I still stood there for a few seconds after he said that.

“Good.”

That was all. Just good. No reassurance. No explanation. Just that one simple word. And it settled heavily in my chest.

He turned away from me as the conversation had already ended and walked toward the door. For a brief moment, I thought he was going to say something else… something more. But he didn’t.

Reaching the door, he paused slightly.

Without turning back, he said, “Isabella, prepare yourself. Everything won’t be easy.”

  • The Billionaire’s Forced Wife   The line that shift

Adrian followed my glance.“Lucas doesn’t like this,” I said.“Then perhaps he should have spoken,” Adrian replied.“That is not how Lucas works.”“No,” I said quietly. “I’m starting to notice.”Adrian’s expression changed slightly.“You should be very careful with him.”I almost laughed. “That sentence has become popular.”“No, I mean it differently.”“Okay… and how do you mean it?”He leaned closer, still proper enough for appearances.“Lucas only protects things after they matter to him.”The words hit harder than they should have. Before I could respond, the music shifted, and he spun me gently. When we stopped, I saw Mira standing nearby, champagne in hand, smiling like someone enjoying private revenge.I smiled back just enough to play along. Adrian returned me to the edge of the floor.“Thank you,” he said.“Thank me, for what?” I asked.“For proving something better.”“I dislike mysteries,” I said.“Isabella, you are already married into the wrong family.”Then he stepped away

  • The Billionaire’s Forced Wife   Smile and shadows

Mr. Alexander smiled again, like everything was going well. That smile stayed in the room like smoke after fire.No one moved immediately. Also, no one spoke. The heavy silence between us had become its own language in this family one made of warnings, old grudges, and things never explained. Everything remained complicated.I kept my posture calm, though every instinct inside me had sharpened.Lucas still stood beside me, only half a step closer than before, but I felt the change. It was subtle, almost invisible.Protective. Or possessive. With him, those two things could easily look the same.Mr. Alexander calmly rested both of his hands on the top of his cane and looked around the room like a king reviewing pieces on a board.“Well,” he said at last, “must everyone stand there looking wounded by history? Are you people new to the history?”William laughed first, almost mockingly. “Grandfather, some of us are enjoying history.”Immediately, Mira shot him an irritated glance. “You en

  • The Billionaire’s Forced Wife   The Dance of appearance

Mr. Alexander was still smiling. That alone was enough to disturb my peace.Because a man like Mr. Alexander did not smile without reason, he smiled when he noticed something huge that others had missed. He smiled when the pieces moved exactly where he wanted them. He smiled when the game began. And right then, standing in the middle of the ballroom with Alexander Lucas’s hand firm against my waist, I had the sharp feeling that I had just stepped into one unusual game. The music flowed softly around us, elegant and controlled, but my heartbeat refused to match it. Lucas guided me across the polished floor with effortless precision, as if he had done this a thousand times before. I couldn’t hesitate. I played along.“Isabella, you look distracted,” he said quietly.“Yes. I’m thinking,” I replied.“That is very dangerous during a dance in public.”I looked up at him rudely and said, “Then stop giving me reasons to think.”A faint shadow of amusement crossed his face, but it disappeared

  • The Billionaire’s Forced Wife   The eyes at the Gala

My mind was still in chaos as I walked through the hallway. Outside felt colder than before. Every sound seemed sharper than normal. The quiet footsteps of the staff. The distant ticking of a clock. Even the soft movement of curtains near the windows felt deliberate.I slowly walked back toward the bedroom, replaying every one of Mr. Alexander’s words in my mind.Watch everyone carefully.Especially those who appear too friendly.Watch Lucas most of all.But the last statement unsettled me the most. What exactly did he mean?Complicated… or did Alexander Lucas have plans involving me that even he had not accepted yet?Or was his grandfather simply playing dangerous mind games?I began asking myself unusual questions, because with that man, nothing was ever clear. When I entered the bedroom, everything looked different. Lucas was standing by the window, one hand in his pocket, speaking quietly on the phone. The moment I stepped inside, he looked up and our eyes met. Immediately, he end

  • The Billionaire’s Forced Wife   Balance and danger

Later that afternoon, I was in the bedroom reviewing dresses laid out by the housekeeper when the door suddenly opened.Alexander Lucas entered without warning, removing his watch.“You’re back early,” I said carefully.“I canceled two meetings,” he replied bluntly. That alone sounded unnatural. He noticed the dresses on the bed, but he didn’t look surprised.“Good. I heard about the Friday gala.”I crossed my arms slightly.“I’m glad my public presentation pleases you.”His eyes moved to me.“You’re still offended.”“I’m still aware.”He loosened his cuffs.“Choose the black one.”I looked at the dresses.“There are three black ones.”“The second.”I frowned.“You really think you control everything.”“No,” he said calmly. “Only what affects me and you.”I stepped closer.“And I affect you?”His gaze held mine.“Yes.”The directness of the answer threw me off balance. Before I could respond, he moved past me toward the wardrobe.“I need you prepared.”“For the gala?”“No. For the fam

  • The Billionaire’s Forced Wife   The watching eyes

The silence that remained after Alexander Lucas spoke stayed in the room long after the words ended.“Then I’ll deal with it.”He had said it calmly, like he wasn’t bothered by what was happening, but something about it disturbed me more than if he had raised his voice.Because men like Alexander Lucas did not make empty statements, they made decisions with power and control.I lay still on my side of the bed, staring into the darkness. The city lights beyond the curtains cast faint shadows across the ceiling. Beside me, he had already gone quiet again, as if nothing meaningful had happened. So far, it looked like I was the only one bothered by this contract marriage.I continued staring. Sleep became impossible. This deadly mansion had totally changed everything about me.The way I thought. The way I spoke. The way I watched people before trusting them.Even now, I was lying beside a man who was technically my husband, legally my husband, publicly my husband…Yet privately, he remain
