Chapter 63

At midnight, Bryan woke up in a cold sweat. His stomach was aching and he felt nauseous. He tried to call for his parents, but his voice was too weak.

"Mommy," he whispered. "Daddy."

But there was no answer. His parents were asleep in their room down the hall.

Bryan tried to get out of bed, but he was too weak. He lay back down and closed his eyes. He tried to think of what to do.

He remembered that Mrs. Maria, the housekeeper, had given him a glass of milk before he went to bed. He wondered if the milk had made him sick.

He tried to call for Mrs. Maria, but his voice was still too weak.

Bryan started to panic. He was all alone and he didn't know what to do.

He closed his eyes and tried to calm down. He took a few deep breaths and tried to think clearly.
