Chapter 1

The office smelled faintly of coffee, champagne, and the faint tang of electronics—wires, warm laptops, and overworked servers. Luke leaned back in his chair, spinning slowly, letting his eyes sweep the room. Monitors glowed with the soft hum of code, whiteboards crowded with the chaos of their genius, and yet, for the first time in years, it all felt… theirs.

He held a bottle of champagne, the golden liquid sparkling under the fluorescent lights. “Well,” he said, voice smooth and confident, “we did it. The app is live. Launch went without a hitch. We are officially… almost billionaires.”

Dru, perched on the corner of the desk, crossed his arms and smirked. “Almost? Luke, we’re already filthy rich. Investors are practically begging for the next project. We’re not in the sandbox anymore—we built the castle.”

Kyle stretched, letting his designer jacket fall over his shoulders like a cape. “Filthy rich is cute,” he said. “We’re in a league of our own. And tonight? Tonight we celebrate properly. Club, drinks… maybe some distractions.” He smirked, letting his gaze wander toward the city skyline. “Nothing too crazy… or maybe exactly that.”

Duke bounced on the balls of his feet, unable to stay still. “Yes! Finally! A reason to leave behind whiteboards, spreadsheets, and the endless hum of our own genius! I call dibs on making the first toast!”

Luke groaned, rolling his eyes, though a grin tugged at the corner of his lips. “Fine. But we keep it classy… well, as classy as four men who survived on instant noodles for three years can manage.”

The four erupted into laughter. Dru shook his head, amusement lacing his features as Luke popped the champagne cork. The cork shot out with a satisfying pop, fizzing champagne across the edge of the desk. Duke lunged to catch the nearest glass, spilling half onto the floor.

“Seriously?” Luke groaned, wiping champagne from his notes. “We’ve literally just finished an app launch, and you’re turning my office into a war zone?”

“You’re welcome,” Duke said, proudly surveying the mess. “I call it abstract celebration art.”

Kyle laughed, shaking his head. “This is just the warm-up. Tonight, boys, we hit the club. Drinks, music, women… and maybe some payback.” He cast a mischievous look at Dru and Luke.

Luke raised an eyebrow. “Payback?”

Dru tilted his head, smirking. “You mean that humiliation from a few years back? The club launch party? The one where some waitresses thought we were… a joke?”

Kyle laughed darkly. “Oh yes. That night. And tonight, we have the means to make them regret ever judging us.”

Luke’s grin widened dangerously. “Revenge tastes better when paired with champagne, yachts, and credit cards. Let’s make this interesting. We celebrate success… and maybe show them just how far we’ve come.”

Duke raised his glass. “To the launch… and to payback!”

“All right,” Luke said, clinking glasses with the others. “To success.”

The sound of crystal meeting crystal echoed across the office, carrying the thrill of triumph and the faint glimmer of mischief.

As the champagne flowed, the four friends relaxed into their own personalities.

Luke scanned the skyline, a quiet satisfaction in his chest. He remembered the night years ago—the laughter, the whispers, the pointed glances as the women at that club dismissed them because they were poor, awkward, and invisible. He had never forgotten a single detail, and tonight, the memory was sweet fuel for his confidence.

Dru, always quiet, tapped a finger against the desk, thinking about how far they’d come. “From broke nerds to billionaires,” he murmured. “Not bad for a team nobody believed in.”

Kyle flopped into a chair, twirling his jacket around his fingers. “And the best part? They have no idea we exist now. Tonight, we can play the game our way.”

Duke leaned back, laughter dancing in his eyes. “Oh, I love games. Especially when I’m guaranteed to win.”

Luke smirked, voice low, a dangerous undertone threading through it. “Tonight isn’t just about fun. It’s about balance. Karma. And maybe, just maybe… showing a few people what happens when you underestimate us.”

Dru’s eyes flickered. “Just don’t let revenge ruin the fun. That’s the only rule.”

Luke nodded. “Fun first. Revenge second.”

By the time they were ready to leave, the energy in the office had shifted. The air buzzed with the excitement of four men stepping out of the humdrum world of coding and into a night filled with neon lights, music, and the unknown.

Luke adjusted his jacket and straightened his tie, glancing at his friends. “Tonight… we step into the world we’ve earned. And we make sure the people who thought we were nothing remember exactly who we became.”

Kyle grinned. “Let’s see how surprised they get.”

Duke’s grin was wide and mischievous. “Surprise? Oh, they’re in for more than that.”

Dru shook his head, letting a small smirk form on his lips. “Just remember—play the long game. Tonight’s fun, but the real game… that’s later.”

Luke gave a small nod of approval. “Exactly. Tonight is just the beginning.”

The city lights gleamed as the four men exited the office. The streets stretched out ahead, full of possibility and adventure. Laughter spilled into the night, mixing with the faint hum of traffic and the distant thump of bass from a nearby club.

Unseen by them, three women were preparing the club for the night: Sophia, Lila, and Tess. The soft thump of music, the clinking of glasses, and the occasional laughter from patrons carried through the air as they arranged tables, polished counters, and readied themselves for the evening rush.

Sophia wiped her hands on her apron, glancing toward the entrance as a sleek black car rolled up. Lila whispered, “Who’s that? Some rich guys?”

Tess rolled her eyes. “Great… more entitled jerks thinking they own the place.”

The car door opened. One by one, four men stepped out—tall, confident, impeccably dressed. They moved as if the world bent to their command, their presence commanding attention without a word.

The waitresses barely recognized them as anything other than confident strangers. And they had no idea… these were the same men from years ago. The same men who were laughed at. The same men who had vowed, silently, that one day… they would return.

And tonight… they had.

The four men walked into the club, their laughter mingling with the music, unaware that the night would soon take them far beyond simple celebration. For tonight, fun and payback would collide, and none of them would leave unchanged.
