me.” I folded my arms under my breasts and watched Alexander spar with the lady. His movements were calculated. Precise.I guess this preacher did practice what he preached. The lady lunged forward but Alexander moved to the side and in a swift move, he snatched her sword off her hand and pinned both swords to her neck.“What should I do with your head, Cassie? Drink from it or put it on a spike?”The girl between the swords chuckled but I heard the fear in her voice.“Learn to read your oppo

ELIZA’S POVMy wolf began moving restlessly giving me this unsettling feeling in the pit of my stomach. Something was wrong, my wolf could sense it, I could too.I kept my head up, following Maggie before concluding on anything. If something was wrong, it was only a matter of time till we figured it out.My wolf began bristling with anger as we got into the hall. I gritted my teeth trying to keep the anger surging inside of me in check.Maggie hadn't done justice to the explanation she gave, heck! She hadn't explained anything at all.A long crack ran from the base of the wall all the way to the middle, the impact so deep it could collapse the building.I looked at Alexander and found him as puzzled as I was. “What did you say happened again?” I asked Maggie. She adjusted her jotter pad in her hands as she darted her eyes between me and Alexander. “As I said, I noticed the crack and began monitoring it only to find out it grew bigger. Today, I was doing a general inspection around the

DEREK’S POVI ran my fingers through my hair, staring down at the papers before me, the papers - I must admit - have seen better days.I have spent long hours in my office going through every file and document, searching and checking to see if I could find some money lying around, maybe a missed calculation or something that could bring up any money. The $3 million compensation Eliza demanded was an unbearable burden that has kept me up at night coupled with the fact that the financial auditor wouldn’t let me rest till the money was paid to the last penny.I stood up from my seat and began pacing, paper in hand, rereading what I was certain I'd read more than three times. Not finding anything, I tossed the paper on the table, walked to my makeshift bar and poured myself a glass of whiskey. The door opened as I drowned my drink in one go as my beta walked in. “There are some men here to see you, Alpha.” Sighing, I went to take back my seat as three men walked in.“Long live your majest

ELIZA’S POVIt's been three days since the incident in the training halls, since every activity in the pack came to a sudden halt.Over the last few days, Maggie, the engineer and I -and Alexander - have been testing and examining the building materials and have come to the conclusion that they were all weak and expired materials.Maggie and the engineer who I came to learn his name was Ronald, insisted that the conductor was deceitful and had supplied us with fake materials but I couldn't shake off the feeling that it wasn't done single-handedly. I knew someone was backing him but I wasn't certain who it was."This is the receipt for our wood purchase, that cost us about two hundred thousand," Lily said, sliding a receipt to me. We were in my office going over our bank affairs to check how bad we were damaged and how much damage control we could make."This one here is the receipt for steel and concrete. We paid for them at the same time and that cost us six hundred and fifty thousan

ELIZA’S POVAlyosha’s message had been short but enough to send a chill down my spine.Alexander and I returned to his private study in silence. As soon as we stepped inside, he shut the door behind us, locking out the noise of the palace.“We both know your father won’t change his mind,” I said, forcing myself to speak first. The words were painful but they were the truth. I saw it in Alexander’s eyes—he looked frustrated. He sighed and ran his hand through his hair.“I know.” He said “I can’t believe he thinks you’re a spy. How can he say that?”I paced the room. My mind raced with different possibilities.“There’s no time to dwell on that. If he’s not going to listen to us then we need another way. Because if those reinforcements from the Western Plains arrive before we’re ready, there won’t be a battle. There will be

I missed her terribly. My wolf kept clawing at me, calling out for his mate.He demanded that I go back, that I claim her, that I hold her in my arms again. But I couldn't.Not yet. Duty came first, as it always had, as it always would. The grand hall was filled with nobles, generals, and high-ranking officials discussing preparations for the upcoming ceremony. The packs that had distinguished themselves in the border wars were to be honored, and as the heir to the throne, it was my responsibility to ensure every detail was executed flawlessly. But my mind drifted, betraying me.I couldn’t help but think about her.She was always in my mind.I thought of her beautiful eyes, the way she had looked at me, the way she felt in my arms, her lovely scent.Goddess, I was running mad.I coul

ELIZA’S POVI sat at my desk, recalling the messenger’s words. The news was unsettling—dangerous even—and my instincts were already on high alert.“Where is this information from?” I asked him.“It’s from Alyosha, my lady. She sent it directly from the border.”Alyosha. The name hit me.I dismissed the messenger with a wave.Alyosha was a lone she-wolf I had met during my training days.Alyosha was wild, untamed, a free spirit who had no interest in the constraints of pack life. She had always vowed to explore the continent on her own terms, and it was that very defiance that allowed her to gather critical intelligence. As much as I admired her independence, I had always known that trusting her would not be totally good.I couldn’t wait any longer. I grabbed my phone, dialed her number and pressed it to my ear.“Come on, Alyosha,” I muttered to myself, “pick up.”When she finally answered, I sighed in relief.“Eliza,” she said “To what do I owe the pleasure?”“Alyosha,” I said “I rece

ELIZA’S POVThe moment I stepped into the Derek and Maya’s banquet hall, all eyes turned to me.I could hear the gasps in the crowd and their whispers too. I could feel their stares, their curiosity, their judgment, but most of all, their admiration.I was dressed in a long white dress that hugged my curves in all the right places, I walked with slow steps. That way, every eye could see me.I wanted them to see me.The slit on the side of my dress revealed just enough of my leg to tease but not enough to cause a scandal.I paired my outfit with gold heels and just the right amount of make up to make heads turn.White was meant for the bride, but today, I had chosen it for myself. It was my silent statement—I was not a woman scorned. I was not someone that would be pushed aside. The wedding was a disaster.Instead of the elegance expected of an Alpha’s wedding, the grand hall was filled with the chaos of rowdy warrior wolves. They drank expensive liquor in the most irritating manner. It was a note from Alexander. My Eliza,You looked so beautiful this morning and it hurt me to leave you but duty calls me to the capital. Know that every moment with you has been lovely, a temptation I cannot resist. I am falling for you, deeper than I ever thought possible. Until I return, think of me, as I will think of you. She was practically begging me to surrender to the magnetic pull between us."Eliza," he said softly, "I can't pretend anymore. ELIZA’S POVWithin three days, all the chaos caused by Maya had been resolved, and with Lily's help, Alexander's farewell banquet had come together perfectly. The air felt lighter now that everything was back in order, but there was still an ache in my chest.I’d been so caught up in organizing and fixing things that I’d barely had time to think about what tonight meant.Alexander was leaving. That thought made me sad.As evening approached, I heard a knock on my door. Before I could respond, a group of maids filed in, giggling and chattering amongst themselves.“Luna, we’re here to help you get ready,” one of them announced cheerfully.I blinked at them, startled. “You… you don’t have to. I can manage on my own.”“Nonsense!” another maid said, waving her hands as they guided me to sit in front of my vanity. “Tonight is special. You need to look your best, your grace.”I didn’t argue further. Part of me was curious about what they had planned. As I sat there, I watched their reflectio
