Chapter 4

The bass of the music thumped against the floor, vibrating through the club like a heartbeat, setting the tempo for a night full of anticipation. Lights swirled over the crowd in waves of purple and gold, cutting through the haze of smoke and chatter. Sophia adjusted her apron for the hundredth time, trying to ground herself in routine. But she couldn’t ignore the way her chest tightened every time one of the four men moved, laughed, or simply glanced in her direction.

“Okay, focus,” she whispered to herself. “They’re rich guys, they’re confident… probably full of themselves. Keep it professional.”

But professionalism was already a losing battle.

Across the table, Luke leaned back, fingers tapping lightly against his glass. He had been watching Sophia since the moment they walked in, and each glance, each reaction, was fuel for his plan. She’s sharp, cautious, independent… perfect. He allowed a slow smile to curve his lips, subtle, teasing, letting her catch it just long enough to feel the tension.

Duke was next, sidling toward the bar with a casual swagger that made heads turn. He lingered near Sophia, just close enough for her to sense his presence, but never too close to make her uncomfortable. Every brush of his shoulder was deliberate, every smirk calculated.

Tess noticed immediately. “Ugh, he’s doing that thing,” she muttered, leaning toward Lila. “You know… the walk-in-your-space-but-not-really walk.”

Lila laughed quietly, shaking her head. “It’s infuriating… and somehow magnetic. I don’t like it.”

Sophia tried to ignore Duke, but even as she focused on wiping glasses, she felt the subtle awareness of him behind her. She hated that her pulse picked up. She hated that the heat in her cheeks betrayed her. But the truth? She couldn’t look away.

Kyle was working his magic on Lila. He leaned casually on the bar, catching her hand as he handed her a glass, and she flinched just slightly. “You’re careful,” he teased lightly, “but not careful enough.”

“What are you talking about?” Lila asked, trying to maintain a professional tone while simultaneously feeling a strange flutter in her stomach.

Kyle’s grin was playful, almost wicked. “Oh, nothing. Just… noticing.”

Across the room, Dru noticed Tess leaning against the edge of the bar, watching him like she was cataloging every move. Perfect, he thought. She was independent, witty… the kind of woman who needed to be challenged. He raised an eyebrow slightly, making sure she caught it. Her eyes flicked up, wide for a second, before she quickly looked away.

Sophia finally caught herself staring. She shook her head, muttering under her breath. “Get it together. These guys… it’s just a game. Just rich boys playing games.”

But Luke had other ideas. He stood smoothly, walking toward the bar where Sophia was cleaning. The light from above glinted off his watch, the cuff of his suit perfectly tailored. He stopped a few feet from her, letting the air between them thrum with quiet tension.

“Busy night?” he asked, voice smooth, teasing.

“Yes,” she replied curtly. “Very.”

Luke’s grin was faint but deliberate. “I can see that. You’re good at what you do… but I’m curious do you always work this hard, or is it just for certain customers?”

Sophia blinked, caught off guard. “Excuse me?”

“Nothing,” he said lightly, his smirk softening into something more dangerous. “Just an observation.”

Her pulse raced. She shook her head, attempting to focus on the glasses in front of her. Observation? Dangerous? Charming? Ugh, ignore him.

Meanwhile, Duke and Kyle had moved in closer, testing boundaries in subtle ways. Duke leaned slightly as he spoke to Tess, letting his words float just enough to make her wonder what he was thinking. Tess, ever confident, tried to act unaffected, but her fingers tightened on the tray she carried.

Kyle teased Lila about her meticulous work at the bar. “Careful with those glasses… or I might just have to steal them.”

Lila rolled her eyes, laughing despite herself. “Steal them? I don’t think you could handle it.”

“Challenge accepted,” Kyle whispered under his breath.

The three girls exchanged quick, conspiratorial looks behind the bar.

Sophia muttered, “I don’t like them. There’s something… calculating. They aren’t just here to have fun. They’re playing some kind of game.”

Tess smirked. “Yeah, well, I’m playing too. Let’s see who wins.”

Lila shook her head, trying to sound practical, but her voice wavered. “Just… don’t get distracted. Focus on work. That’s all that matters.”

Luke noticed the way Sophia’s hands trembled slightly when she moved glasses. He leaned in subtly, lowering his voice. “You’re doing well… really well. I like that about you.”

Sophia felt her heart skip a beat. She looked up, eyes wide, and met his gaze. There was something in it confidence, danger, playfulness and she couldn’t look away.

Dru caught Tess’s reaction from across the room. She had gone pale for a fraction of a second, then tried to compose herself. Good, he thought. Just enough reaction to know the game is working.

Duke leaned slightly closer to Sophia again under the guise of “accidentally” brushing past her shoulder. “Oops… again?” he teased.

Sophia blushed furiously, straightening immediately. “I told you to watch it,” she said, trying to sound stern.

“Of course,” he replied softly, letting the words hang just long enough to make her heart race.

The night’s rhythm continued a dance of teasing, stolen glances, playful touches. Luke, Kyle, Dru, and Duke were careful, never overstepping, always testing boundaries, letting the women wonder, anticipate, and react.

Sophia’s mind was spinning. She hated how easily she could read their intentions, how unpredictable the night felt, how alive the tension made her feel. Tess whispered to Lila, “They’re dangerous… in more ways than one.”

“I hate it,” Lila muttered. “But I can’t look away either.”

Then Luke decided to raise the stakes. He leaned forward, voice soft but clear, just enough for Sophia to hear. “You know,” he said, “I think this might be the most interesting night I’ve had in a long time.”

Sophia froze. “I… I don’t know what you mean.”

He smirked, just slightly. “Oh, I think you do.”

Her pulse quickened, and she realized something dangerous was happening: she had been drawn in, whether she wanted to admit it or not.

Dru, Kyle, and Duke watched the reactions carefully, adjusting their approach, keeping the tension alive. Each word, each look, each subtle movement was another thread in the web of payback and attraction.

By the end of the night, the game had changed. What began as playful payback had shifted into something more an unspoken challenge, a quiet battle of wills, a dangerous pull that neither side could ignore.

Sophia, Lila, and Tess returned to their tasks, pretending calm, but the air around them vibrated with tension. And across the room, Luke and his friends exchanged subtle smirks, knowing the night had just begun.

The four billionaires had come back for payback but none of them realized just how much the night would would twist.

Attraction had entered the game and hearts and pride would collide.
